Day - 318 - Acts 8-9
Act 8:1 And Saul was consenting unto his death. And at that time there was a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles. Act 8:1 Saul was in hearty agreement with putting him to death. And on that day a great persecution began against the church in Jerusalem, and they were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles. Act|8|1|σαῦλος δὲ ἦν συνευδοκῶν τῇ ἀναιρέσει αὐτοῦ. ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν ἐκείνῃ τῇ ἡμέρᾳ διωγμὸς μέγας ἐπὶ τὴν ἐκκλησίαν τὴν ἐν ἱεροσολύμοις· πάντες δὲ διεσπάρησαν κατὰ τὰς χώρας τῆς ἰουδαίας καὶ σαμαρείας πλὴν τῶν ἀποστόλων.
Act 8:2 And devout men carried Stephen to his burial, and made great lamentation over him. Act 8:2 Some devout men buried Stephen, and made loud lamentation over him. Act|8|2|συνεκόμισαν δὲ τὸν στέφανον ἄνδρες εὐλαβεῖς καὶ ἐποίησαν κοπετὸν μέγαν ἐπ᾽ αὐτῶ.
Act 8:3 As for Saul, he made havock of the church, entering into every house, and haling men and women committed them to prison. Act 8:3 But Saul began ravaging the church, entering house after house, and dragging off men and women, he would put them in prison. Act 8:6 And the people with one accord gave heed unto those things which Philip spake, hearing and seeing the miracles which he did. Act 8:6 The crowds with one accord were giving attention to what was said by Philip, as they heard and saw the signs which he was performing. Act 8:7 For unclean spirits, crying with loud voice, came out of many that were possessed with them: and many taken with palsies, and that were lame, were healed. Act 8:7 For in the case of many who had unclean spirits, they were coming out of them shouting with a loud voice; and many who had been paralyzed and lame were healed. Act 8:8 And there was great joy in that city. Act 8:8 So there was much rejoicing in that city. Act|8|8|ἐγένετο δὲ πολλὴ χαρὰ ἐν τῇ πόλει ἐκείνῃ.
Act 8:9 But there was a certain man, called Simon, which beforetime in the same city used sorcery, and bewitched the people of Samaria, giving out that himself was some great one: Act 8:9 Now there was a man named Simon, who formerly was practicing magic in the city and astonishing the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great; Act|8|9|ἀνὴρ δέ τις ὀνόματι σίμων προϊπῆρχεν ἐν τῇ πόλει μαγεύων καὶ ἐξιστάνων τὸ ἔθνος τῆς σαμαρείας, λέγων εἶναί τινα ἑαυτὸν μέγαν,
Act 8:10 To whom they all gave heed, from the least to the greatest, saying, This man is the great power of God. Act 8:10 and they all, from smallest to greatest, were giving attention to him, saying," This man is what is called the Great Power of God." Act|8|10|ᾧ προσεῖχον πάντες ἀπὸ μικροῦ ἕως μεγάλου λέγοντες, οὖτός ἐστιν ἡ δύναμις τοῦ θεοῦ ἡ καλουμένη μεγάλη.
Act 8:11 And to him they had regard, because that of long time he had bewitched them with sorceries. Act 8:11 And they were giving him attention because he had for a long time astonished them with his magic arts. Act|8|11|προσεῖχον δὲ αὐτῶ διὰ τὸ ἱκανῶ χρόνῳ ταῖς μαγείαις ἐξεστακέναι αὐτούς.
Act 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the things concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they were baptized, both men and women. Act 8:12 But when they believed Philip preaching the good news about the kingdom of God and the name of Jesus Christ, they were being baptized, men and women alike. Act 8:13 Then Simon himself believed also: and when he was baptized, he continued with Philip, and wondered, beholding the miracles and signs which were done. Act 8:13 Even Simon himself believed; and after being baptized, he continued on with Philip, and as he observed signs and great miracles taking place, he was constantly amazed. Act 8:16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.) Act 8:17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost. Act 8:17 Then they began laying their hands on them, and they were receiving the Holy Spirit. Act|8|17|τότε ἐπετίθεσαν τὰς χεῖρας ἐπ᾽ αὐτούς, καὶ ἐλάμβανον πνεῦμα ἅγιον.
