I've had a couple... the 123's seem to floaty to me... and the 126 bloated as bruce said... didn't feel as good as a 123... the 201 is fine, but after driving two of them again, a bit crowded, and of course the differences in quality vs. the 124. I think among those that are looking at used mercedes, the 124 appears to be the champion... we know that a 210 is not good... unless you like working on cars... I think the next round of decent mercedes Diesels picks up in 2003 or so? model number? I may do some research on the '95 124 to see what the parts guys have to say about them. john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 si vis pacem, para bellum http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Tue, 1 Mar 2011, Bruce Caruthers wrote: # I slightly prefer the handling and fit and finish of my old 115, although the 124 has a more luxury interior (and, of course, more power, although my 115 does better at the low end, due to its greater bore stroke). # # Never cottoned to the styling (outside or inside) of the 123, and the 126 just feels too bloated to me. # # The 124 does have much better mpg than my 115, and the extra power makes the difference for a less stressful road trip experience (especially going over mountains). # # To comment on another related thread, my (1993) 124 has indeed had a few more problems than John's 1991, but I think that is more from Chicago rust and previous owner neglect than from initial factory quality. # # -bkc # Lynnwood, WA # (his) '76 MB 240D [W115.117/616.916] # (hers) '92 Toyota Celica GT # (ours) '93 MB 300D 2.5 Turbo [W124.128/602.962] # # # # On Sat Feb 26, 2011, John Meister wrote: # > # > agreed the 124 is likely the best, at least within most of our budget ranges... # > # > there's things I really like about the 201. it's nimbleness, # > it's size... it's feel... but the 124 is so much more refined, professional, # > better quality, better ride and maybe the same handling capability... in the right hands... # > # > but you're right about the economy feel... it's not up to snuff with the 124. # > # > which kind of leads me to the idea of a 124, but they get 30... the 201 should get # > 32-34... while the jetta mk IV gets 38+ # > # > my son came up with an interesting thought... is there any way I can operate the # > clutch with a hand lever?
