cleaning intake manifold - 2003 - Jetta TDI - ALH with egr cooler
TDI has 155,000 miles, apparently the first time the intake has ever been cleaned...
you look at the engine and all looks nice and clean...

doesn't look too bad when I pulled the hose off the intake from the intercooler...

then I pulled the EGR valve off and opened it up... wow...
this is some serious crud...
how could this thing run and still give over 40mpg like this???

this is the lame video I took of the cleaning by fire. It is a large file... click here.
youtube versions below are better...
the two youtube videos that showed how to do it...
use a wet rag to keep manifold cool, but the
heat wasn't bad enough to melt it... one video doesn't use one.
