And they contended with him vigorously.(nas) Jdg 8:1 καὶ εἶπαν πρὸς Γεδεων ἀνὴρ Εφραιμ τί τὸ ῥῆμα τοῦτο ἐποίησας ἡμῖν τοῦ μὴ καλέσαι ἡμᾶς ὅτε ἐπορεύθης παρατάξασθαι ἐν Μαδιαμ καὶ διελέξαντο πρὸς αὐτὸν ἰσχυρῶς (lxx) Jdg 8:1 Dixeruntque ad eum viri Ephraim: Quid est hoc quod facere voluisti, ut nos non vocares, cum ad pugnam pergeres contra Madian? jurgantes fortiter, et prope vim inferentes.(vulgate) Judges 8:1 Then the men of Ephraim sayde vnto him, Why hast thou serued vs thus that thou calledst vs not, when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? and they chode with him sharply.(Geneva) Jdg 8:1 Und die Männer von Ephraim sprachen zu ihm: Warum hast du uns das getan, daß du uns nicht riefst, da du in den Streit zogst wider die Midianiter? And they reprimanded him sharply.(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:2 ============ Jdg 8:2 But he said to them, "What have I done now in comparison with you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?(nas) Jdg 8:2 καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς αὐτούς τί ἐποίησα νῦν καθὼς ὑμεῖς ἢ οὐχὶ κρεῖσσον ἐπιφυλλὶς Εφραιμ ἢ τρυγητὸς Αβιεζερ (lxx) Jdg 8:2 Quibus ille respondit: Quod enim tale facere potui, quale vos fecistis? nonne melior est racemus Ephraim, vindemiis Abiezer?(vulgate) Judges 8:2 To whom he said, What haue I now done in comparison of you? is not the gleaning of grapes of Ephraim better, then the vintage of Abiezer?(Geneva) Jdg 8:2 Er aber sprach zu ihnen: Was habe ich jetzt getan, das eurer Tat gleich sei? Ist nicht die Nachlese Ephraims besser denn die ganze Weinernte Abiesers?(dhs) Jdg 8:2 So he said to them, "What have I done now in comparison with you? Is not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:3 ============ Jdg 8:3 God has given the leaders of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb into your hands; and what was I able to do in comparison with you?" Then their anger toward him subsided when he said that.(nas) Jdg 8:3 ἐν χειρὶ ὑμῶν παρέδωκεν κύριος τοὺς ἄρχοντας Μαδιαμ τὸν Ωρηβ καὶ τὸν Ζηβ καὶ τί ἠδυνήθην ποιῆσαι ὡς ὑμεῖς τότε ἀνέθη τὸ πνεῦμα αὐτῶν ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ ἐν τῷ λαλῆσαι αὐτὸν τὸν λόγον τοῦτον (lxx) Jdg 8:3 In manus vestras Dominus tradidit principes Madian, Oreb et Zeb: quid tale facere potui, quale vos fecistis? Quod cum locutus esset, requievit spiritus eorum, quo tumebant contra eum.~(vulgate) Judges 8:3 God hath deliuered into your handes the princes of Midian, Oreb & Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? & when he had thus spoken, then their spirits abated toward him.(Geneva) Jdg 8:3 Gott hat die Fürsten der Midianiter, Oreb und Seeb, in eure Hände gegeben. Then their anger toward him subsided when he said that.(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:4 ============ Jdg 8:4 Then Gideon and the 300 men who were with him came to the Jordan and crossed over, weary yet pursuing.(nas) Jdg 8:4 καὶ ἦλθεν Γεδεων ἐπὶ τὸν Ιορδάνην καὶ διέβη αὐτὸς καὶ οἱ τριακόσιοι ἄνδρες οἱ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ πεινῶντες καὶ διώκοντες (lxx) Jdg 8:4 Cumque venisset Gedeon ad Jordanem, transivit eum cum trecentis viris, qui secum erant: et præ lassitudine, fugientes persequi non poterant.(vulgate) Judges 8:4 And Gideon came to Iorden to passe ouer, hee, and the three hundreth men that were with him, weary, yet pursuing them.(Geneva) Jdg 8:4 Da nun Gideon an den Jordan kam, ging er hinüber mit den dreihundert Mann, die bei ihm waren; die waren müde und jagten nach.(dhs) Jdg 8:4 When Gideon came to the Jordan, he and the three hundred men who were with him crossed over, exhausted but still in pursuit.