Day - 321 - Acts 14-15
Act 14:1 And it came to pass in Iconium, that they went both together into the synagogue of the Jews, and so spake, that a great multitude both of the Jews and also of the Greeks believed. Act 14:1 In Iconium they entered the synagogue of the Jews together, and spoke in such a manner that a large number of people believed, both of Jews and of Greeks. Act|14|1|ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν ἰκονίῳ κατὰ τὸ αὐτὸ εἰσελθεῖν αὐτοὺς εἰς τὴν συναγωγὴν τῶν ἰουδαίων καὶ λαλῆσαι οὕτως ὥστε πιστεῦσαι ἰουδαίων τε καὶ ἑλλήνων πολὺ πλῆθος.
Act 14:2 But the unbelieving Jews stirred up the Gentiles, and made their minds evil affected against the brethren. Act 14:2 But the Jews who disbelieved stirred up the minds of the Gentiles and embittered them against the brethren. Act 14:3 Long time therefore abode they speaking boldly in the Lord, which gave testimony unto the word of his grace, and granted signs and wonders to be done by their hands. Act 14:3 Therefore they spent a long time there speaking boldly with reliance upon the Lord, who was testifying to the word of His grace, granting that signs and wonders be done by their hands. Act 14:4 But the multitude of the city was divided: and part held with the Jews, and part with the apostles. Act 14:4 But the people of the city were divided; and some sided with the Jews, and some with the apostles. Act 14:6 They were ware of it, and fled unto Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and unto the region that lieth round about: Act 14:6 they became aware of it and fled to the cities of Lycaonia, Lystra and Derbe, and the surrounding region; Act|14|6|συνιδόντες κατέφυγον εἰς τὰς πόλεις τῆς λυκαονίας λύστραν καὶ δέρβην καὶ τὴν περίχωρον,
Act 14:7 And there they preached the gospel. Act 14:7 and there they continued to preach the gospel. Act|14|7|κἀκεῖ εὐαγγελιζόμενοι ἦσαν.
Act 14:8 And there sat a certain man at Lystra, impotent in his feet, being a cripple from his mother's womb, who never had walked: Act 14:8 At Lystra a man was sitting who had no strength in his feet, lame from his mother's womb, who had never walked. Act|14|8|καί τις ἀνὴρ ἀδύνατος ἐν λύστροις τοῖς ποσὶν ἐκάθητο, χωλὸς ἐκ κοιλίας μητρὸς αὐτοῦ, ὃς οὐδέποτε περιεπάτησεν.
Act 14:9 The same heard Paul speak: who stedfastly beholding him, and perceiving that he had faith to be healed, Act 14:9 This man was listening to Paul as he spoke, who, when he had fixed his gaze on him and had seen that he had faith to be made well, Act|14|9|οὖτος ἤκουσεν τοῦ παύλου λαλοῦντος· ὃς ἀτενίσας αὐτῶ καὶ ἰδὼν ὅτι ἔχει πίστιν τοῦ σωθῆναι
Act 14:10 Said with a loud voice, Stand upright on thy feet. And he leaped and walked. Act 14:10 said with a loud voice," Stand upright on your feet." And he leaped up and began to walk. Act|14|10|εἶπεν μεγάλῃ φωνῇ, ἀνάστηθι ἐπὶ τοὺς πόδας σου ὀρθός. καὶ ἥλατο καὶ περιεπάτει.
Act 14:11 And when the people saw what Paul had done, they lifted up their voices, saying in the speech of Lycaonia, The gods are come down to us in the likeness of men. Act 14:11 When the crowds saw what Paul had done, they raised their voice, saying in the Lycaonian language," The gods have become like men and have come down to us." Act 14:12 And they called Barnabas, Jupiter; and Paul, Mercurius, because he was the chief speaker. Act 14:12 And they began calling Barnabas, Zeus, and Paul, Hermes, because he was the chief speaker. Act|14|12|ἐκάλουν τε τὸν βαρναβᾶν δία, τὸν δὲ παῦλον ἑρμῆν, ἐπειδὴ αὐτὸς ἦν ὁ ἡγούμενος τοῦ λόγου.
