and they were in confinement for some time.(nas) Gen 40:4 καὶ συνέστησεν ὁ ἀρχιδεσμώτης τῷ Ιωσηφ αὐτούς καὶ παρέστη αὐτοῖς ἦσαν δὲ ἡμέρας ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ (lxx) Gen 40:4 At custos carceris tradidit eos Joseph, qui et ministrabat eis: aliquantulum temporis fluxerat, et illi in custodia tenebantur.(vulgate) Genesis 40:4 And the chiefe steward gaue Ioseph charge ouer them, and he serued them: and they continued a season in warde.(Geneva) Gen 40:4 Und der Hauptmann setzte Joseph über sie, daß er ihnen diente; und sie saßen etliche Tage im Gefängnis.(dhs) Gen 40:4 And the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he served them; so they were in custody for a while.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:5 ============ Gen 40:5 Then the cupbearer and the baker for the king of Egypt, who were confined in jail, both had a dream the same night, each man with his own dream and each dream with its own interpretation.(nas) Gen 40:5 καὶ εἶδον ἀμφότεροι ἐνύπνιον ἑκάτερος ἐνύπνιον ἐν μιᾷ νυκτὶ ὅρασις τοῦ ἐνυπνίου αὐτοῦ ὁ ἀρχιοινοχόος καὶ ὁ ἀρχισιτοποιός οἳ ἦσαν τῷ βασιλεῖ Αἰγύπτου οἱ ὄντες ἐν τῷ δεσμωτηρίῳ (lxx) Gen 40:5 Videruntque ambo somnium nocte una, juxta interpretationem congruam sibi:(vulgate) Genesis 40:5 And they both dreamed a dreame, eyther of them his dreame in one night, eche one according to the interpretation of his dreame, both the butler and the baker of the King of Egypt, which were bounde in the prison.(Geneva) Gen 40:5 Und es träumte ihnen beiden, dem Schenken und dem Bäcker des Königs von Ägypten, in einer Nacht einem jeglichen ein eigener Traum; und eines jeglichen Traum hatte seine Bedeutung.(dhs) Gen 40:5 Then the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were confined in the prison, had a dream, both of them, each man's dream in one night and each man's dream with its own interpretation.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:6 ============ Gen 40:6 When Joseph came to them in the morning and observed them, behold, they were dejected.(nas) Gen 40:6 εἰσῆλθεν δὲ πρὸς αὐτοὺς Ιωσηφ τὸ πρωὶ καὶ εἶδεν αὐτούς καὶ ἦσαν τεταραγμένοι (lxx) Gen 40:6 ad quos cum introisset Joseph mane, et vidisset eos tristes,(vulgate) Genesis 40:6 And when Ioseph came in vnto them in the morning, and looked vpon them, beholde, they were sad.(Geneva) Gen 40:6 Da nun des Morgens Joseph zu ihnen hereinkam und sah, daß sie traurig waren,(dhs) Gen 40:6 And Joseph came in to them in the morning and looked at them, and saw that they were sad.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:7 ============ Gen 40:7 He asked Pharaoh's officials who were with him in confinement in his master's house, "Why are your faces so sad today?"(nas) Gen 40:7 καὶ ἠρώτα τοὺς εὐνούχους Φαραω οἳ ἦσαν μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῇ φυλακῇ παρὰ τῷ κυρίῳ αὐτοῦ λέγων τί ὅτι τὰ πρόσωπα ὑμῶν σκυθρωπὰ σήμερον (lxx) Gen 40:7 sciscitatus est eos, dicens: Cur tristior est hodie solito facies vestra?(vulgate) Genesis 40:7 And he asked Pharaohs officers, that were with him in his masters warde, saying, Wherefore looke ye so sadly to day?(Geneva) Gen 40:7 fragte er sie und sprach: Warum seid ihr heute so traurig?