(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:5 ============ Jdg 8:5 He said to the men of Succoth, "Please give loaves of bread to the people who are following me, for they are weary, and I am pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna, the kings of Midian."(nas) Jdg 8:5 καὶ εἶπεν τοῖς ἀνδράσιν Σοκχωθ δότε δὴ ἄρτους εἰς τροφὴν τῷ λαῷ τούτῳ τῷ ἐν ποσίν μου ὅτι ἐκλείπουσιν καὶ ἰδοὺ ἐγώ εἰμι διώκων ὀπίσω τοῦ Ζεβεε καὶ Σελμανα βασιλέων Μαδιαμ (lxx) Jdg 8:5 Dixitque ad viros Soccoth: Date, obsecro, panes populo qui mecum est, quia valde defecerunt: ut possimus persequi Zebee et Salmana reges Madian.(vulgate) Judges 8:5 And he said vnto the men of Succoth, Giue, I pray you, morsels of bread vnto the people that followe me (for they be wearie ) that I may follow after Zebah, & Zalmunna Kings of Midia.(Geneva) Jdg 8:5 Und er sprach zu den Leuten von Sukkoth: Gebt doch dem Volk, das unter mir ist, etliche Brote; denn sie sind müde, daß ich nachjagte den Königen der Mididaniter, Sebah und Zalmuna.(dhs) Jdg 8:5 Then he said to the men of Succoth, "Please give loaves of bread to the people who follow me, for they are exhausted, and I am pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian."(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:6 ============ Jdg 8:6 The leaders of Succoth said, "Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in your hands, that we should give bread to your army?"(nas) Jdg 8:6 καὶ εἶπον οἱ ἄρχοντες Σοκχωθ μὴ χεὶρ Ζεβεε καὶ Σελμανα νῦν ἐν χειρί σου οὐ δώσομεν τῇ δυνάμει σου ἄρτους (lxx) Jdg 8:6 Responderunt principes Soccoth: Forsitan palmæ manuum Zebee et Salmana in manu tua sunt, et idcirco postulas ut demus exercitui tuo panes.(vulgate) Judges 8:6 And the princes of Succoth sayde, Are the handes of Zebah and Zalmunna nowe in thine hads, that we should giue bread vnto thine army?(Geneva) Jdg 8:6 Aber die Obersten zu Sukkoth sprachen: Sind die Fäuste Sebahs und Zalmunas schon in deinen Händen, daß wir deinem Heer sollen Brot geben?(dhs) Jdg 8:6 And the leaders of Succoth said, "Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your army?"(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:7 ============ Jdg 8:7 Gideon said, "All right, when the Lord has given Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will thrash your bodies with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers."(nas) Jdg 8:7 καὶ εἶπεν Γεδεων διὰ τοῦτο ἐν τῷ δοῦναι κύριον τὸν Ζεβεε καὶ Σελμανα ἐν χειρί μου καὶ ἐγὼ ἀλοήσω τὰς σάρκας ὑμῶν ἐν ταῖς ἀκάνθαις τῆς ἐρήμου καὶ ἐν ταῖς αβαρκηνιν (lxx) Jdg 8:7 Quibus ille ait: Cum ergo tradiderit Dominus Zebee et Salmana in manus meas, conteram carnes vestras cum spinis tribulisque deserti.(vulgate) Judges 8:7 Gideon then sayde, Therefore when the Lorde hath deliuered Zebah and Zalmunna into mine hand, I will teare your flesh with thornes of the wildernes and with breers.(Geneva) Jdg 8:7 Gideon sprach: Wohlan, wenn der HERR Sebah und Zalmuna in meine Hand gibt, will ich euer Fleisch mit Dornen aus der Wüste und mit Hecken zerdreschen.(dhs) Jdg 8:7 So Gideon said, "For this cause, when the Lord has delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers!"(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:8 ============ Jdg 8:8 He went up from there to Penuel and spoke similarly to them; and the men of Penuel answered him just as the men of Succoth had answered.(nas) Jdg 8:8 καὶ ἀνέβη ἐκεῖθεν εἰς Φανουηλ καὶ ἐλάλησεν πρὸς αὐτοὺς ὡσαύτως καὶ ἀπεκρίθησαν αὐτῷ οἱ ἄνδρες Φανουηλ ὃν τρόπον ἀπεκρίθησαν ἄνδρες Σοκχωθ (lxx) Jdg 8:8 Et inde conscendens, venit in Phanuel: locutusque est ad viros loci illius similia. Cui et illi responderunt, sicut responderant viri Soccoth.(vulgate) Judges 8:8 And he went vp thence to Penuel, and spake vnto them likewise, and the men of Penuel answered him, as the men of Succoth answered.