Act 14:13 Then the priest of Jupiter, which was before their city, brought oxen and garlands unto the gates, and would have done sacrifice with the people. Act 14:13 The priest of Zeus, whose temple was just outside the city, brought oxen and garlands to the gates, and wanted to offer sacrifice with the crowds. Act|14|13|ὅ τε ἱερεὺς τοῦ διὸς τοῦ ὄντος πρὸ τῆς πόλεως ταύρους καὶ στέμματα ἐπὶ τοὺς πυλῶνας ἐνέγκας σὺν τοῖς ὄχλοις ἤθελεν θύειν.
Act 14:14 Which when the apostles, Barnabas and Paul, heard of, they rent their clothes, and ran in among the people, crying out, Act 14:14 But when the apostles Barnabas and Paul heard of it, they tore their robes and rushed out into the crowd, crying out Act|14|14|ἀκούσαντες δὲ οἱ ἀπόστολοι βαρναβᾶς καὶ παῦλος, διαρρήξαντες τὰ ἱμάτια αὐτῶν ἐξεπήδησαν εἰς τὸν ὄχλον, κράζοντες
Act 14:15 And saying, Sirs, why do ye these things? We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein: Act 14:15 and saying," Men, why are you doing these things? We are also men of the same nature as you, and preach the gospel to you that you should turn from these vain things to a living God, who made the heaven and the earth and the sea and all that is in them. Act|14|15|καὶ λέγοντες, ἄνδρες, τί ταῦτα ποιεῖτε; καὶ ἡμεῖς ὁμοιοπαθεῖς ἐσμεν ὑμῖν ἄνθρωποι, εὐαγγελιζόμενοι ὑμᾶς ἀπὸ τούτων τῶν ματαίων ἐπιστρέφειν ἐπὶ θεὸν ζῶντα ὃς ἐποίησεν τὸν οὐρανὸν καὶ τὴν γῆν καὶ τὴν θάλασσαν καὶ πάντα τὰ ἐν αὐτοῖς·
Act 14:16 Who in times past suffered all nations to walk in their own ways. Act 14:16 In the generations gone by He permitted all the nations to go their own ways; Act|14|16|ὃς ἐν ταῖς παρῳχημέναις γενεαῖς εἴασεν πάντα τὰ ἔθνη πορεύεσθαι ταῖς ὁδοῖς αὐτῶν·
Act 14:17 Nevertheless he left not himself without witness, in that he did good, and gave us rain from heaven, and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness. Act 14:17 and yet He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good and gave you rains from heaven and fruitful seasons, satisfying your hearts with food and gladness." Act|14|17|καίτοι οὐκ ἀμάρτυρον αὐτὸν ἀφῆκεν ἀγαθουργῶν, οὐρανόθεν ὑμῖν ὑετοὺς διδοὺς καὶ καιροὺς καρποφόρους, ἐμπιπλῶν τροφῆς καὶ εὐφροσύνης τὰς καρδίας ὑμῶν.
Act 14:18 And with these sayings scarce restrained they the people, that they had not done sacrifice unto them. Act 14:18 Even saying these things, with difficulty they restrained the crowds from offering sacrifice to them. Act|14|18|καὶ ταῦτα λέγοντες μόλις κατέπαυσαν τοὺς ὄχλους τοῦ μὴ θύειν αὐτοῖς.
Act 14:19 And there came thither certain Jews from Antioch and Iconium, who persuaded the people, and having stoned Paul, drew him out of the city, supposing he had been dead. Act 14:20 Howbeit, as the disciples stood round about him, he rose up, and came into the city: and the next day he departed with Barnabas to Derbe. Act 14:21 And when they had preached the gospel to that city, and had taught many, they returned again to Lystra, and to Iconium, and Antioch, Act 14:21 After they had preached the gospel to that city and had made many disciples, they returned to Lystra and to Iconium and to Antioch, Act|14|21|εὐαγγελισάμενοί τε τὴν πόλιν ἐκείνην καὶ μαθητεύσαντες ἱκανοὺς ὑπέστρεψαν εἰς τὴν λύστραν καὶ εἰς ἰκόνιον καὶ εἰς ἀντιόχειαν,
Act 14:22 Confirming the souls of the disciples, and exhorting them to continue in the faith, and that we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God. Act 14:22 strengthening the souls of the disciples, encouraging them to continue in the faith, and saying," Through many tribulations we must enter the kingdom of God." Act|14|22|ἐπιστηρίζοντες τὰς ψυχὰς τῶν μαθητῶν, παρακαλοῦντες ἐμμένειν τῇ πίστει, καὶ ὅτι διὰ πολλῶν θλίψεων δεῖ ἡμᾶς εἰσελθεῖν εἰς τὴν βασιλείαν τοῦ θεοῦ.
