Deu 2:8 And when we passed by from our brethren the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath, and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab. Deu 2:8 "So we passed beyond our brothers the sons of Esau, who live in Seir, away from the Arabah road, away from Elath and from Ezion-geber. And we turned and passed through by the way of the wilderness of Moab.
Deu 2:9 And the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle: for I will not give thee of their land for a possession; because I have given Ar unto the children of Lot for a possession. Deu 2:9 Then the Lord said to me, 'Do not harass Moab, nor provoke them to war, for I will not give you any of their land as a possession, because I have given Ar to the sons of Lot as a possession.'
Deu 2:10 The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; Deu 2:10 ( The Emim lived there formerly, a people as great, numerous, and tall as the Anakim.
Deu 2:11 Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites called them Emims. Deu 2:11 Like the Anakim, they are also regarded as Rephaim, but the Moabites call them Emim.
Deu 2:12 The Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead; as Israel did unto the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them. Deu 2:12 The Horites formerly lived in Seir, but the sons of Esau dispossessed them and destroyed them from before them and settled in their place, just as Israel did to the land of their possession which the Lord gave to them.)
Deu 2:13 Now rise up, said I, and get you over the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered. Deu 2:13 'Now arise and cross over the brook Zered yourselves.' So we crossed over the brook Zered.
Deu 2:14 And the space in which we came from Kadeshbarnea, until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty and eight years; until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the host, as the LORD sware unto them. Deu 2:14 Now the time that it took for us to come from Kadesh-barnea until we crossed over the brook Zered was thirty-eight years, until all the generation of the men of war perished from within the camp, as the Lord had sworn to them.
Deu 2:15 For indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the host, until they were consumed. Deu 2:15 Moreover the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from within the camp until they all perished.
Deu 2:16 So it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people, Deu 2:16 "So it came about when all the men of war had finally perished from among the people, Deu|2|16|καὶ ἐγενήθη ἐπεὶ διέπεσαν πάντες οἱ ἄνδρες οἱ πολεμισταὶ ἀποθνῄσκοντες ἐκ μέσου τοῦ λαοῦ
Deu 2:17 That the LORD spake unto me, saying, Deu 2:17 that the Lord spoke to me, saying, Deu|2|17|καὶ ἐλάλησεν κύριος πρός με λέγων
Deu 2:18 Thou art to pass over through Ar, the coast of Moab, this day: Deu 2:18 'Today you shall cross over Ar, the border of Moab.
Deu 2:19 And when thou comest nigh over against the children of Ammon, distress them not, nor meddle with them: for I will not give thee of the land of the children of Ammon any possession; because I have given it unto the children of Lot for a possession. Deu 2:19 When you come opposite the sons of Ammon, do not harass them nor provoke them, for I will not give you any of the land of the sons of Ammon as a possession, because I have given it to the sons of Lot as a possession.'
Deu 2:20 (That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims; Deu 2:20 ( It is also regarded as the land of the Rephaim, for Rephaim formerly lived in it, but the Ammonites call them Zamzummin, Deu|2|20|γῆ Ραφαϊν λογισθήσεται καὶ γὰρ ἐπ᾽ αὐτῆς κατῴκουν οἱ Ραφαϊν τὸ πρότερον καὶ οἱ Αμμανῖται ὀνομάζουσιν αὐτοὺς Ζομζομμιν
Deu 2:21 A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead: Deu 2:21 a people as great, numerous, and tall as the Anakim, but the Lord destroyed them before them. And they dispossessed them and settled in their place, Deu|2|21|ἔθνος μέγα καὶ πολὺ καὶ δυνατώτερον ὑμῶν ὥσπερ οἱ Ενακιμ καὶ ἀπώλεσεν αὐτοὺς κύριος πρὸ προσώπου αὐτῶν καὶ κατεκληρονόμησαν καὶ κατῳκίσθησαν ἀντ᾽ αὐτῶν ἕως τῆς ἡμέρας ταύτης
Deu 2:22 As he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day: Deu 2:22 just as He did for the sons of Esau, who live in Seir, when He destroyed the Horites from before them; they dispossessed them and settled in their place even to this day.