(Geneva) Jdg 8:8 Und er zog von da hinauf gen Pnuel und redete auch also zu ihnen. Und die Leute zu Pnuel antworteten ihm gleich wie die zu Sukkoth.(dhs) Jdg 8:8 Then he went up from there to Penuel and spoke to them in the same way. And the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered.(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:9 ============ Jdg 8:9 So he spoke also to the men of Penuel, saying, "When I return safely, I will tear down this tower."(nas) Jdg 8:9 καὶ εἶπεν Γεδεων πρὸς ἄνδρας Φανουηλ ἐν ἐπιστροφῇ μου μετ᾽ εἰρήνης τὸν πύργον τοῦτον κατασκάψω (lxx) Jdg 8:9 Dixit itaque et eis: Cum reversus fuero victor in pace, destruam turrim hanc.~(vulgate) Judges 8:9 And he sayd also vnto the men of Penuel, When I come againe in peace, I will breake downe this towre.(Geneva) Jdg 8:9 Und er sprach auch zu den Leuten zu Pnuel: Komme ich mit Frieden wieder, so will ich diesen Turm zerbrechen.(dhs) Jdg 8:9 So he also spoke to the men of Penuel, saying, "When I come back in peace, I will tear down this tower!"(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:10 ============ Jdg 8:10 Now Zebah and Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their armies with them, about 15,000 men, all who were left of the entire army of the sons of the east; for the fallen were 120,000 swordsmen.(nas) Jdg 8:10 καὶ Ζεβεε καὶ Σελμανα ἐν Καρκαρ καὶ ἡ παρεμβολὴ αὐτῶν μετ᾽ αὐτῶν ὡσεὶ δέκα πέντε χιλιάδες πάντες οἱ καταλελειμμένοι ἀπὸ πάσης παρεμβολῆς ἀλλοφύλων καὶ οἱ πεπτωκότες ἑκατὸν εἴκοσι χιλιάδες ἀνδρῶν σπωμένων ῥομφαίαν (lxx) Jdg 8:10 Zebee autem et Salmana requiescebant cum omni exercitu suo. Quindecim enim millia viri remanserant ex omnibus turmis orientalium populorum, cæsis centum viginti millibus bellatorum educentium gladium.(vulgate) Judges 8:10 Now Zebah & Zalmunna were in Karkor, and their hostes with them, about fifteene thousande, all that were left of all the hostes of them of the East: for there was slaine an hundreth and twentie thousand men, that drew swordes.(Geneva) Jdg 8:10 Sebah aber und Zalmuna waren zu Karkor und ihr Heer mit ihnen, bei fünfzehntausend, alle, die übriggeblieben waren vom ganzen Heer derer aus Morgenland; denn hundertzwanzigtausend waren gefallen, die das Schwert ausziehen konnten.(dhs) Jdg 8:10 Now Zebah and Zalmunna were at Karkor, and their armies with them, about fifteen thousand, all who were left of all the army of the people of the East; for one hundred and twenty thousand men who drew the sword had fallen.(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:11 ============ Jdg 8:11 Gideon went up by the way of those who lived in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and attacked the camp when the camp was unsuspecting.(nas) Jdg 8:11 καὶ ἀνέβη Γεδεων ὁδὸν τῶν σκηνούντων ἐν σκηναῖς ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν τῆς Ναβαι καὶ Ιεγεβαλ καὶ ἐπάταξεν τὴν παρεμβολήν καὶ ἡ παρεμβολὴ ἦν πεποιθυῖα (lxx) Jdg 8:11 Ascendensque Gedeon per viam eorum, qui in tabernaculis morabantur, ad orientalem partem Nobe et Jegbaa, percussit castra hostium, qui securi erant, et nihil adversi suspicabantur.(vulgate) Judges 8:11 And Gideon went through them that dwelt in Tabernacles on the East side of Nobah and Iogbehah, and smote the hoste: for the hoste was carelesse.(Geneva) Jdg 8:11 Und Gideon zog hinauf auf der Straße derer, die in Hütten wohnten, gegen Morgen von Nobah und Jogbeha, und schlug das Heer, denn das Heer war sicher.(dhs) Jdg 8:11 Then Gideon went up by the road of those who dwell in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah; and he attacked the army while the camp felt secure.(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:12 ============ Jdg 8:12 When Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued them and captured the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and routed the whole army.