I suspect a lack of oil; given the mocal dealers want to sell me a minimum of five litres for proper hydraulic oil, I was wondering if I can use some sort of engine or automatic gearbox oil instead to top up the jack. Any idea, advice, etc ? Cheers, Ron. - -- It is not for me to attempt to fathom the inscrutable workings of Providence. -- The Earl of Birkenhead -- http://www.olgiati-in-paraguay.org -- ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 8 Mar 2011 09:39:29 -0800 (PST) From: john Subject: Re: [db] Hydraulic jack oil you might check around for a small tool shop, or even a machine shop. If you took the jack to a shop that had presses and such you might be able to buy what you need from the proprietor. Check a tractor repair shop... they have that stuff in 55 gal drums with pumps attached... bring a cup... :) I've seen it sold in pints and such at cheap tool stores here. amsoil has a synthetic version, it's what is recommended for use in the quadradrive systems on jeeps. john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 si vis pacem, para bellum http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ On Tue, 8 Mar 2011, Renaud (Ron) OLGIATI wrote: # I noticed the hydraulic jack I use in my workshop no longer lifts as high as # it used to, the pump seems to stop pumping past a certain level. # # I suspect a lack of oil; given the mocal dealers want to sell me a minimum of # five litres for proper hydraulic oil, I was wondering if I can use some sort # of engine or automatic gearbox oil instead to top up the jack. # # Any idea, advice, etc ? # # Cheers, # # Ron. # ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #3407 **********************************