Act 14:23 And when they had ordained them elders in every church, and had prayed with fasting, they commended them to the Lord, on whom they believed. Act 14:26 And thence sailed to Antioch, from whence they had been recommended to the grace of God for the work which they fulfilled. Act 14:27 And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all that God had done with them, and how he had opened the door of faith unto the Gentiles. Act 15:1 And certain men which came down from Judaea taught the brethren, and said, Except ye be circumcised after the manner of Moses, ye cannot be saved. Act 15:1 Some men came down from Judea and began teaching the brethren," Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved." Act|15|1|καί τινες κατελθόντες ἀπὸ τῆς ἰουδαίας ἐδίδασκον τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς ὅτι ἐὰν μὴ περιτμηθῆτε τῶ ἔθει τῶ μωϊσέως, οὐ δύνασθε σωθῆναι.
Act 15:2 When therefore Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and disputation with them, they determined that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question. Act 15:2 And when Paul and Barnabas had great dissension and debate with them, the brethren determined that Paul and Barnabas and some others of them should go up to Jerusalem to the apostles and elders concerning this issue. Act 15:3 And being brought on their way by the church, they passed through Phenice and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren. Act 15:3 Therefore, being sent on their way by the church, they were passing through both Phoenicia and Samaria, describing in detail the conversion of the Gentiles, and were bringing great joy to all the brethren. Act 15:4 And when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church, and of the apostles and elders, and they declared all things that God had done with them. Act 15:5 But there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees which believed, saying, That it was needful to circumcise them, and to command them to keep the law of Moses. Act 15:6 And the apostles and elders came together for to consider of this matter. Act 15:6 The apostles and the elders came together to look into this matter. Act|15|6|συνήχθησάν τε οἱ ἀπόστολοι καὶ οἱ πρεσβύτεροι ἰδεῖν περὶ τοῦ λόγου τούτου.
Act 15:7 And when there had been much disputing, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Men and brethren, ye know how that a good while ago God made choice among us, that the Gentiles by my mouth should hear the word of the gospel, and believe. Act 15:7 After there had been much debate, Peter stood up and said to them," Brethren, you know that in the early days God made a choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles would hear the word of the gospel and believe. Act|15|7|πολλῆς δὲ ζητήσεως γενομένης ἀναστὰς πέτρος εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς, ἄνδρες ἀδελφοί, ὑμεῖς ἐπίστασθε ὅτι ἀφ᾽ ἡμερῶν ἀρχαίων ἐν ὑμῖν ἐξελέξατο ὁ θεὸς διὰ τοῦ στόματός μου ἀκοῦσαι τὰ ἔθνη τὸν λόγον τοῦ εὐαγγελίου καὶ πιστεῦσαι·
Act 15:8 And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; Act 15:8 And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us; Act|15|8|καὶ ὁ καρδιογνώστης θεὸς ἐμαρτύρησεν αὐτοῖς δοὺς τὸ πνεῦμα τὸ ἅγιον καθὼς καὶ ἡμῖν,

Act 15:10 Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? Act 15:10 Now therefore why do you put God to the test by placing upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? Act 15:11 But we believe that through the grace of the LORD Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. Act 15:11 But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they also are." Act 15:12 Then all the multitude kept silence, and gave audience to Barnabas and Paul, declaring what miracles and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles by them. Act 15:12 All the people kept silent, and they were listening to Barnabas and Paul as they were relating what signs and wonders God had done through them among the Gentiles. Act 15:13 And after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Men and brethren, hearken unto me: Act 15:13 After they had stopped speaking, James answered, saying," Brethren, listen to me. Act|15|13|μετὰ δὲ τὸ σιγῆσαι αὐτοὺς ἀπεκρίθη ἰάκωβος λέγων, ἄνδρες ἀδελφοί, ἀκούσατέ μου.