Act 8:18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money, Act 8:18 Now when Simon saw that the Spirit was bestowed through the laying on of the apostles' hands, he offered them money, Act|8|18|ἰδὼν δὲ ὁ σίμων ὅτι διὰ τῆς ἐπιθέσεως τῶν χειρῶν τῶν ἀποστόλων δίδοται τὸ πνεῦμα, προσήνεγκεν αὐτοῖς χρήματα
Act 8:19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost. Act 8:19 saying," Give this authority to me as well, so that everyone on whom I lay my hands may receive the Holy Spirit." Act|8|19|λέγων, δότε κἀμοὶ τὴν ἐξουσίαν ταύτην ἵνα ᾧ ἐὰν ἐπιθῶ τὰς χεῖρας λαμβάνῃ πνεῦμα ἅγιον.
Act 8:20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money. Act 8:20 But Peter said to him," May your silver perish with you, because you thought you could obtain the gift of God with money! Act|8|20|πέτρος δὲ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτόν, τὸ ἀργύριόν σου σὺν σοὶ εἴη εἰς ἀπώλειαν, ὅτι τὴν δωρεὰν τοῦ θεοῦ ἐνόμισας διὰ χρημάτων κτᾶσθαι.
Act 8:21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God. Act 8:21 You have no part or portion in this matter, for your heart is not right before God. Act|8|21|οὐκ ἔστιν σοι μερὶς οὐδὲ κλῆρος ἐν τῶ λόγῳ τούτῳ, ἡ γὰρ καρδία σου οὐκ ἔστιν εὐθεῖα ἔναντι τοῦ θεοῦ.
Act 8:22 Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee. Act 8:22 Therefore repent of this wickedness of yours, and pray the Lord that, if possible, the intention of your heart may be forgiven you. Act|8|22|μετανόησον οὗν ἀπὸ τῆς κακίας σου ταύτης, καὶ δεήθητι τοῦ κυρίου εἰ ἄρα ἀφεθήσεταί σοι ἡ ἐπίνοια τῆς καρδίας σου·
Act 8:23 For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. Act 8:23 For I see that you are in the gall of bitterness and in the bondage of iniquity." Act|8|23|εἰς γὰρ χολὴν πικρίας καὶ σύνδεσμον ἀδικίας ὁρῶ σε ὄντα.
Act 8:24 Then answered Simon, and said, Pray ye to the LORD for me, that none of these things which ye have spoken come upon me. Act 8:24 But Simon answered and said," Pray to the Lord for me yourselves, so that nothing of what you have said may come upon me." Act|8|24|ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ σίμων εἶπεν, δεήθητε ὑμεῖς ὑπὲρ ἐμοῦ πρὸς τὸν κύριον ὅπως μηδὲν ἐπέλθῃ ἐπ᾽ ἐμὲ ὧν εἰρήκατε.
Act 8:25 And they, when they had testified and preached the word of the Lord, returned to Jerusalem, and preached the gospel in many villages of the Samaritans. Act 8:25 So, when they had solemnly testified and spoken the word of the Lord, they started back to Jerusalem, and were preaching the gospel to many villages of the Samaritans. Act|8|25|οἱ μὲν οὗν διαμαρτυράμενοι καὶ λαλήσαντες τὸν λόγον τοῦ κυρίου ὑπέστρεφον εἰς ἱεροσόλυμα, πολλάς τε κώμας τῶν σαμαριτῶν εὐηγγελίζοντο.
Act 8:26 And the angel of the Lord spake unto Philip, saying, Arise, and go toward the south unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza, which is desert. Act 8:26 But an angel of the Lord spoke to Philip saying," Get up and go south to the road that descends from Jerusalem to Gaza." ( This is a desert road. ) Act|8|26|ἄγγελος δὲ κυρίου ἐλάλησεν πρὸς φίλιππον λέγων, ἀνάστηθι καὶ πορεύου κατὰ μεσημβρίαν ἐπὶ τὴν ὁδὸν τὴν καταβαίνουσαν ἀπὸ ἰερουσαλὴμ εἰς γάζαν· αὕτη ἐστὶν ἔρημος.