(nas) Jdg 8:12 καὶ ἔφυγον Ζεβεε καὶ Σελμανα καὶ ἐδίωξεν ὀπίσω αὐτῶν καὶ ἐκράτησεν τοὺς δύο βασιλεῖς Μαδιαμ τὸν Ζεβεε καὶ τὸν Σελμανα καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν παρεμβολὴν ἐξέστησεν (lxx) Jdg 8:12 Fugeruntque Zebee et Salmana, quos persequens Gedeon comprehendit, turbato omni exercitu eorum.(vulgate) Judges 8:12 And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, hee followed after them, and tooke the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the hoste.(Geneva) Jdg 8:12 Und Sebah und Zalmuna flohen; aber er jagte ihnen nach und fing die zwei Könige der Midianiter, Sebah und Zalmuna, und schreckte das ganze Heer.(dhs) Jdg 8:12 When Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued them; and he took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and routed the whole army.(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:13 ============ Jdg 8:13 Then Gideon the son of Joash returned from the battle by the ascent of Heres.(nas) Jdg 8:13 καὶ ἐπέστρεψεν Γεδεων υἱὸς Ιωας ἀπὸ τῆς παρατάξεως ἀπὸ ἐπάνωθεν τῆς παρατάξεως Αρες (lxx) Jdg 8:13 Revertensque de bello ante solis ortum,(vulgate) Judges 8:13 So Gideon the sonne of Ioash returned from battel, the sunne being yet hie,(Geneva) Jdg 8:13 Da nun Gideon, der Sohn Joas, wiederkam vom Streit, ehe die Sonne heraufgekommen war,(dhs) Jdg 8:13 Then Gideon the son of Joash returned from battle, from the Ascent of Heres.(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:14 ============ Jdg 8:14 And he captured a youth from Succoth and questioned him. Then the youth wrote down for him the princes of Succoth and its elders, seventy-seven men.(nas) Jdg 8:14 καὶ συνέλαβεν παιδάριον ἀπὸ τῶν ἀνδρῶν Σοκχωθ καὶ ἐπηρώτησεν αὐτόν καὶ ἔγραψεν πρὸς αὐτὸν τὰ ὀνόματα τῶν ἀρχόντων Σοκχωθ καὶ τῶν πρεσβυτέρων αὐτῶν ἑβδομήκοντα καὶ ἑπτὰ ἄνδρας (lxx) Jdg 8:14 apprehendit puerum de viris Soccoth: interrogavitque eum nomina principum et seniorum Soccoth, et descripsit septuaginta septem viros.(vulgate) Judges 8:14 And tooke a seruant of the me of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he wrote to him the princes of Succoth and the Elders thereof, euen seuentie and seuen men.(Geneva) Jdg 8:14 fing er einen Knaben aus den Leuten zu Sukkoth und fragte ihn; der schrieb ihm auf die Obersten zu Sukkoth und ihre Ältesten, siebenundsiebzig Mann.(dhs) Jdg 8:14 And he caught a young man of the men of Succoth and interrogated him; and he wrote down for him the leaders of Succoth and its elders, seventy-seven men.(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:15 ============ Jdg 8:15 He came to the men of Succoth and said, "Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, concerning whom you taunted me, saying, 'Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna already in your hand, that we should give bread to your men who are weary?'"(nas) Jdg 8:15 καὶ παρεγένετο Γεδεων πρὸς τοὺς ἄρχοντας Σοκχωθ καὶ εἶπεν ἰδοὺ Ζεβεε καὶ Σελμανα ἐν οἷς ὠνειδίσατέ με λέγοντες μὴ χεὶρ Ζεβεε καὶ Σελμανα νῦν ἐν χειρί σου ὅτι δώσομεν τοῖς ἀνδράσιν τοῖς ἐκλείπουσιν ἄρτους (lxx) Jdg 8:15 Venitque ad Soccoth, et dixit eis: En Zebee et Salmana, super quibus exprobrastis mihi, dicentes: Forsitan manus Zebee et Salmana in manibus tuis sunt, et idcirco postulas ut demus viris, qui lassi sunt et defecerunt, panes.(vulgate) Judges 8:15 And he came vnto the men of Succoth, & sayd, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, by whome ye vpbrayded me, saying, Are the hands of Zebah & Zalmunna already in thine hands, that we should giue bread vnto thy weary men?(Geneva) Jdg 8:15 Und er kam zu den Leuten zu Sukkoth und sprach: Siehe, hier ist Sebah und Zalmuna, über welchen ihr mein spottetet und spracht: Ist denn Sebahs und Zalmunas Faust schon in deinen Händen, daß wir deinen Leuten, die müde sind, Brot geben sollen?