Friends and family snicker at me whenever they find out that I read the whole manual when I get a new (to me) car. That confirms that we're a bit of an odd group. The more I drive and hear of others' driving, the more convinced I am that the U.S. should require a MUCH more intensive driver training course. Any of you with kids that are just reaching driving age or have recently reached it, send them to a real driving school. Yes, they'll learn how to hoon the family truckster, but they'll also learn how to avoid serious ugliness. Then teach them to drive a manual. For bonus points, teach them to start a car with a manual choke. ;-) Alec On Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 3:26 PM, john wrote: > actually it should be easy to reach... > > as long as it doesn't lock the steering wheel... > > I've heard it said they don't tell people to turn their cars off in a runaway situation because > they're afraid the idiots in their panic will turn the key completely off and pull it and lock > the steering wheel... makes sense, many, many people are not capable of rational thought > when in the panic mode...