Act 8:27 And he arose and went: and, behold, a man of Ethiopia, an eunuch of great authority under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who had the charge of all her treasure, and had come to Jerusalem for to worship, Act 8:27 So he got up and went; and there was an Ethiopian eunuch, a court official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians, who was in charge of all her treasure; and he had come to Jerusalem to worship, Act|8|27|καὶ ἀναστὰς ἐπορεύθη· καὶ ἰδοὺ ἀνὴρ αἰθίοψ εὐνοῦχος δυνάστης κανδάκης βασιλίσσης αἰθιόπων, ὃς ἦν ἐπὶ πάσης τῆς γάζης αὐτῆς, ὃς ἐληλύθει προσκυνήσων εἰς ἰερουσαλήμ,
Act 8:28 Was returning, and sitting in his chariot read Esaias the prophet. Act 8:28 and he was returning and sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah. Act|8|28|ἦν τε ὑποστρέφων καὶ καθήμενος ἐπὶ τοῦ ἅρματος αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀνεγίνωσκεν τὸν προφήτην ἠσαΐαν.
Act 8:29 Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot. Act 8:29 Then the Spirit said to Philip," Go up and join this chariot." Act|8|29|εἶπεν δὲ τὸ πνεῦμα τῶ φιλίππῳ, πρόσελθε καὶ κολλήθητι τῶ ἅρματι τούτῳ.
Act 8:30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? Act 8:30 Philip ran up and heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and said," Do you understand what you are reading?" Act|8|30|προσδραμὼν δὲ ὁ φίλιππος ἤκουσεν αὐτοῦ ἀναγινώσκοντος ἠσαΐαν τὸν προφήτην, καὶ εἶπεν, ἆρά γε γινώσκεις ἃ ἀναγινώσκεις;
Act 8:31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. Act 8:31 And he said," Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?" And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him. Act|8|31|ὁ δὲ εἶπεν, πῶς γὰρ ἂν δυναίμην ἐὰν μή τις ὁδηγήσει με; παρεκάλεσέν τε τὸν φίλιππον ἀναβάντα καθίσαι σὺν αὐτῶ.
Act 8:32 The place of the scripture which he read was this, He was led as a sheep to the slaughter; and like a lamb dumb before his shearer, so opened he not his mouth: Act 8:32 Now the passage of Scripture which he was reading was this:" He was led as a sheep to slaughter; And as a lamb before its shearer is silent, So He does not open His mouth. Act|8|32|ἡ δὲ περιοχὴ τῆς γραφῆς ἣν ἀνεγίνωσκεν ἦν αὕτη· ὡς πρόβατον ἐπὶ σφαγὴν ἤχθη, καὶ ὡς ἀμνὸς ἐναντίον τοῦ κείραντος αὐτὸν ἄφωνος, οὕτως οὐκ ἀνοίγει τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ.
Act 8:33 In his humiliation his judgment was taken away: and who shall declare his generation? for his life is taken from the earth. Act 8:33 "In humiliation His judgment was taken away; Who will relate His generation? For His life is removed from the earth." Act|8|33|ἐν τῇ ταπεινώσει [αὐτοῦ] ἡ κρίσις αὐτοῦ ἤρθη· τὴν γενεὰν αὐτοῦ τίς διηγήσεται; ὅτι αἴρεται ἀπὸ τῆς γῆς ἡ ζωὴ αὐτοῦ.
Act 8:34 And the eunuch answered Philip, and said, I pray thee, of whom speaketh the prophet this? of himself, or of some other man? Act 8:34 The eunuch answered Philip and said," Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?" Act|8|34|ἀποκριθεὶς δὲ ὁ εὐνοῦχος τῶ φιλίππῳ εἶπεν, δέομαί σου, περὶ τίνος ὁ προφήτης λέγει τοῦτο; περὶ ἑαυτοῦ ἢ περὶ ἑτέρου τινός;
Act 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. Act 8:35 Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him. Act|8|35|ἀνοίξας δὲ ὁ φίλιππος τὸ στόμα αὐτοῦ καὶ ἀρξάμενος ἀπὸ τῆς γραφῆς ταύτης εὐηγγελίσατο αὐτῶ τὸν ἰησοῦν.