(dhs) Gen 40:7 So he asked Pharaoh's officers who were with him in the custody of his lord's house, saying, "Why do you look so sad today?"(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:8 ============ Gen 40:8 Then they said to him, "We have had a dream and there is no one to interpret it." Then Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell it to me, please."(nas) Gen 40:8 οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῷ ἐνύπνιον εἴδομεν καὶ ὁ συγκρίνων οὐκ ἔστιν αὐτό εἶπεν δὲ αὐτοῖς Ιωσηφ οὐχὶ διὰ τοῦ θεοῦ ἡ διασάφησις αὐτῶν ἐστιν διηγήσασθε οὖν μοι (lxx) Gen 40:8 Qui responderunt: Somnium vidimus, et non est qui interpretetur nobis. Dixitque ad eos Joseph: Numquid non Dei est interpretatio? referte mihi quid videritis.(vulgate) Genesis 40:8 Who answered him, We haue dreamed, eche one a dreame, and there is none to interprete the same. Then Ioseph saide vnto them, Are not interpretations of God? Tell them me nowe.(Geneva) Gen 40:8 Sie antworteten: Es hat uns geträumt, und wir haben niemand, der es uns auslege. Joseph sprach: Auslegen gehört Gott zu; doch erzählt mir's.(dhs) Gen 40:8 And they said to him, "We each have had a dream, and there is no interpreter of it." So Joseph said to them, "Do not interpretations belong to God? Tell them to me, please."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:9 ============ Gen 40:9 So the chief cupbearer told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, "In my dream, behold, there was a vine in front of me;(nas) Gen 40:9 καὶ διηγήσατο ὁ ἀρχιοινοχόος τὸ ἐνύπνιον αὐτοῦ τῷ Ιωσηφ καὶ εἶπεν ἐν τῷ ὕπνῳ μου ἦν ἄμπελος ἐναντίον μου (lxx) Gen 40:9 Narravit prior, præpositus pincernarum, somnium suum: Videbam coram me vitem,(vulgate) Genesis 40:9 So the chiefe butler tolde his dreame to Ioseph, and said vnto him, In my dreame, behold, a vine was before me,(Geneva) Gen 40:9 Da erzählte der oberste Schenke seinen Traum Joseph und sprach zu ihm: Mir hat geträumt, daß ein Weinstock vor mir wäre,(dhs) Gen 40:9 Then the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, "Behold, in my dream a vine was before me,(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:10 ============ Gen 40:10 and on the vine were three branches. And as it was budding, its blossoms came out, and its clusters produced ripe grapes.(nas) Gen 40:10 ἐν δὲ τῇ ἀμπέλῳ τρεῖς πυθμένες καὶ αὐτὴ θάλλουσα ἀνενηνοχυῖα βλαστούς πέπειροι οἱ βότρυες σταφυλῆς (lxx) Gen 40:10 in qua erant tres propagines, crescere paulatim in gemmas, et post flores uvas maturescere:(vulgate) Genesis 40:10 And in the vine were three branches, and as it budded, her flowre came foorth: and the clusters of grapes waxed ripe.(Geneva) Gen 40:10 der hatte drei Reben, und er grünte, wuchs und blühte, und seine Trauben wurden reif;(dhs) Gen 40:10 and in the vine were three branches; it was as though it budded, its blossoms shot forth, and its clusters brought forth ripe grapes.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:11 ============ Gen 40:11 Now Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; so I took the grapes and squeezed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I put the cup into Pharaoh's hand."(nas) Gen 40:11 καὶ τὸ ποτήριον Φαραω ἐν τῇ χειρί μου καὶ ἔλαβον τὴν σταφυλὴν καὶ ἐξέθλιψα αὐτὴν εἰς τὸ ποτήριον καὶ ἔδωκα τὸ ποτήριον εἰς τὰς χεῖρας Φαραω (lxx) Gen 40:11 calicemque Pharaonis in manu mea: tuli ergo uvas, et expressi in calicem quem tenebam, et tradidi poculum Pharaoni.