Deu 2:23 And the Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Azzah, the Caphtorims, which came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them, and dwelt in their stead.) Deu 2:23 And the Avvim, who lived in villages as far as Gaza, the Caphtorim who came from Caphtor, destroyed them and lived in their place.)
Deu 2:24 Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass over the river Arnon: behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land: begin to possess it, and contend with him in battle. Deu 2:24 'Arise, set out, and pass through the valley of Arnon. Look! I have given Sihon the Amorite, king of Heshbon, and his land into your hand; begin to take possession and contend with him in battle.
Deu 2:25 This day will I begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the nations that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear report of thee, and shall tremble, and be in anguish because of thee. Deu 2:25 This day I will begin to put the dread and fear of you upon the peoples everywhere under the heavens, who, when they hear the report of you, will tremble and be in anguish because of you.'
Deu 2:26 And I sent messengers out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, Deu 2:26 "So I sent messengers from the wilderness of Kedemoth to Sihon king of Heshbon with words of peace, saying, Deu|2|26|καὶ ἀπέστειλα πρέσβεις ἐκ τῆς ἐρήμου Κεδαμωθ πρὸς Σηων βασιλέα Εσεβων λόγοις εἰρηνικοῖς λέγων
Deu 2:27 Let me pass through thy land: I will go along by the high way, I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left. Deu 2:27 'Let me pass through your land, I will travel only on the highway; I will not turn aside to the right or to the left.
Deu 2:28 Thou shalt sell me meat for money, that I may eat; and give me water for money, that I may drink: only I will pass through on my feet; Deu 2:28 You will sell me food for money so that I may eat, and give me water for money so that I may drink, only let me pass through on foot, Deu|2|28|βρώματα ἀργυρίου ἀποδώσῃ μοι καὶ φάγομαι καὶ ὕδωρ ἀργυρίου ἀποδώσῃ μοι καὶ πίομαι πλὴν ὅτι παρελεύσομαι τοῖς ποσίν
Deu 2:29 (As the children of Esau which dwell in Seir, and the Moabites which dwell in Ar, did unto me;) until I shall pass over Jordan into the land which the LORD our God giveth us. Deu 2:29 just as the sons of Esau who live in Seir and the Moabites who live in Ar did for me, until I cross over the Jordan into the land which the Lord our God is giving to us.'
Deu 2:30 But Sihon king of Heshbon would not let us pass by him: for the LORD thy God hardened his spirit, and made his heart obstinate, that he might deliver him into thy hand, as appeareth this day. Deu 2:30 But Sihon king of Heshbon was not willing for us to pass through his land; for the Lord your God hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate, in order to deliver him into your hand, as he is today.
Deu 2:31 And the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee: begin to possess, that thou mayest inherit his land. Deu 2:31 The Lord said to me, 'See, I have begun to deliver Sihon and his land over to you. Begin to occupy, that you may possess his land.'
Deu 2:32 Then Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz. Deu 2:32 "Then Sihon with all his people came out to meet us in battle at Jahaz.
Deu 2:33 And the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him, and his sons, and all his people. Deu 2:33 The Lord our God delivered him over to us, and we defeated him with his sons and all his people.
Deu 2:34 And we took all his cities at that time, and utterly destroyed the men, and the women, and the little ones, of every city, we left none to remain: Deu 2:34 So we captured all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed the men, women and children of every city. We left no survivor.
Deu 2:35 Only the cattle we took for a prey unto ourselves, and the spoil of the cities which we took. Deu 2:35 We took only the animals as our booty and the spoil of the cities which we had captured.
Deu 2:36 From Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river, even unto Gilead, there was not one city too strong for us: the LORD our God delivered all unto us: Deu 2:36 From Aroer which is on the edge of the valley of Arnon and from the city which is in the valley, even to Gilead, there was no city that was too high for us; the Lord our God delivered all over to us.
Deu 2:37 Only unto the land of the children of Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto whatsoever the LORD our God forbad us. Deu 2:37 Only you did not go near to the land of the sons of Ammon, all along the river Jabbok and the cities of the hill country, and wherever the Lord our God had commanded us.
