Would take all the fuel out and replace. Marinas do this call it something fancy like polishing and just dump your fuel in their main tanks and replace with fresh. Next pour in a dose of diesel biocide should be available at a marine store. Yes I know Paraquay is land locked but you have rivers so must have boats and marinas. If this doesnt solve the problem you will have to take the tank out and flush it more complely to get the caked on gunk out. Ran into a real stubborn problem in a boat that had been in the Virgin Islands for eight months. Just kept flushing out till all the black goo was gone. Good luck. Should have used the word damage. My memory of the bulb/ CC amp story that has circulated for years was that cruise control damage could result if improper bulbs were used. //steve > Date: Tue, 6 Sep 2011 21:57:31 -0700 > From: john@wagoneers.com > To: smorelen@hotmail.com > CC: diesel-benz@digest.net > Subject: RE: [db] Rube and friends > > interesting... thanx... > > but he does point out that the brake lights are part of the circuit... > > "Since the bulb provides a critical system ground, it is true that at least one, preferably both, brake light bulbs must be working and seated properly for the Cruise Control System to work. I've looked at schematics for my cars [W123, W124] and just don't see how a brake lamp can cause cruise control failure. I would, however, use proper bulbs to avoid expensive plastic melt. This is particularly a risk in the interior illumination locations. I've had a MB parts counter give me incorrect lamps for a climate control unit and discovered their error too late. European-spec bulbs for the exterior lighting are readily available at ordinary parts stores in my area. > # > # BTW, here's someone that agrees with me on the bulb question: http://gdl-online.com/bulb.html > # //steve > # > # > Subject: [db] Rube and friends > # > To: diesel-benz@digest.net > # > From: fullsizejeeps@gmail.com > # > Date: Tue, 6 Sep 2011 23:46:29 +0000 > # > > # > 2 things > # > > # > 1) Does anyone know where it is said that if the wrong bulbs are used that the cruise quits working? > # > > # > 2) Have had this strange wobble in my 87 300D, had two shops look at it, couldn't find anything, suggested shocks. So today coming back from buying $50 of bulbs, see #1, I had this brain spasm, thought to myself, what about the tires. So I went to discount and had them rotate and ck pressure. Guess what, the right rear, the one that felt like it was going to fall off? Cascade Loop - or... has anyone seen Rocky and Bullwinkle lately? Hit a suicidal squirrel near the top of the pass on SR20... he ran right into my front wheel... then we hit a couple of deer on SR21 heading out of Grand Coulee on our way to Spokane... we're ok... airbags didn't go off... drove another 80+ miles to Spokane with it... necks are sore, my right foot is bruised from dropping the anchor so hard... there is deer material on the left side of my jetta, but both disappeared without leaving any contact information.... We were on a 60mph road through open country, entered a gentle sweeping left hand turn with a couple side roads coming in, but slowed down to somewhere between 45 and 55 because of some confusing signs... there was a large silo on the corner... as I started exiting the curve two deer jumped out in front... I was on the anchor hard, had the Jetta coming to a quick halt, but not quick enough... all I saw was the body of the deer hitting the left front corner... the chest is what likely hit the light and hood... I was too busy downshifting and standing on the binders to notice that the deer spun around the side of the car and smacked my driver's door as well... my wife saw the deer head going by the windshield... I thought was I was seeing dust or smoke to my left... but it was the deer... the driver's door is creased slightly in the middle, binds when opening, left fender is mangled, headlight broken, but the lights still work... sort of... hood and grille are bent as well, the driver's mirror was moved forward, guess that's where bambi bounced off the side of my jetta wagon... I turned around immediately and aimed the remaining headlight out into the field, went back up to the top of the curve by an intersection, couldn't find any trace of the deer, didn't have any fluid leaks and we were in the middle of absolutely no where... something like 30 miles south of the Grand Coulee Dam and 30 miles north of Odessa... we made it ok to Spokane, will get estimates tomorrow from local body shops and contact the insurance company to see what they'll do... then I'll likely hit a few wrecking yards here in spokane for a headlight assembly at least... Jettas are tough little cars... I've seen