(vulgate) Genesis 40:11 And I had Pharaohs cup in mine hande, and I tooke the grapes, & wrung the into Pharaohs cup, and I gaue the cup into Pharaohs hand.(Geneva) Gen 40:11 und ich hatte den Becher Pharaos in meiner Hand und nahm die Beeren und zerdrückte sie in den Becher und gab den Becher Pharao in die Hand.(dhs) Gen 40:11 Then Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:12 ============ Gen 40:12 Then Joseph said to him, "This is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days;(nas) Gen 40:12 καὶ εἶπεν αὐτῷ Ιωσηφ τοῦτο ἡ σύγκρισις αὐτοῦ οἱ τρεῖς πυθμένες τρεῖς ἡμέραι εἰσίν (lxx) Gen 40:12 Respondit Joseph: Hæc est interpretatio somnii: tres propagines, tres adhuc dies sunt:(vulgate) Genesis 40:12 Then Ioseph sayde vnto him, This is the interpretation of it: The three braunches are three dayes.(Geneva) Gen 40:12 Joseph sprach zu ihm: Das ist seine Deutung. Drei Reben sind drei Tage.(dhs) Gen 40:12 And Joseph said to him, "This is the interpretation of it: The three branches are three days.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:13 ============ Gen 40:13 within three more days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your office; and you will put Pharaoh's cup into his hand according to your former custom when you were his cupbearer.(nas) Gen 40:13 ἔτι τρεῖς ἡμέραι καὶ μνησθήσεται Φαραω τῆς ἀρχῆς σου καὶ ἀποκαταστήσει σε ἐπὶ τὴν ἀρχιοινοχοΐαν σου καὶ δώσεις τὸ ποτήριον Φαραω εἰς τὴν χεῖρα αὐτοῦ κατὰ τὴν ἀρχήν σου τὴν προτέραν ὡς ἦσθα οἰνοχοῶν (lxx) Gen 40:13 post quos recordabitur Pharao ministerii tui, et restituet te in gradum pristinum: dabisque ei calicem juxta officium tuum, sicut ante facere consueveras.(vulgate) Genesis 40:13 Within three dayes shall Pharaoh lift vp thine head, & restore thee vnto thine office, and thou shalt giue Pharaohs cup into his hand after the olde maner, when thou wast his butler.(Geneva) Gen 40:13 Über drei Tage wird Pharao dein Haupt erheben und dich wieder an dein Amt stellen, daß du ihm den Becher in die Hand gebest nach der vorigen Weise, da du sein Schenke warst.(dhs) Gen 40:13 Now within three days Pharaoh will lift up your head and restore you to your place, and you will put Pharaoh's cup in his hand according to the former manner, when you were his butler.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:14 ============ Gen 40:14 Only keep me in mind when it goes well with you, and please do me a kindness by mentioning me to Pharaoh and get me out of this house.(nas) Gen 40:14 ἀλλὰ μνήσθητί μου διὰ σεαυτοῦ ὅταν εὖ σοι γένηται καὶ ποιήσεις ἐν ἐμοὶ ἔλεος καὶ μνησθήσῃ περὶ ἐμοῦ Φαραω καὶ ἐξάξεις με ἐκ τοῦ ὀχυρώματος τούτου (lxx) Gen 40:14 Tantum memento mei, cum bene tibi fuerit, et facias mecum misericordiam: ut suggeras Pharaoni ut educat me de isto carcere:(vulgate) Genesis 40:14 But haue me in remeberance with thee, when thou art in good case, & shew mercie, I pray thee, vnto me, and make mention of me to Pharaoh, that thou mayest bring me out of this house.(Geneva) Gen 40:14 Aber gedenke meiner, wenn dir's wohl geht, und tue Barmherzigkeit an mir, daß du Pharao erinnerst, daß er mich aus diesem Hause führe.