Israël sortit à la rencontre des Philistins, pour combattre. When the battle spread, Israel was defeated before the Philistines who killed about four thousand men on the battlefield.(nasb) ======= 1 Samuel 4:3 ============ 1Sa 4:3 And when the people were come into the camp, the elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the LORD smitten us to day before the Philistines? Let us fetch the ark of the covenant of the LORD out of Shiloh unto us, that, when it cometh among us, it may save us out of the hand of our enemies.(KJV) 1 Samuel 4:3 So when the people were come into the campe, the Elders of Israel said, Wherefore hath the Lorde smitten vs this day before ye Philistims? let vs bring the Arke of the couenant of the Lord out of Shiloh vnto vs, that when it commeth among vs, it may saue vs out of the hande of our enemies.(Geneva) 1 Samuel 4:3 Le peuple rentra au camp, et les anciens d'Israël dirent: Pourquoi l'Eternel nous a-t-il laissé battre aujourd'hui par les Philistins? Let us take to ourselves from Shiloh the ark of the covenant of the Lord, that it may come among us and deliver us from the power of our enemies."(nasb) ======= 1 Samuel 4:4 ============ 1Sa 4:4 So the people sent to Shiloh, that they might bring from thence the ark of the covenant of the LORD of hosts, which dwelleth between the cherubims: and the two sons of Eli, Hophni and Phinehas, were there with the ark of the covenant of God.(KJV) 1 Samuel 4:4 Then the people sent to Shiloh, & brought from thence the Arke of the couenant of the Lorde of hostes, who dwelleth betweene the Cherubims: and there were the two sonnes of Eli, Hophni, and Phinehas, with the Arke of the couenant of God.(Geneva) 1 Samuel 4:4 Le peuple envoya à Silo, d'où l'on apporta l'arche de l'alliance de l'Eternel des armées qui siège entre les chérubins. And they understood that the ark of the LORD was come into the camp.(KJV) 1 Samuel 4:6 And when the Philistims heard the noyse of the shoute, they said, What meaneth the sound of this mightie shoute in the host of the Ebrewes? and they vnderstoode, that the Arke of the Lord was come into the hoste.(Geneva) 1 Samuel 4:6 Le retentissement de ces cris fut entendu des Philistins, et ils dirent: Que signifient ces grands cris qui retentissent dans le camp des Hébreux? And they said, "Woe to us! Who shall deliver us from the hand of these mighty gods? So the man came to tell it in the city, and all the city cried out.(nasb) ======= 1 Samuel 4:14 ============ 1Sa 4:14 And when Eli heard the noise of the crying, he said, What meaneth the noise of this tumult? And the man came in hastily, and told Eli.(KJV) 1 Samuel 4:14 And when Eli heard the noyse of the crying, he sayd, What meaneth this noyse of the tumult? and the man came in hastily, and tolde Eli.(Geneva) 1 Samuel 4:14 Eli, entendant ces cris, dit: Que signifie ce tumulte? Then the man came hurriedly and told Eli.(nasb) ======= 1 Samuel 4:15 ============ 1Sa 4:15 Now Eli was ninety and eight years old; and his eyes were dim, that he could not see.(KJV) 1 Samuel 4:15 (Nowe Eli was fourescore and eighteene yeere olde, and his eyes were dimme that hee could not see)(Geneva) 1 Samuel 4:15 Or Eli était âgé de quatre-vingt-dix-huit ans, il avait les yeux fixes et ne pouvait plus voir.