Act 8:36 And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? Act 8:36 As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch *said," Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?" Act|8|36|ὡς δὲ ἐπορεύοντο κατὰ τὴν ὁδόν, ἦλθον ἐπί τι ὕδωρ, καί φησιν ὁ εὐνοῦχος, ἰδοὺ ὕδωρ· τί κωλύει με βαπτισθῆναι;
Act 8:37 And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. Act 8:37 [ And Philip said," If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said," I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."] Act|8|37|
Act 8:38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him. Act 8:38 And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. Act|8|38|καὶ ἐκέλευσεν στῆναι τὸ ἅρμα, καὶ κατέβησαν ἀμφότεροι εἰς τὸ ὕδωρ ὅ τε φίλιππος καὶ ὁ εὐνοῦχος, καὶ ἐβάπτισεν αὐτόν.
Act 8:39 And when they were come up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the eunuch saw him no more: and he went on his way rejoicing. Act 8:39 When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing. Act|8|39|ὅτε δὲ ἀνέβησαν ἐκ τοῦ ὕδατος, πνεῦμα κυρίου ἥρπασεν τὸν φίλιππον, καὶ οὐκ εἶδεν αὐτὸν οὐκέτι ὁ εὐνοῦχος· ἐπορεύετο γὰρ τὴν ὁδὸν αὐτοῦ χαίρων.
Act 8:40 But Philip was found at Azotus: and passing through he preached in all the cities, till he came to Caesarea. Act 8:40 But Philip found himself at Azotus, and as he passed through he kept preaching the gospel to all the cities until he came to Caesarea. Act|8|40|φίλιππος δὲ εὑρέθη εἰς ἄζωτον, καὶ διερχόμενος εὐηγγελίζετο τὰς πόλεις πάσας ἕως τοῦ ἐλθεῖν αὐτὸν εἰς καισάρειαν.
Act 9:1 And Saul, yet breathing out threatenings and slaughter against the disciples of the Lord, went unto the high priest, Act 9:1 Now Saul, still breathing threats and murder against the disciples of the Lord, went to the high priest, Act|9|1|ὁ δὲ σαῦλος, ἔτι ἐμπνέων ἀπειλῆς καὶ φόνου εἰς τοὺς μαθητὰς τοῦ κυρίου, προσελθὼν τῶ ἀρχιερεῖ
Act 9:2 And desired of him letters to Damascus to the synagogues, that if he found any of this way, whether they were men or women, he might bring them bound unto Jerusalem. Act 9:2 and asked for letters from him to the synagogues at Damascus, so that if he found any belonging to the Way, both men and women, he might bring them bound to Jerusalem. Act|9|2|ᾐτήσατο παρ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἐπιστολὰς εἰς δαμασκὸν πρὸς τὰς συναγωγάς, ὅπως ἐάν τινας εὕρῃ τῆς ὁδοῦ ὄντας, ἄνδρας τε καὶ γυναῖκας, δεδεμένους ἀγάγῃ εἰς ἰερουσαλήμ.
Act 9:3 And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: Act 9:3 As he was traveling, it happened that he was approaching Damascus, and suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him; Act|9|3|ἐν δὲ τῶ πορεύεσθαι ἐγένετο αὐτὸν ἐγγίζειν τῇ δαμασκῶ, ἐξαίφνης τε αὐτὸν περιήστραψεν φῶς ἐκ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ,
Act 9:4 And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? Act 9:4 and he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying to him," Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting Me?" Act|9|4|καὶ πεσὼν ἐπὶ τὴν γῆν ἤκουσεν φωνὴν λέγουσαν αὐτῶ, σαοὺλ σαούλ, τί με διώκεις;
Act 9:5 And he said, Who art thou, Lord? And the Lord said, I am Jesus whom thou persecutest: it is hard for thee to kick against the pricks. Act 9:5 And he said," Who are You, Lord?" And He said," I am Jesus whom you are persecuting, Act|9|5|εἶπεν δέ, τίς εἶ, κύριε; ὁ δέ, ἐγώ εἰμι ἰησοῦς ὃν σὺ διώκεις·
Act 9:6 And he trembling and astonished said, Lord, what wilt thou have me to do? And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the city, and it shall be told thee what thou must do. Act 9:6 but get up and enter the city, and it will be told you what you must do." Act|9|6|ἀλλὰ ἀνάστηθι καὶ εἴσελθε εἰς τὴν πόλιν, καὶ λαληθήσεταί σοι ὅ τί σε δεῖ ποιεῖν.
