The guy is asking 4700. Looks very clean. Any issues? (Auto?). What kind of mileage will it get? Run, walk or get? My jetta wagon tdi is doing well, 39mpg in town. Good reviews, but with cloth seats my wife made a face and said I should just fix the 300D. Have to agree. Then I pressed my luck. Got her to agree to sell the trailer and the wj and replace it with a J10, the J10 is a place holder for superdawg. :). The profits from all said sales go to the bathroom remodel. See guys, if you want something you have to make sure she gets something too. :) 36 years in Nov. :) - ------Original Message------ From: Edward Pomeroy To: J Subject: Re: [db] Ot: question on car Sent: Mar 20, 2011 11:46 John The last gasoline VW I owned was a 1974 transporter with the standard 4 cyl air cooled with manual shift. My Jetta TDI is like yours a manual so I have no feedback on how their automatics do these days. Maybe someone else on the list has an automatic variant and can comment? My wife is also agitating for a more relliable automatic second car so I am looking at old volvos I can repair on my own. Price wise Jetta seems to be in the right bracket - 4 to 5 K if very clean and well maintained. The plan ultimately was to replace those with SuperDawg, which is still the plan, this white J10 long bed will hold the place and provide garden service, parts shuttle, snow escape vehicle and other civic duties on a limited basis... taking less space and looking pretty fine at the same time... this makes more sense... and was approved by the powers that be... :) also getting my garage door installed on Tuesday... will get this truck likely later in the week... which means I'll be able to finish the Snohomish Monster Carport/Garage and clean up outside, making the powers that be even happier. Have decided to drag the 300D up the hill to the shop that my pastor is friends with the owner, his rates are a little higher than the guy I've been using for the last 25 years, but my guess is he'll do a better job and I save the hassle of towing 10 miles... thanx for the input on the VW Jetta gas/AT - 24-30 mpg... issues with wiring and AT. fixing the Benz... better mileage, known commodity... The temptation to transplant the J10 cab to SuperDawg is gone... it's nice looking but not better... will likely do nothing to this J10 longbed except give it lots to drink and enjoy it's beauty. I am going to move my canopy on to it as well. - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -o|||||o- city/hwy engine/trans/xfr - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2003 VW Jetta GLS Wagon TDI 39/52 mpg 1.9L TDI/5spd - (Tigger) 1991 Mercedes 300D (124) 30/39 mpg 2.5L Turbo Diesel/AT (Shadowfax) insert J10 here... - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- within a week: 1983 Jeep J10 Townside (SJ) (tbd)- 5.9L AT/gas - placeholder for SuperDawg - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- within ???: 1983 Jeep J10 Stepside (SJ) (Superdawg)- under construction since 1999 getting '80 Scout SD33T Diesel, TF727/NP208 mpg: 20/24 expected - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- FOR SALE - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee (WJ) 14/21 mpg 4.7L V8/45RFE/NV247 - selling for bathroom remodel 1975 Jeep J10 long bed (SJ) hydraulic dump trailer - selling for J10 -o|||||o- http://wagoneers.com/johns-vehicles.html - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 si vis pacem, para bellum http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 20 Mar 2011 21:39:08 -0700 (PDT) From: john Subject: [db] pictures of the WJ someone requested pictures of the '99 WJ: http://wagoneers.com/WJ/rigs/1999-WJ-Laredo-4.7-QD-MAR-2011/ALL.html selling it to fund a bathroom remodel and repairs to the '91 300D. have it on CL for $5900 but flexible on the price... it has three issues, 1 of which will be resolved before it leaves: 1) slight dent on hood, not visible in the pictures - by the JEEP logo 2) slight dent in tailgate right of the wiper, visible 3) slight leak in the radiator... will replace of course if we included "economy" that would be the 4th issue. ;) the plan is progressing... selling J10 hydraulic dump trailer, taking money and buying this: http://wagoneers.com/FSJ/rigs/1983-J10-white/ALL.html this works well... the WJ is just sitting... it's too nice to do that... it's got the factory moonroof, infinity sound system, foglights, quadradrive, tow package and then I upgraded the seats to heated leather, added the cargo protection mat in the back... newish Bridgestone Dueler Revo ATs, interstate battery, amsoil 0w30, amsoil synthetics in trans, xfr case and axles... amsoil air filter... best freeway is about 21.3 mpg, done it twice. Sweet interstate all-weather cruiser... been to South Dakota from Seattle twice in it... once in the winter, once in the summer, comfortable both times. The radio controls are on the steering wheel, as are the cruisecontrols. Everything works... no rust... no issues... the incoming J10 will replace the WJ/trailer combo for garden duty and of course the obligatory 4x4 service should something get stuck here, or should it snow again... not likely this season... and I just missed my J10 a lot... soon as SuperDawg is done the white J10 will be looking for another parking spot. I have no plans on upgrading or modifying, just making it 100% mechanically sound and as original as possible. it took a little while but the logic of this arrangement finally took hold... hey, if anyone is looking for a way to get from Portland, OR to Seattle... have I got a deal for you... all you have to do is put enough gas in the J10 to drive it up here... :) and I might even be persuaded to reimburse you! ;) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Snohomish, Washington -o|||||o- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://creationwiki.org http://johnmeister.com http://wagoneers.com http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Mar 2011 05:50:48 -0700 (PDT) From: Jim Hoffman Subject: Re: [db] pictures of the WJ So, John, just do the same "dump box" conversion on that white J-10 and you'll be all set!