(dhs) Gen 40:14 But remember me when it is well with you, and please show kindness to me; make mention of me to Pharaoh, and get me out of this house.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:15 ============ Gen 40:15 For I was in fact kidnapped from the land of the Hebrews, and even here I have done nothing that they should have put me into the dungeon."(nas) Gen 40:15 ὅτι κλοπῇ ἐκλάπην ἐκ γῆς Εβραίων καὶ ὧδε οὐκ ἐποίησα οὐδέν ἀλλ᾽ ἐνέβαλόν με εἰς τὸν λάκκον τοῦτον (lxx) Gen 40:15 quia furto sublatus sum de terra Hebræorum, et hic innocens in lacum missus sum.(vulgate) Genesis 40:15 For I was stollen away by theft out of the land of the Ebrewes, and here also haue I done nothing, wherefore they should put mee in the dungeon.(Geneva) Gen 40:15 Denn ich bin aus dem Lande der Hebräer heimlich gestohlen; dazu habe ich auch allhier nichts getan, daß sie mich eingesetzt haben.(dhs) Gen 40:15 For indeed I was stolen away from the land of the Hebrews; and also I have done nothing here that they should put me into the dungeon."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:16 ============ Gen 40:16 When the chief baker saw that he had interpreted favorably, he said to Joseph, "I also saw in my dream, and behold, there were three baskets of white bread on my head;(nas) Gen 40:16 καὶ εἶδεν ὁ ἀρχισιτοποιὸς ὅτι ὀρθῶς συνέκρινεν καὶ εἶπεν τῷ Ιωσηφ κἀγὼ εἶδον ἐνύπνιον καὶ ᾤμην τρία κανᾶ χονδριτῶν αἴρειν ἐπὶ τῆς κεφαλῆς μου (lxx) Gen 40:16 Videns pistorum magister quod prudenter somnium dissolvisset, ait: Et ego vidi somnium: quod tria canistra farinæ haberem super caput meum:(vulgate) Genesis 40:16 And when the chiefe baker sawe that the interpretation was good, hee saide vnto Ioseph, Also mee thought in my dreame that I had three white baskets on mine head.(Geneva) Gen 40:16 Da der oberste Bäcker sah, daß die Deutung gut war, sprach er zu Joseph: Mir hat auch geträumt, ich trüge drei weiße Körbe auf meinem Haupt(dhs) Gen 40:16 When the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said to Joseph, "I also was in my dream, and there were three white baskets on my head.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:17 ============ Gen 40:17 and in the top basket there were some of all sorts of baked food for Pharaoh, and the birds were eating them out of the basket on my head."(nas) Gen 40:17 ἐν δὲ τῷ κανῷ τῷ ἐπάνω ἀπὸ πάντων τῶν γενῶν ὧν ὁ βασιλεὺς Φαραω ἐσθίει ἔργον σιτοποιοῦ καὶ τὰ πετεινὰ τοῦ οὐρανοῦ κατήσθιεν αὐτὰ ἀπὸ τοῦ κανοῦ τοῦ ἐπάνω τῆς κεφαλῆς μου (lxx) Gen 40:17 et in uno canistro quod erat excelsius, portare me omnes cibos qui fiunt arte pistoria, avesque comedere ex eo.(vulgate) Genesis 40:17 And in the vppermost basket there was of all maner baken meates for Pharaoh: and the birdes did eate them out of the basket vpon mine head.(Geneva) Gen 40:17 und im obersten Korbe allerlei gebackene Speise für den Pharao; Drei Körbe sind drei Tage;(dhs) Gen 40:18 So Joseph answered and said, "This is the interpretation of it: The three baskets are three days.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:19 ============ Gen 40:19 within three more days Pharaoh will lift up your head from you and will hang you on a tree, and the birds will eat your flesh off you."