Act 9:7 And the men which journeyed with him stood speechless, hearing a voice, but seeing no man. Act 9:7 The men who traveled with him stood speechless, hearing the voice but seeing no one. Act|9|7|οἱ δὲ ἄνδρες οἱ συνοδεύοντες αὐτῶ εἱστήκεισαν ἐνεοί, ἀκούοντες μὲν τῆς φωνῆς μηδένα δὲ θεωροῦντες.
Act 9:8 And Saul arose from the earth; and when his eyes were opened, he saw no man: but they led him by the hand, and brought him into Damascus. Act 9:8 Saul got up from the ground, and though his eyes were open, he could see nothing; and leading him by the hand, they brought him into Damascus. Act 9:10 And there was a certain disciple at Damascus, named Ananias; and to him said the Lord in a vision, Ananias. And he said, Behold, I am here, Lord. Act 9:10 Now there was a disciple at Damascus named Ananias; and the Lord said to him in a vision," Ananias." And he said," Here I am, Lord." Act 9:12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. Act 9:12 and he has seen in a vision a man named Ananias come in and lay his hands on him, so that he might regain his sight." Act 9:13 Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: Act 9:13 But Ananias answered," Lord, I have heard from many about this man, how much harm he did to Your saints at Jerusalem; Act|9|13|ἀπεκρίθη δὲ ἁνανίας, κύριε, ἤκουσα ἀπὸ πολλῶν περὶ τοῦ ἀνδρὸς τούτου, ὅσα κακὰ τοῖς ἁγίοις σου ἐποίησεν ἐν ἰερουσαλήμ·
Act 9:14 And here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name. Act 9:14 and here he has authority from the chief priests to bind all who call on Your name." Act|9|14|καὶ ὧδε ἔχει ἐξουσίαν παρὰ τῶν ἀρχιερέων δῆσαι πάντας τοὺς ἐπικαλουμένους τὸ ὄνομά σου.
Act 9:15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: Act 9:15 But the Lord said to him," Go, for he is a chosen instrument of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel; Act|9|15|εἶπεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτὸν ὁ κύριος, πορεύου, ὅτι σκεῦος ἐκλογῆς ἐστίν μοι οὖτος τοῦ βαστάσαι τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐνώπιον ἐθνῶν τε καὶ βασιλέων υἱῶν τε ἰσραήλ·

Act 9:17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost. Act 9:17 So Ananias departed and entered the house, and after laying his hands on him said," Brother Saul, the Lord Jesus, who appeared to you on the road by which you were coming, has sent me so that you may regain your sight and be filled with the Holy Spirit." Act 9:18 And immediately there fell from his eyes as it had been scales: and he received sight forthwith, and arose, and was baptized. Act 9:19 And when he had received meat, he was strengthened. Then was Saul certain days with the disciples which were at Damascus. Act 9:19 and he took food and was strengthened. Now for several days he was with the disciples who were at Damascus, Act|9|19|καὶ λαβὼν τροφὴν ἐνίσχυσεν. ἐγένετο δὲ μετὰ τῶν ἐν δαμασκῶ μαθητῶν ἡμέρας τινάς,
Act 9:20 And straightway he preached Christ in the synagogues, that he is the Son of God. Act 9:20 and immediately he began to proclaim Jesus in the synagogues, saying," He is the Son of God." Act|9|20|καὶ εὐθέως ἐν ταῖς συναγωγαῖς ἐκήρυσσεν τὸν ἰησοῦν ὅτι οὖτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς τοῦ θεοῦ.
Act 9:21 But all that heard him were amazed, and said; Is not this he that destroyed them which called on this name in Jerusalem, and came hither for that intent, that he might bring them bound unto the chief priests? Act 9:21 All those hearing him continued to be amazed, and were saying," Is this not he who in Jerusalem destroyed those who called on this name, and who had come here for the purpose of bringing them bound before the chief priests?" Act|9|21|ἐξίσταντο δὲ πάντες οἱ ἀκούοντες καὶ ἔλεγον, οὐχ οὖτός ἐστιν ὁ πορθήσας εἰς ἰερουσαλὴμ τοὺς ἐπικαλουμένους τὸ ὄνομα τοῦτο, καὶ ὧδε εἰς τοῦτο ἐληλύθει ἵνα δεδεμένους αὐτοὺς ἀγάγῃ ἐπὶ τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς;
Act 9:22 But Saul increased the more in strength, and confounded the Jews which dwelt at Damascus, proving that this is very Christ. Act 9:22 But Saul kept increasing in strength and confounding the Jews who lived at Damascus by proving that this Jesus is the Christ. Act|9|22|σαῦλος δὲ μᾶλλον ἐνεδυναμοῦτο καὶ συνέχυννεν [τοὺς] ἰουδαίους τοὺς κατοικοῦντας ἐν δαμασκῶ, συμβιβάζων ὅτι οὖτός ἐστιν ὁ χριστός.
