John john at http://wagoneers.com - -----Original Message----- From: "Paul Kershner" Sender: owner-diesel-benz@digest.net Date: Tue, 1 Feb 2011 17:48:50 To: 'diesel-benz list' Subject: RE: [db] road test 190D 2.5 John, I bought an aftermarket electric antenna for the 300d, but it won't work because of the angle, the size of the hole, etc. If you get the 190, we can see if it will work. I took mine apart, cleaned it and re-lubed it with some white lithium and Viola!, it works! The 300D ran OK yesterday after working on the IP on Sunday, but was back to running crappy today. I ran a can of straight diesel purge in it today and changed both filters. It ran great afterwards, but it is starting to run bad again. The secondary filter was full of BLACK diesel to go along with the primary. I have pictures, I'll send to you @wagoneers.com. I think all my problems with the engine is particulate from the tank. I am pro'lly going to run another tank of bio-cide and change them again. All in all, it IS running better and idles smoother. pk - -----Original Message----- From: owner-diesel-benz@digest.net [mailto:owner-diesel-benz@digest.net] On Behalf Of john Sent: Tuesday, February 01, 2011 4:00 PM To: David Ashby; diesel-benz list Subject: [db] road test 190D 2.5 definitely an improvement over the 2.2L I like the car... If this Jetta wagon did not have body damage and rebuilt title it would sell for $12k. I'll be lucky if I can get anything in the neighborhood of $7k for it... If you're interested, float me an offer... the 190D has a few issues... minor stuff for it's age, the original becker radio still works... there are some vacuum related issues, ignition switch is a little loose (terror!!!), the antenna needs to be replaced, but the cruise worked! the a/c likely needs to be recharged, still with r12, sunroof needs to be lubed, all the doors need lube or door checks, some of the windows resisted operation... all typical for a mercedes that hasn't seen a lot of recent use. driver's seat is a little wonky, broken, normal... trunk and underneath was clean, paint is oxidized and worn, just like on my '91. car felt good in traffic, quick enough off the line to avoid certain death cutting in front of traffic... steering felt great, brakes a little harder to push than my '91 or my jetta... turning radius was very nice... steering wheel felt good in my hands. I would say it performed as well or maybe even better than my '91 300D with the 2.5 Turbo... of course mine has suffered under biodiesel... :) pictures to follow... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 si vis pacem, para bellum http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 01 Feb 2011 21:22:04 -0800 From: john Subject: Re: [db] W201 2.5 D NA there were some bumps in the back, it might have been hit, not too worried about it, the lid closed fine, doors seemed to line up... there was an issue with the vacuum pump... the brakes didn't feel quite right, door locks didn't behave right and the car didn't shut right off... when the guy found out I had a rebuilt title and the body damage he wasn't optimistic about selling it through his dealership... the guy was pretty decent about it, he works at a dealership and this is more of a hobby with him... he drove up about 50 miles to show me the car... got to appreciate that. so I'm on my own, which is where I was anyway, trading in a car is almost as stupid as buying a brand new car... you only trade in if it's in such horrible shape that you'd not get anything anyway... at that point I'd probably part it out... but then again, as we all know, I'm not normal. buying new is something I've never done... wanted to, but never could bring myself to make those kind of payments... maybe I will, and it'll be ordered the way I want it... and I'll keep it... but it's funny, because I've got friends that spent a lot of money on some really fine automobiles and kept 'em for a while, then sold them for more than I could afford even as a used car, and they still took a major bath... a doctor friend of mine had a brand new range rover, really nice rig... forgot what he paid, 60, 80? I don't know, it was a lot... I think he finally sold it for 13 or so, and while he had it was paying 3 to 4k a year to license it before we finally got our $30 tabs... (which still cost $70). ;) he's driving a used ford pickup now and loving it... anyway, there is another '86 190D that doesn't look too bad, but needs more work for $700... seen a couple others, so if this one gets away I'm not going to be too upset... at least I know they're out there and reasonable in price... that 2.5 makes a big difference in power. john On 2/1/2011 6:29 PM, wmpless@iprimus.ca wrote: > ?John, > in the picture of the spare tire well there is a dent in the vertial wall. > Wondering was bumped in the rear. The rear doors did not open easily. I noticed some junkyard markings on the rear axle and a few noted the spare well had a buckle. I don't think the ac is working, but it's all their and fans and vents work. Door locks don't. Sunroof is supposed to be slow opening, I think that might even be related to the rear end.
