I also like being married... so I'm going to approach my wife this evening, I know what she's going to say (after 36 years I would hope so), she's going to say, sell your VW first... ok... the guy selling the benz isn't in a hurry, I'll float that by him as well and see if he'll hold the car for a couple of weeks for me. If this Jetta wagon did not have body damage and rebuilt title it would sell for $12k. I'll be lucky if I can get anything in the neighborhood of $7k for it... If you're interested, float me an offer... the 190D has a few issues... minor stuff for it's age, the original becker radio still works... there are some vacuum related issues, ignition switch is a little loose (terror!!!), the antenna needs to be replaced, but the cruise worked! the a/c likely needs to be recharged, still with r12, sunroof needs to be lubed, all the doors need lube or door checks, some of the windows resisted operation... all typical for a mercedes that hasn't seen a lot of recent use. driver's seat is a little wonky, broken, normal... trunk and underneath was clean, paint is oxidized and worn, just like on my '91. car felt good in traffic, quick enough off the line to avoid certain death cutting in front of traffic... steering felt great, brakes a little harder to push than my '91 or my jetta... turning radius was very nice... steering wheel felt good in my hands. I would say it performed as well or maybe even better than my '91 300D with the 2.5 Turbo... of course mine has suffered under biodiesel... :) pictures to follow... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 si vis pacem, para bellum http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 1 Feb 2011 16:46:27 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: Re: [db] road test 190D 2.5 - the TDI's story... emailed the guy... in the meantime, craigslist and forums... Bruce, Thanx. here you go: http://johnmeister.com/DIESELS/tdi/2003-VW-Jetta-TDI/ALL.html the bad and ugly: rebuilt title, body damage driver's side lower rocker panel, rear quarter - have two estimates, both were $2k to have fixed and repainted. the doors were replaced. original owner was side swiped, no glass was broken... damage does not extend past the rocker, drives and tracks perfectly straight. Looks horrible... the good: runs great, GOBS of power with that 11mm injection pump... GLS with heated leather seats, monsoon stereo, sunroof, cabin filter, radio controls on wheel everything works nearly perfectly. 136,800 miles around 38 mpg in town, seen 52 on the road. added a trailer hitch added airlift airbags in rear new windshield new tires new brakes upgraded to an 11mm pump - completely gone through by Diesel Injection Service in Portland rebuilt injectors - Northland Diesel new timing belt new water pump new glow plugs new wiring harness for glow plugs cleaned intake manifold amsoil gear lube in 5 speed transmission amsoil european 5w40 synthetic added prefilter to new filter, cleaned tank pickup not sure what to ask, they sell for $12k without body damage... just spent about $2,500 on the engine... guess I'll ask $7500 and consider serious offers. and that's about what I have in it... :) nice little car... too bad VWs have horrible automatics and timing belts... this thing would be perfect if it had an automatic... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 si vis pacem, para bellum http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Tue, 1 Feb 2011, Bruce Caruthers wrote: # # Give me info on the TDI and I'll post it on the NW Biodiesel list (originally a TDI club list, so...) # # -bkc # # On Tue Feb 01, 2011, John Meister wrote: # > # > definitely an improvement over the 2.2L # > # > I like the car... I took mine apart, cleaned it and re-lubed it with some white lithium and Viola!, it works! The 300D ran OK yesterday after working on the IP on Sunday, but was back to running crappy today. I ran a can of straight diesel purge in it today and changed both filters. It ran great afterwards, but it is starting to run bad again. The secondary filter was full of BLACK diesel to go along with the primary. I have pictures, I'll send to you @wagoneers.com. I think all my problems with the engine is particulate from the tank. I am pro'lly going to run another tank of bio-cide and change them again. All in all, it IS running better and idles smoother. pk - -----Original Message----- From: owner-diesel-benz@digest.net [mailto:owner-diesel-benz@digest.net] On Behalf Of john Sent: Tuesday, February 01, 2011 4:00 PM To: David Ashby; diesel-benz list Subject: [db] road test 190D 2.5 definitely an improvement over the 2.2L I like the car...
