While down there we met up with the CEO of the company that I work for. He relocated down there a couple of years ago. My Jetta CAME from TX and I'm pretty sure I saw way more VW TDIs than I did MBs... My silver tdi with working ac seems like a good idea, however when we were down in CA for the eclipse my fan burned up in the ac blower. :). Of course if I'd been in a benz the freon would have leaked out. Germans don't get very hot summers. Very much like Seattle. In 76 there was a heat wave, in the 80's, people were dying, literally. No one had ac. What was interesting is they don't use screens on the windows, the birds eat the bugs. :) John - ------Original Message------ From: Jim Hoffman Sender: owner-diesel-benz@digest.net To: dbl Subject: RE: Making Car Payments - was: [db] Progress report Sent: Dec 5, 2012 09:21 My son and I went down to see Ian Anderson perform at the Paramount Theater in Austin. Men more likely to offend. By Maayana Miskin First Publish: 12/4/2012, 8:58 PM The latest report on traffic violations in Israel breaks down offenses by gender and ethnicity, showing that men, and Arab men in particular, are more likely to offend. Men were found to be significantly more likely to commit driving offenses, with men making up 78% of those receiving tickets or warnings, while comprising 58% of the total number of licensed drivers. Arab men in particular were more likely to offend, with 22% of traffic offenses committed by Arab men b^S more than twice what would be expected based on the proportion of Arab men among licensed drivers (10%). Arab women, on the other hand, were unlikely to offend, with just 3% of traffic violations committed by Arab women while 5% of licensed drivers are Arab females. The discrepancy may be due at least in part to different driving patterns. In many countries male drivers, on average, spend significantly more time on the road. Gender and ethnicity were found to be linked not only to likelihood of offense, but also to the types of traffic violations most frequently committed. The most common offense among Jewish drivers was speeding, which accounted for 20% of violations. Among Arab drivers, the most common offense, accounting for 27% of violations, was failure to use safety features, most commonly failure to wear a seatbelt. Young Arab drivers were also likely to be stopped for driving a vehicle in extremely poor condition. Thirteen percent of violations recorded for Arab male drivers under age 24 were handed out because b^\the build of the vehicle, its condition or its parts do not meet [safety] standards.b^] Male driversb^Y most common offense was failing to wear a seatbelt or use other safety features (20%), while female driversb^Y most frequent offense was failing to heed a traffic light or traffic sign (20%). The survey found a link between traffic offenses and age, as well: between age 25 and 64, driversb^Y likelihood of offending dropped with age. ----- - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- -o|||||o- Linux: the choice of a GNU generation http://WAGONEERS.COM Snohomish, WA- where Jeeps don't rust, they mold ...shop AMSOIL directly at: http://AMSOIL.com/redirect.cgi?zo=283461 - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- "A thorough knowledge of the Bible is worth more than a college education" Theodore Roosevelt (26th President (1901-09), 1858-1919) RTB&TRSTGZS - ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 6 Dec 2012 21:55:39 -0800 From: Bruce Caruthers Subject: [db] SL fire Well, that was interesting... Moisture from crack in convertible softtop + dripping into rear/trunk fusebox = car fire right above the trunk battery. At least a neighbor found it before too much happened (alarm was going off and he smelled the smoke) and Brooke came home a few minutes later so they could open it up and get to it. Looks like the only permanent damage is some wiring, one of the fuseboxes, and most of the stereo system (melty melty -- that is where all the smoke and smell came from, I think). Was at an appt when got the call, checked voicemail, said "gotta go, one of our cars is on fire". After disassembling the whole trunk interior to check for any smoldering or additional damage, I notice that there clearly has been aftermarket wiring done. www.brucecaruthers.com/Cars/91-SL/fire,6Dec12/ For now, I have completely removed the battery from the car. - -bkc Lynnwood, WA (his) '76 MB 240D [W115.117/616.916] (acquired 11Jun76) (hers) '92 Toyota Celica GT (long overdue to be retired or sold) (ours) '87 MB 300D Turbo [W124.133/603.960] (acquired 21Apr12) (ours) '91 MB 300SL-24 [R129.061/M104.981] (acquired 25May12, diesel engine swap planned from wrecked W124 OM602) (RIP) '93 MB 300D 2.5 Turbo [W124.128/602.962] (totaled 28Mar12) ------------------------------ End of diesel-benz-digest V1 #3699 **********************************