much worse damage to other cars at slower speeds... I haven't looked at the Panzer Plate to see if it has any deer bits on it... suspect it helped keep the front end from caving in... saving the radiator/ac and oil cooler... Haven't tried to open the hood yet... will try that in the morning... here's a few of the shots of the damage: http://fotomeister.us/2011/09-Sep-07-CascadeLoop-deer-damage-mac/JM7_3937_2011-09-07.jpg http://fotomeister.us/2011/09-Sep-07-CascadeLoop-deer-damage-mac/JM7_3935_2011-09-07.jpg http://fotomeister.us/2011/09-Sep-07-CascadeLoop-deer-damage-mac/JM7_3921_2011-09-07.jpg http://fotomeister.us/2011/09-Sep-07-CascadeLoop-deer-damage-mac/JM7_3938_2011-09-07.jpg our other jetta is at aamco... they found a couple of issues, so hopefully that one will be good in a day or two... dropped the 300D off at another shop and hoping it'll be done in a few days too... or I'll be driving my 8mpg J10. :) we were trying to sell this jetta wagon... we'll see how that plays in peoria now. :) Otherwise, besides a suicidal squirrel and two hit and run deer... the final score for the day is JETTA 2 - Wildlife 0. beautiful drive through the Cascades, only a handful of the 700 pictures I took: http://fotomeister.us/2011/09-Sep-07-CascadeLoop-deer-damage-mac/ALL.html The Cascade Loop can easily be done in a day... two beautiful passes... john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -o|||||o- fahrvergnugen y'all Snohomish, Washington - where Jeeps and VWs don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 http://JohnMeister.com HTTP://WAGONEERS.COM http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 8 Sep 2011 18:55:19 +0000 From: john Subject: [db] Re: Comic: checking out new cars This so true. (The cartoon linked below.) Talked to a body shop and the insurance folks. Around 4k worth of damage, animal contact comes under comprehensive policy, doesn't count against my record. The Hartford is very easy to deal with, so far. I believe I had them years ago and they took good care of us before as well, I think when I totalled my xj while off-roading. Still have some one interested in the jetta despite the extra damage. Will do the math and see how it works out. If I do some of the work I can put the entire car right for the estimate. Will increase the value significantly. Shoot I may keep it and sell the benz if it's all nice and straight and shiny like new. :) Where's that Wallflowers CD? Need to play One Headlight. :) __john_at_http://wagoneers.com__ - -----Original Message----- From: Bruce Caruthers Date: Thu, 8 Sep 2011 11:13:05 To: John Meister Reply-To: Bruce Caruthers Subject: Comic: checking out new cars http://www.gocomics.com/pluggers/2011/09/08 ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Sep 2011 01:48:06 +0000 From: john Subject: Re: [db] Cascade Loop.... or... I was fast enough to get on the binders to slow us down just enough to clip it instead of full broadside. __john_at_http://wagoneers.com__ - -----Original Message----- From: Steve Morelen Date: Thu, 8 Sep 2011 21:23:43 To: Subject: RE: [db] Cascade Loop.... or... Glad you folks are [mostly] OK. I've never hit a deer...came close once or twice. I hear they like to jump up just as they get in front of the windshield, making for quite a bad situation when the glass meets the animal. //steve > Date: Thu, 8 Sep 2011 02:38:02 -0700 > From: john@wagoneers.com > To: > Subject: [db] Cascade Loop.... or... > > Cascade Loop - or... has anyone seen Rocky and Bullwinkle lately? > > Hit a suicidal squirrel near the top of the pass on SR20... he > ran right into my front wheel... > > then we hit a couple of deer on SR21 heading out of Grand Coulee on our way > to Spokane... we're ok... airbags didn't go off... drove another 80+ miles > to Spokane with it... necks are sore, > my right foot is bruised from dropping the anchor so hard... there > is deer material on the left side of my jetta, but both disappeared > without leaving any contact information.... > > We were on a 60mph road through open country, entered a gentle sweeping > left hand turn with a couple side roads coming in, but slowed down to > somewhere between 45 and 55 because of some confusing signs... there > was a large silo on the corner... > > as I started exiting the curve two deer jumped out in front... > I was on the anchor hard, had the Jetta coming to > a quick halt, but not quick enough... all I saw was the body of the > deer hitting the left front corner... the chest is what likely hit > the light and hood... > > I was too busy downshifting and standing on the binders to notice that > the deer spun around the side of the car and smacked my driver's door as well... > my wife saw the deer head going by the windshield...