(dhs) Jdg 8:15 Then he came to the men of Succoth and said, "Here are Zebah and Zalmunna, about whom you ridiculed me, saying, 'Are the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in your hand, that we should give bread to your weary men?' "(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:16 ============ Jdg 8:16 He took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and he disciplined the men of Succoth with them.(nas) Jdg 8:16 καὶ ἔλαβεν τοὺς πρεσβυτέρους τῆς πόλεως ἐν ταῖς ἀκάνθαις τῆς ἐρήμου καὶ ταῖς βαρακηνιμ καὶ ἠλόησεν ἐν αὐτοῖς τοὺς ἄνδρας τῆς πόλεως (lxx) Jdg 8:16 Tulit ergo seniores civitatis et spinas deserti ac tribulos, et contrivit cum eis atque comminuit viros Soccoth.(vulgate) Judges 8:16 Then he tooke the Elders of the citie, and thornes of the wildernes & breers, & did teare the men of Succoth with them.(Geneva) Jdg 8:16 Und er nahm die Ältesten der Stadt und Dornen aus der Wüste und Hecken und ließ es die Leute zu Sukkoth fühlen.(dhs) Jdg 8:16 And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:17 ============ Jdg 8:17 He tore down the tower of Penuel and killed the men of the city.(nas) Jdg 8:17 καὶ τὸν πύργον Φανουηλ κατέστρεψεν καὶ ἀπέκτεινεν τοὺς ἄνδρας τῆς πόλεως (lxx) Jdg 8:17 Turrim quoque Phanuel subvertit, occisis habitatoribus civitatis.(vulgate) Judges 8:17 Also he brake downe the towre of Penuel, and slew the men of the citie.(Geneva) Jdg 8:17 Und den Turm Pnuels zerbrach er und erwürgte die Leute der Stadt.(dhs) Jdg 8:17 Then he tore down the tower of Penuel and killed the men of the city.(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:18 ============ Jdg 8:18 Then he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, "What kind of men were they whom you killed at Tabor?" And they said, "They were like you, each one resembling the son of a king."(nas) Jdg 8:18 καὶ εἶπεν πρὸς Ζεβεε καὶ Σελμανα ποῦ οἱ ἄνδρες οὓς ἀπεκτείνατε ἐν Θαβωρ καὶ εἶπαν ὡς σύ ὣς αὐτοὶ εἰς ὁμοίωμα υἱοῦ βασιλέως (lxx) Jdg 8:18 Dixitque ad Zebee et Salmana: Quales fuerunt viri, quos occidistis in Thabor? Qui responderunt: Similes tui, et unus ex eis quasi filius regis.(vulgate) Judges 8:18 Then saide he vnto Zebah & Zalmunna, What maner of men were they, whom ye slew at Tabor? and they answered, As thou art, so were they: euery one was like the children of a King.(Geneva) Jdg 8:18 Und er sprach zu Sebah und Zalmuna: Wie waren die Männer, die ihr erwürgtet zu Thabor? Sie sprachen: Sie waren wie du und ein jeglicher schön wie eines Königs Kinder.(dhs) Jdg 8:18 And he said to Zebah and Zalmunna, "What kind of men were they whom you killed at Tabor?" So they answered, "As you are, so were they; each one resembled the son of a king."(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:19 ============ Jdg 8:19 He said, "They were my brothers, the sons of my mother. As the Lord lives, if only you had let them live, I would not kill you."(nas) Jdg 8:19 καὶ εἶπεν Γεδεων ἀδελφοί μου καὶ υἱοὶ τῆς μητρός μου ἦσαν ζῇ κύριος εἰ ἐζωογονήκειτε αὐτούς οὐκ ἂν ἀπέκτεινα ὑμᾶς (lxx) Jdg 8:19 Quibus ille respondit: Fratres mei fuerunt, filii matris meæ. Vivit Dominus, quia si servassetis eos, non vos occiderem.(vulgate) Judges 8:19 And he said, They were my brethren, euen my mothers children: as the Lorde liueth, if ye had saued their liues, I would not slay you.(Geneva) Jdg 8:19 Er aber sprach: Es sind meine Brüder, meiner Mutter Söhne, gewesen. So wahr der HERR lebt, wo ihr sie hättet leben lassen, wollte ich euch nicht erwürgen.(dhs) Jdg 8:19 Then he said, "They were my brothers, the sons of my mother. As the Lord lives, if you had let them live, I would not kill you."(nkjv) ======= Judges 8:20 ============ Jdg 8:20 So he said to Jether his firstborn, "Rise, kill them."