Act 15:14 Simeon hath declared how God at the first did visit the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name. Act 15:14 Simeon has related how God first concerned Himself about taking from among the Gentiles a people for His name. Act|15|14|συμεὼν ἐξηγήσατο καθὼς πρῶτον ὁ θεὸς ἐπεσκέψατο λαβεῖν ἐξ ἐθνῶν λαὸν τῶ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ.
Act 15:15 And to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written, Act 15:15 With this the words of the Prophets agree, just as it is written, Act|15|15|καὶ τούτῳ συμφωνοῦσιν οἱ λόγοι τῶν προφητῶν, καθὼς γέγραπται,
Act 15:16 After this I will return, and will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen down; and I will build again the ruins thereof, and I will set it up: Act 15:16 'After these things I will return, And I will rebuild the tabernacle of David which has fallen, And I will rebuild its ruins, And I will restore it, Act|15|16|μετὰ ταῦτα ἀναστρέψω καὶ ἀνοικοδομήσω τὴν σκηνὴν δαυὶδ τὴν πεπτωκυῖαν, καὶ τὰ κατεσκαμμένα αὐτῆς ἀνοικοδομήσω καὶ ἀνορθώσω αὐτήν,
Act 15:17 That the residue of men might seek after the Lord, and all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called, saith the Lord, who doeth all these things. Act 15:17 So that the rest of mankind may seek the Lord, And all the Gentiles who are called by My name, ' Act|15|17|ὅπως ἂν ἐκζητήσωσιν οἱ κατάλοιποι τῶν ἀνθρώπων τὸν κύριον, καὶ πάντα τὰ ἔθνη ἐφ᾽ οὓς ἐπικέκληται τὸ ὄνομά μου ἐπ᾽ αὐτούς, λέγει κύριος ποιῶν ταῦτα
Act 15:18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world. Act 15:18 Says the Lord, who makes these things known from long ago. Act|15|18|γνωστὰ ἀπ᾽ αἰῶνος.
Act 15:19 Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God: Act 15:19 Therefore it is my judgment that we do not trouble those who are turning to God from among the Gentiles, Act|15|19|διὸ ἐγὼ κρίνω μὴ παρενοχλεῖν τοῖς ἀπὸ τῶν ἐθνῶν ἐπιστρέφουσιν ἐπὶ τὸν θεόν,
Act 15:20 But that we write unto them, that they abstain from pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from things strangled, and from blood. Act 15:20 but that we write to them that they abstain from things contaminated by idols and from fornication and from what is strangled and from blood. Act|15|20|ἀλλὰ ἐπιστεῖλαι αὐτοῖς τοῦ ἀπέχεσθαι τῶν ἀλισγημάτων τῶν εἰδώλων καὶ τῆς πορνείας καὶ τοῦ πνικτοῦ καὶ τοῦ αἵματος·
Act 15:21 For Moses of old time hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath day. Act 15:21 For Moses from ancient generations has in every city those who preach him, since he is read in the synagogues every Sabbath." Act 15:23 And they wrote letters by them after this manner; The apostles and elders and brethren send greeting unto the brethren which are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia. Act 15:23 and they sent this letter by them," The apostles and the brethren who are elders, to the brethren in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia who are from the Gentiles, greetings. Act 15:24 Forasmuch as we have heard, that certain which went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls, saying, Ye must be circumcised, and keep the law: to whom we gave no such commandment: Act 15:24 "Since we have heard that some of our number to whom we gave no instruction have disturbed you with their words, unsettling your souls, Act|15|24|ἐπειδὴ ἠκούσαμεν ὅτι τινὲς ἐξ ἡμῶν [ἐξελθόντες] ἐτάραξαν ὑμᾶς λόγοις ἀνασκευάζοντες τὰς ψυχὰς ὑμῶν, οἷς οὐ διεστειλάμεθα,

Act 15:27 We have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who shall also tell you the same things by mouth. Act 15:29 That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which if ye keep yourselves, ye shall do well. Fare ye well. Act 15:29 that you abstain from things sacrificed to idols and from blood and from things strangled and from fornication; if you keep yourselves free from such things, you will do well. Farewell." Act 15:30 So when they were dismissed, they came to Antioch: and when they had gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle: Act 15:30 So when they were sent away, they went down to Antioch; and having gathered the congregation together, they delivered the letter. Act 15:32 And Judas and Silas, being prophets also themselves, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them. Act 15:33 And after they had tarried there a space, they were let go in peace from the brethren unto the apostles. Act 15:33 After they had spent time there, they were sent away from the brethren in peace to those who had sent them out. Act|15|33|ποιήσαντες δὲ χρόνον ἀπελύθησαν μετ᾽ εἰρήνης ἀπὸ τῶν ἀδελφῶν πρὸς τοὺς ἀποστείλαντας αὐτούς.
