This was installed in my 190d by the dealer who sold it to me. It has an irregularity on the drivers side, which might be tamed with a heat gun. Otherwise, it's in decent shape. I'm going to install a new coverlay, because I'm tired of the bump and don't own a heat gun. Well, with much "arguing" with my wife, I finally convinced her (or as she would say "wore her down") to let me get the 2009 Jetta TDI that I've been ogling. :) For the most part it's in good shape but it has very high highway miles. Was supposedly driven by a pharmaceutical saleswoman in Texas. It has 238k miles for a 3.5 year old car. It has a couple of minor issues, the little round button to control the exterior mirrors is broken, the sound deadening blanket is falling off the hood, etc. But a more concerning issue is that I can't get the back doors to lock. Their buttons don't work, the front door button locks the front doors but not the rears and the remote entry button won't lock those doors. What's up with that??? I need to get that fixed straight away. Any suggestions from you TDI owners out there?? I don't know how much has changed... the wiki's on VW are pretty good. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Jetta The Jettas are finely engineered German cars... not quite the quality of the Mercedes Benz... not quite the reliability... but still solid, reliable, economical and enjoyable to drive. I prefered my '02 and '03 Jetta TDI wagons to my '91 and '87 300Ds, except for the performance part... the Benz outhandled and outperformed the Jettas... the benz was quieter and had a nicer ride... but the feel of the Jetta was great... I like to drive it... that's not something that happens very often... seems like Jettas and full size jeeps and not all of the full size Jeeps... I like our Liberty CRD, different feel than the Jetta, but the Jetta rides nicer... our '83 J10 rides better and is nicer to drive, but I have to fill it up in the time it takes my Jetta to move off of the full mark... :) I think some of the newer Mercedes Diesels might have the same feel as the Jettas, not "feel", but appeal? Hard to describe... the '9x E300 we test drove felt pretty good... just reading the wiki on the MkV version: "In 2005, the Institute noted that the side impact protection performance was the best they had ever rated.[100] In 2006, the car received a "Top Safety Pick" award from the Institute.[101] The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the fifth generation Jetta 4/5 stars for both driver and passenger protection in a frontal impact, while the car received 5/5 stars stars in a side impact crash test.[102] To tout the safety of the car, a series of television commercials with the tag line "Safe happens" showed the car being involved in a collision whilst afterward the occupants are shown to have emerged unscathed." you saw the pictures of my '03 estate that had been side-swiped... the doors were turned into some seriously twisted sculputures... the glass didn't break... the air bags deployed yet the main body was undamaged... we hit a deer with the same car... insurance estimated $3500 worth of damage... I was able to fix it for about $350 worth of used parts the same color... took a bit of searching to find a match... but we were able to put the car back to normal in one day... didn't fix all of it, but enough that you couldn't tell it had hit a deer... I sold it for about 7k and it still had 2k worth of damage from the first accident... BTW, what's your VIN start out with? 3? if so, it was made in Mexico... that's where our white '02 TDI sedan was built... couldn't tell any quality difference with the German made estates... they have good quality control. I'll be watching used prices of the 2003 and later mercedes Diesels... what model numbers are those again? my jetta wagon as 223,000 miles on it... it's not wearing the mileage as well as my mercedes did... I need to replace some bushings, it squeaks a bit... someone on the tdi list said the sway bar bushings are the issue... sheesh... I've had several mercedes with over 200k on them and never even replaced shocks... ;) oh well... none of my mercedes has ever gotten 52 mpg either... john ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -o|||||o- Linux: the choice of a GNU generation http://WAGONEERS.COM Snohomish, WA- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ...shop AMSOIL directly at: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education" Theodore Roosevelt (26th President (1901-09), 1858-1919) RTM: TRSTGZS - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- On Sun, 12 Aug 2012, john wrote: # here's some shots of changing out the driver's door latch assembly... never # did get the plunger thing reinstalled... :) # # http://johnmeister.com/Jetta-TDI/Body/DoorPanel-Console-FusePanel/ALL.html # # this also shows the preparations for installing euro headlights...