Act 9:23 And after that many days were fulfilled, the Jews took counsel to kill him: Act 9:23 When many days had elapsed, the Jews plotted together to do away with him, Act|9|23|ὡς δὲ ἐπληροῦντο ἡμέραι ἱκαναί, συνεβουλεύσαντο οἱ ἰουδαῖοι ἀνελεῖν αὐτόν·
Act 9:24 But their laying await was known of Saul. And they watched the gates day and night to kill him. Act 9:24 but their plot became known to Saul. They were also watching the gates day and night so that they might put him to death; Act|9|24|ἐγνώσθη δὲ τῶ σαύλῳ ἡ ἐπιβουλὴ αὐτῶν. παρετηροῦντο δὲ καὶ τὰς πύλας ἡμέρας τε καὶ νυκτὸς ὅπως αὐτὸν ἀνέλωσιν·
Act 9:25 Then the disciples took him by night, and let him down by the wall in a basket. Act 9:25 but his disciples took him by night and let him down through an opening in the wall, lowering him in a large basket. Act|9|25|λαβόντες δὲ οἱ μαθηταὶ αὐτοῦ νυκτὸς διὰ τοῦ τείχους καθῆκαν αὐτὸν χαλάσαντες ἐν σπυρίδι.
Act 9:26 And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple. Act 9:26 When he came to Jerusalem, he was trying to associate with the disciples; but they were all afraid of him, not believing that he was a disciple. Act 9:27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus. Act 9:27 But Barnabas took hold of him and brought him to the apostles and described to them how he had seen the Lord on the road, and that He had talked to him, and how at Damascus he had spoken out boldly in the name of Jesus. Act 9:28 And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem. Act 9:28 And he was with them, moving about freely in Jerusalem, speaking out boldly in the name of the Lord. Act|9|28|καὶ ἦν μετ᾽ αὐτῶν εἰσπορευόμενος καὶ ἐκπορευόμενος εἰς ἰερουσαλήμ, παρρησιαζόμενος ἐν τῶ ὀνόματι τοῦ κυρίου,
Act 9:29 And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him. Act 9:30 Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus. Act 9:30 But when the brethren learned of it, they brought him down to Caesarea and sent him away to Tarsus. Act|9|30|ἐπιγνόντες δὲ οἱ ἀδελφοὶ κατήγαγον αὐτὸν εἰς καισάρειαν καὶ ἐξαπέστειλαν αὐτὸν εἰς ταρσόν.
Act 9:31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied. Act 9:31 So the church throughout all Judea and Galilee and Samaria enjoyed peace, being built up; and going on in the fear of the Lord and in the comfort of the Holy Spirit, it continued to increase. Act|9|31|ἡ μὲν οὗν ἐκκλησία καθ᾽ ὅλης τῆς ἰουδαίας καὶ γαλιλαίας καὶ σαμαρείας εἶχεν εἰρήνην, οἰκοδομουμένη καὶ πορευομένη τῶ φόβῳ τοῦ κυρίου, καὶ τῇ παρακλήσει τοῦ ἁγίου πνεύματος ἐπληθύνετο.
Act 9:32 And it came to pass, as Peter passed throughout all quarters, he came down also to the saints which dwelt at Lydda. Act 9:32 Now as Peter was traveling through all those regions, he came down also to the saints who lived at Lydda. Act|9|32|ἐγένετο δὲ πέτρον διερχόμενον διὰ πάντων κατελθεῖν καὶ πρὸς τοὺς ἁγίους τοὺς κατοικοῦντας λύδδα.