Act 15:34 Notwithstanding it pleased Silas to abide there still. Act 15:34 [ But it seemed good to Silas to remain there. ] Act|15|34|
Act 15:35 Paul also and Barnabas continued in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also. Act 15:36 And some days after Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us go again and visit our brethren in every city where we have preached the word of the LORD, and see how they do. Act 15:36 After some days Paul said to Barnabas," Let us return and visit the brethren in every city in which we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they are." Act|15|36|μετὰ δέ τινας ἡμέρας εἶπεν πρὸς βαρναβᾶν παῦλος, ἐπιστρέψαντες δὴ ἐπισκεψώμεθα τοὺς ἀδελφοὺς κατὰ πόλιν πᾶσαν ἐν αἷς κατηγγείλαμεν τὸν λόγον τοῦ κυρίου, πῶς ἔχουσιν.
Act 15:37 And Barnabas determined to take with them John, whose surname was Mark. Act 15:37 Barnabas wanted to take John, called Mark, along with them also. Act|15|37|βαρναβᾶς δὲ ἐβούλετο συμπαραλαβεῖν καὶ τὸν ἰωάννην τὸν καλούμενον μᾶρκον·
Act 15:38 But Paul thought not good to take him with them, who departed from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work. Act 15:38 But Paul kept insisting that they should not take him along who had deserted them in Pamphylia and had not gone with them to the work. Act|15|38|παῦλος δὲ ἠξίου τὸν ἀποστάντα ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν ἀπὸ παμφυλίας καὶ μὴ συνελθόντα αὐτοῖς εἰς τὸ ἔργον μὴ συμπαραλαμβάνειν τοῦτον.
Act 15:39 And the contention was so sharp between them, that they departed asunder one from the other: and so Barnabas took Mark, and sailed unto Cyprus; Act 15:39 And there occurred such a sharp disagreement that they separated from one another, and Barnabas took Mark with him and sailed away to Cyprus. Act|15|39|ἐγένετο δὲ παροξυσμὸς ὥστε ἀποχωρισθῆναι αὐτοὺς ἀπ᾽ ἀλλήλων, τόν τε βαρναβᾶν παραλαβόντα τὸν μᾶρκον ἐκπλεῦσαι εἰς κύπρον.
Act 15:40 And Paul chose Silas, and departed, being recommended by the brethren unto the grace of God. Act 15:40 But Paul chose Silas and left, being committed by the brethren to the grace of the Lord. Act|15|40|παῦλος δὲ ἐπιλεξάμενος σιλᾶν ἐξῆλθεν παραδοθεὶς τῇ χάριτι τοῦ κυρίου ὑπὸ τῶν ἀδελφῶν,
Act 15:41 And he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches. Act 15:41 And he was traveling through Syria and Cilicia, strengthening the churches. Act|15|41|διήρχετο δὲ τὴν συρίαν καὶ [τὴν] κιλικίαν ἐπιστηρίζων τὰς ἐκκλησίας.
