testing nikon p1000 from about 100 feet away

first shot is at 24mm (look for the yellow sweatshirt! 2nd is at 300mm,
then the last two at 3000mm! all shot from the same spot! (referencing 35mm focal length equivalent)

Look at the picture on the left, see the hat? It's the one on the right... this picture is of the button!
Remember this is a 16MP 1/2.3" sensor (tiny), with a x125 optical zoom! 24mm-3000mm...
I wonder if I'd used a tripod if it would have been sharper. 3000mm is insane.
Thermal effects in the air affect the quality of long distant shots!

I am glad I found this used/open box version... will use this for KAYAKING! Should be great for eagles!
Dunking this by accident will be significantly less traumatic than my full frame DSLR!

This is a rather unique, and heavy "bridge camera", and it works well closer in, AND does macro well, this is an old Matchbox Gladiator pickup truck:

If you're looking for a camera that "does it all" and are ok with these images, consider the Nikon P900 or P1000.
The P900 is "only" a 2000mm telephoto and is new for around $500, much less used, while the P1000 retails for a grand.
There isn't a lot of differences between the two, the P1000 has a better processing engine/chip, and uses 77mm filters
versus the 67mm on the P900. The reality is the P900 is likely as good, lighter and a lot less money.

I should try the P900, they are rated well. FWIW, I have tried the latest Sony and Lumix models, for me the P1000 is "better".
Two things made me go with the P1000... the 77mm filter and finding a used one!