Act 9:33 And there he found a certain man named Aeneas, which had kept his bed eight years, and was sick of the palsy. Act 9:33 There he found a man named Aeneas, who had been bedridden eight years, for he was paralyzed. Act|9|33|εὖρεν δὲ ἐκεῖ ἄνθρωπόν τινα ὀνόματι αἰνέαν ἐξ ἐτῶν ὀκτὼ κατακείμενον ἐπὶ κραβάττου, ὃς ἦν παραλελυμένος.
Act 9:34 And Peter said unto him, Aeneas, Jesus Christ maketh thee whole: arise, and make thy bed. And he arose immediately. Act 9:34 Peter said to him," Aeneas, Jesus Christ heals you; get up and make your bed." Immediately he got up. Act|9|34|καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῶ ὁ πέτρος, αἰνέα, ἰᾶταί σε ἰησοῦς χριστός· ἀνάστηθι καὶ στρῶσον σεαυτῶ. καὶ εὐθέως ἀνέστη.
Act 9:35 And all that dwelt at Lydda and Saron saw him, and turned to the Lord. Act 9:35 And all who lived at Lydda and Sharon saw him, and they turned to the Lord. Act|9|35|καὶ εἶδαν αὐτὸν πάντες οἱ κατοικοῦντες λύδδα καὶ τὸν σαρῶνα, οἵτινες ἐπέστρεψαν ἐπὶ τὸν κύριον.
Act 9:36 Now there was at Joppa a certain disciple named Tabitha, which by interpretation is called Dorcas: this woman was full of good works and almsdeeds which she did. Act 9:36 Now in Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (which translated in Greek is called Dorcas); this woman was abounding with deeds of kindness and charity which she continually did. Act|9|36|ἐν ἰόππῃ δέ τις ἦν μαθήτρια ὀνόματι ταβιθά, ἣ διερμηνευομένη λέγεται δορκάς· αὕτη ἦν πλήρης ἔργων ἀγαθῶν καὶ ἐλεημοσυνῶν ὧν ἐποίει.
Act 9:37 And it came to pass in those days, that she was sick, and died: whom when they had washed, they laid her in an upper chamber. Act 9:37 And it happened at that time that she fell sick and died; and when they had washed her body, they laid it in an upper room. Act|9|37|ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις ἐκείναις ἀσθενήσασαν αὐτὴν ἀποθανεῖν· λούσαντες δὲ ἔθηκαν [αὐτὴν] ἐν ὑπερῴῳ.
Act 9:38 And forasmuch as Lydda was nigh to Joppa, and the disciples had heard that Peter was there, they sent unto him two men, desiring him that he would not delay to come to them. Act 9:38 Since Lydda was near Joppa, the disciples, having heard that Peter was there, sent two men to him, imploring him," Do not delay in coming to us." Act|9|38|ἐγγὺς δὲ οὔσης λύδδας τῇ ἰόππῃ οἱ μαθηταὶ ἀκούσαντες ὅτι πέτρος ἐστὶν ἐν αὐτῇ ἀπέστειλαν δύο ἄνδρας πρὸς αὐτὸν παρακαλοῦντες, μὴ ὀκνήσῃς διελθεῖν ἕως ἡμῶν.
Act 9:39 Then Peter arose and went with them. When he was come, they brought him into the upper chamber: and all the widows stood by him weeping, and shewing the coats and garments which Dorcas made, while she was with them. Act 9:39 So Peter arose and went with them. When he arrived, they brought him into the upper room; and all the widows stood beside him, weeping and showing all the tunics and garments that Dorcas used to make while she was with them. Act 9:40 But Peter put them all forth, and kneeled down, and prayed; and turning him to the body said, Tabitha, arise. And she opened her eyes: and when she saw Peter, she sat up. Act 9:40 But Peter sent them all out and knelt down and prayed, and turning to the body, he said," Tabitha, arise." And she opened her eyes, and when she saw Peter, she sat up. Act 9:41 And he gave her his hand, and lifted her up, and when he had called the saints and widows, presented her alive. Act 9:41 And he gave her his hand and raised her up; and calling the saints and widows, he presented her alive. Act 9:43 And it came to pass, that he tarried many days in Joppa with one Simon a tanner. Act 9:43 And Peter stayed many days in Joppa with a tanner named Simon. Act|9|43|ἐγένετο δὲ ἡμέρας ἱκανὰς μεῖναι ἐν ἰόππῃ παρά τινι σίμωνι βυρσεῖ.