(FR) 15 ׃4 וְעֵלִ֕י בֶּן־תִּשְׁעִ֥ים וּשְׁמֹנֶ֖ה שָׁנָ֑ה וְעֵינָ֣יו קָ֔מָה וְלֹ֥א יָכ֖וֹל לִרְאֽוֹת׃ Samuel1 1Sa 4:15 Now Eli was ninety-eight years old, and his eyes were set so that he could not see.(nasb) ======= 1 Samuel 4:16 ============ 1Sa 4:16 And the man said unto Eli, I am he that came out of the army, and I fled to day out of the army. And he said, What is there done, my son?(KJV) 1 Samuel 4:16 And the man sayd vnto Eli, I came from the armie, and I fled this day out of the hoste: and he sayd, What thing is done, my sonne?(Geneva) 1 Samuel 4:16 L'homme dit à Eli: J'arrive du champ de bataille, et c'est du champ de bataille que je me suis enfui aujourd'hui. Eli dit: Que s'est-il passé, mon fils?(FR) 16 ׃4 וַיֹּ֨אמֶר הָאִ֜ישׁ אֶל־עֵלִ֗י אָֽנֹכִי֙ הַבָּ֣א מִן־הַמַּעֲרָכָ֔ה וַאֲנִ֕י מִן־הַמַּעֲרָכָ֖ה נַ֣סְתִּי הַיּ֑וֹם וַיֹּ֛אמֶר מֶֽה־הָיָ֥ה הַדָּבָ֖ר בְּנִֽי׃ Samuel1 1Sa 4:16 The man said to Eli, "I am the one who came from the battle line. Indeed, I escaped from the battle line today." And he said, "How did things go, my son?"(nasb) ======= 1 Samuel 4:17 ============ 1Sa 4:17 And the messenger answered and said, Israel is fled before the Philistines, and there hath been also a great slaughter among the people, and thy two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God is taken.(KJV) 1 Samuel 4:17 Then the messenger answered and sayd, Israel is fled before the Philistims, and there hath bene also a great slaughter among the people: and moreouer thy two sonnes, Hophni and Phinehas are dead, and the Arke of God is taken.(Geneva) 1 Samuel 4:17 Celui qui apportait la nouvelle dit en réponse: Israël a fui devant les Philistins, et le peuple a éprouvé une grande défaite; et même tes deux fils, Hophni et Phinées, sont morts, et l'arche de Dieu a été prise.(FR) 17 ׃4 וַיַּ֨עַן הַֽמְבַשֵּׂ֜ר וַיֹּ֗אמֶר נָ֤ס יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ לִפְנֵ֣י פְלִשְׁתִּ֔ים וְגַ֛ם מַגֵּפָ֥ה גְדוֹלָ֖ה הָיְתָ֣ה בָעָ֑ם וְגַם־שְׁנֵ֨י בָנֶ֜יךָ מֵ֗תוּ חָפְנִי֙ וּפִ֣ינְחָ֔ס וַאֲר֥וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֖ים נִלְקָֽחָה׃ פ Samuel1 1Sa 4:17 Then the one who brought the news replied, "Israel has fled before the Philistines and there has also been a great slaughter among the people, and your two sons also, Hophni and Phinehas, are dead, and the ark of God has been taken."(nasb) ======= 1 Samuel 4:18 ============ 1Sa 4:18 And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.(KJV) 1 Samuel 4:18 And when he had made mention of the Arke of God, Eli fell from his seate backward by the side of the gate, and his necke was broken, and he dyed: for he was an olde man and heauie: and he had iudged Israel fourtie yeeres.(Geneva) 1 Samuel 4:18 A peine eut-il fait mention de l'arche de Dieu, qu'Eli tomba de son siège à la renverse, à côté de la porte; il se rompit la nuque et mourut, car c'était un homme vieux et pesant. Il avait été juge en Israël pendant quarante ans.(FR) 18 ׃4 וַיְהִ֞י כְּהַזְכִּיר֣וֹ ׀ אֶת־אֲר֣וֹן הָאֱלֹהִ֗ים וַיִּפֹּ֣ל מֵֽעַל־הַ֠כִּסֵּא אֲחֹ֨רַנִּ֜ית בְּעַ֣ד ׀ יַ֣ד הַשַּׁ֗עַר וַתִּשָּׁבֵ֤ר מַפְרַקְתּוֹ֙ וַיָּמֹ֔ת כִּֽי־זָקֵ֥ן הָאִ֖ישׁ וְכָבֵ֑ד וְה֛וּא שָׁפַ֥ט אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵ֖ל אַרְבָּעִ֥ים שָׁנָֽה׃ Samuel1 1Sa 4:18 When he mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell off the seat backward beside the gate, and his neck was broken and he died, for he was old and heavy.
