I miss them. Freedom had been badly wounded already, but it was still alive. Excellence had been marred, but people still recognized it. I fear that now the way things were may be too far gone to ever be brought back. When I was married in the 70's we bought one at the px, had it for years, not as durable as the old one. We finally replaced it with an expensive european model that is quite good. Star something. Have had to replace the cord winder and power hose but it does a good job and is light and easy to move around. But I know what you mean about those old units. Most of those things were built to last. Not so much by design, but because that's all the engineers knew how to make them back then. Like older cars, they'd start with a chunk of steel and whittle off the bits that they didn't think they needed. Over time they whittled more off until things started breaking. In france it's my understanding they got to that point faster. In america when they got to that point they started using plastic. Then they just gave up and let the japanese do it. ;). You know with a little thought some one could really pick up on this idea and have some serious satirical fun with it. :) - ------Original Message------ From: Renaud (Ron) Olgiati Sender: owner-diesel-benz@digest.net To: dbl Subject: Re: [db] When things were "simple" Sent: Nov 5, 2011 02:53 In the late fifties the French state run electricity company started changing from 110 volts to 220 volts; whenever a new tenant or owner signed to be connected, he would get 220; after several years, in 1967 the electricity company compulsorily changed the remaining users, taking on the cost of modifying appliances. Monday I'll call AAMCO and let them know where it's smoldering... well, at least it failed in the warranty period... let's hope they actually use good parts this time... Actually, I'm going to try to have Dave's Transmission Service in Lynnwood make the repairs, AAMCO has proven they are totally incompetent and incapable of fixing these transmission... I mean when their sharpest, brightest tech points to the EGR valve on my TDI and says that's the throttle body I must confess I have little confidence in what they can do... well, I guess we'll be taking the Mercedes to church tomorrow... :) john ----- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ -o|||||o- fahrvergnugen y'all Snohomish, Washington - where Jeeps and VWs don't rust, they mold http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 TRSTGZS http://JohnMeister.com HTTP://WAGONEERS.COM http://fotomeister.us - ------------------------------------------------------------------------ ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #3503 **********************************