(nas) Gen 40:19 ἔτι τριῶν ἡμερῶν ἀφελεῖ Φαραω τὴν κεφαλήν σου ἀπὸ σοῦ καὶ κρεμάσει σε ἐπὶ ξύλου καὶ φάγεται τὰ ὄρνεα τοῦ οὐρανοῦ τὰς σάρκας σου ἀπὸ σοῦ (lxx) Gen 40:19 post quos auferet Pharao caput tuum, ac suspendet te in cruce, et lacerabunt volucres carnes tuas.(vulgate) Genesis 40:19 Within three dayes shall Pharaoh take thine head from thee, & shal hang thee on a tree, and the birdes shall eate thy flesh from off thee.(Geneva) Gen 40:19 und nach drei Tagen wird dir Pharao dein Haupt erheben und dich an den Galgen hängen, und die Vögel werden dein Fleisch von dir essen.(dhs) Gen 40:19 Within three days Pharaoh will lift off your head from you and hang you on a tree; and the birds will eat your flesh from you."(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:20 ============ Gen 40:20 Thus it came about on the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief cupbearer and the head of the chief baker among his servants.(nas) Gen 40:20 ἐγένετο δὲ ἐν τῇ ἡμέρᾳ τῇ τρίτῃ ἡμέρα γενέσεως ἦν Φαραω καὶ ἐποίει πότον πᾶσι τοῖς παισὶν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἐμνήσθη τῆς ἀρχῆς τοῦ ἀρχιοινοχόου καὶ τῆς ἀρχῆς τοῦ ἀρχισιτοποιοῦ ἐν μέσῳ τῶν παίδων αὐτοῦ (lxx) Gen 40:20 Exinde dies tertius natalitius Pharaonis erat: qui faciens grande convivium pueris suis, recordatus est inter epulas magistri pincernarum, et pistorum principis.(vulgate) Genesis 40:20 And so the third day, which was Pharaohs birthday, hee made a feast vnto all his seruants: and hee lifted vp the head of the chiefe butler, and the head of the chiefe baker among his seruants.(Geneva) Gen 40:20 Und es geschah des dritten Tages, da beging Pharao seinen Jahrestag; und er machte eine Mahlzeit allen seinen Knechten und erhob das Haupt des obersten Schenken und das Haupt des obersten Bäckers unter den Knechten,(dhs) Gen 40:20 Now it came to pass on the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast for all his servants; and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:21 ============ Gen 40:21 He restored the chief cupbearer to his office, and he put the cup into Pharaoh's hand;(nas) Gen 40:21 καὶ ἀπεκατέστησεν τὸν ἀρχιοινοχόον ἐπὶ τὴν ἀρχὴν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἔδωκεν τὸ ποτήριον εἰς τὴν χεῖρα Φαραω (lxx) Gen 40:21 Restituitque alterum in locum suum, ut porrigeret ei poculum:(vulgate) Genesis 40:21 And he restored the chiefe butler vnto his butlershippe, who gaue the cup into Pharaohs hande,(Geneva) Gen 40:21 und setzte den obersten Schenken wieder in sein Schenkamt, daß er den Becher reicht in Pharaos Hand;(dhs) Gen 40:21 Then he restored the chief butler to his butlership again, and he placed the cup in Pharaoh's hand.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:22 ============ Gen 40:22 but he hanged the chief baker, just as Joseph had interpreted to them.(nas) Gen 40:22 τὸν δὲ ἀρχισιτοποιὸν ἐκρέμασεν καθὰ συνέκρινεν αὐτοῖς Ιωσηφ (lxx) Gen 40:22 alterum suspendit in patibulo, ut conjectoris veritas probaretur.(vulgate) Genesis 40:22 But he hanged the chiefe baker, as Ioseph had interpreted vnto them.(Geneva) Gen 40:22 aber den obersten Bäcker ließ er henken, wie ihnen Joseph gedeutet hatte.(dhs) Gen 40:22 But he hanged the chief baker, as Joseph had interpreted to them.(nkjv) ======= Genesis 40:23 ============ Gen 40:23 Yet the chief cupbearer did not remember Joseph, but forgot him.
