I just took pictures of the lines but am being held hostage at a mall (or two or thee) and while bargaining for my release it will take a few more items and may involve International action, or at least a trip to the international district in Seattle to obtain some Japanese white bread for the upcoming stuffing event. I might be able to take a shot with the blackberry and email it. The vacuum line goes out from the pump to the passenger side along the radiator, it's black with a white stripe. It terminates into a Y by the back latch of the airbox. Trace that path and check all connections. Followed the white stripe large bore vac line back from pump on right side to near air filter, dug under the rat's nest of lines and below it was a Y connector with one pipe missing, dug below the air box and came up with a large bore black line... voila - ze beast ees working!! I think I need to order a fresh set of all rubber connectors from MB and just start replacing them, the existing ones are not as flexible as they once were and that black line is really about one inch short to my liking, under a bit of tension when plugged back in, may work its way loose again so I am now forewarned. I had some done when I changed the timing chain (had an indie do that job), but it looks like he did not replace all of them. I owe you and the listers some beers. Next time we visit out your way will make a point of settling 8-) Edward ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 21 Nov 2010 22:59:06 +0000 From: dieseljohn@comcast.net Subject: Re: Fw: [db] Sudden onset of hard thump shift - all ranges Germans tend to make wires and vacuum lines to the precise length. Any movement and they disconnect. My TDI has a touchy vacuum line to the turbo, same deal, lose power, ck that cluster on the firewall. Speaking of the TDI, ordered the special socket to tear into the pump. Last ditch effort before swapping the IP. Miss driving the Jetta, but put new tires on the 300d and it's driving nicely again, straight. :). Speaking of new tires, we've been experiencing some strange white stuff failing from the sky. Cats haven't figured it out yet, they keep looking up and watching. Not sticking because it's not freezing, yet. Temps vary by elevation with the freezing level around 500 feet. Down around 16 feet right now and it's 37. It was 33 at the house this morning, we're at 350 feet. Suspect I'll drive the WJ to work tomorrow, predicted high is 31. And that would be below zero C, thinking of those afflicted with that aspect of metric. :).
