So David sent messengers to console him concerning his father. And David's servants came into the land of the sons of Ammon to Hanun to console him.(nas) 1Ch 19:2 καὶ εἶπεν Δαυιδ ποιήσω ἔλεος μετὰ Αναν υἱοῦ Ναας ὡς ἐποίησεν ὁ πατὴρ αὐτοῦ μετ᾽ ἐμοῦ ἔλεος καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους Δαυιδ τοῦ παρακαλέσαι αὐτὸν περὶ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ καὶ ἦλθον παῖδες Δαυιδ εἰς γῆν υἱῶν Αμμων τοῦ παρακαλέσαι αὐτόν (lxx) 1Ch 19:2 Dixitque David: Faciam misericordiam cum Hanon filio Naas: præstitit enim mihi pater ejus gratiam. Misitque David nuntios ad consolandum eum super morte patris sui. Qui cum pervenissent in terram filiorum Ammon ut consolarentur Hanon,(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:2 And Dauid said, I will shew kindnesse vnto Hanun the sonne of Nahash, because his father shewed kindnesse vnto me; Dauid sent messengers to comfort him for his father. Have not his servants come to you to search and to overthrow and to spy out the land?"(nas) 1Ch 19:3 καὶ εἶπον ἄρχοντες Αμμων πρὸς Αναν μὴ δοξάζων Δαυιδ τὸν πατέρα σου ἐναντίον σου ἀπέστειλέν σοι παρακαλοῦντας οὐχ ὅπως ἐξερευνήσωσιν τὴν πόλιν τοῦ κατασκοπῆσαι τὴν γῆν ἦλθον παῖδες αὐτοῦ πρὸς σέ (lxx) 1Ch 19:3 dixerunt principes filiorum Ammon ad Hanon: Tu forsitan putas, quod David honoris causa in patrem tuum miserit qui consolentur te: nec animadvertis quod ut explorent, et investigent, et scrutentur terram tuam, venerint ad te servi ejus.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:3 And the princes of the children of Ammon said to Hanun, Thinkest thou that Dauid doeth honour thy father, that he hath sent comforters vnto thee? Did his servants not come to you to search and to overthrow and to spy out the land?"(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:4 ============ 1Ch 19:4 So Hanun took David's servants and shaved them and cut off their garments in the middle as far as their hips, and sent them away.(nas) 1Ch 19:4 καὶ ἔλαβεν Αναν τοὺς παῖδας Δαυιδ καὶ ἐξύρησεν αὐτοὺς καὶ ἀφεῖλεν τῶν μανδυῶν αὐτῶν τὸ ἥμισυ ἕως τῆς ἀναβολῆς καὶ ἀπέστειλεν αὐτούς (lxx) 1Ch 19:4 Igitur Hanon pueros David decalvavit, et rasit, et præcidit tunicas eorum a natibus usque ad pedes, et dimisit eos.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:4 Wherefore Hanun tooke Dauids seruants, and shaued them, & cut off their garments by the halfe vnto the buttocks, and sent them away.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:4 Da nahm Hanon die Knechte Davids und schor sie und schnitt ihre Kleider halb ab bis an die Lenden und ließ sie gehen.(dhs) 1Ch 19:4 Therefore Hanun took David's servants, shaved them, and cut off their garments in the middle, at their buttocks, and sent them away.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:5 ============ 1Ch 19:5 Then certain persons went and told David about the men. And he sent to meet them, for the men were greatly humiliated. And the king said, "Stay at Jericho until your beards grow, and then return."(nas) 1Ch 19:5 καὶ ἦλθον ἀπαγγεῖλαι τῷ Δαυιδ περὶ τῶν ἀνδρῶν καὶ ἀπέστειλεν εἰς ἀπάντησιν αὐτοῖς ὅτι ἦσαν ἠτιμωμένοι σφόδρα καὶ εἶπεν ὁ βασιλεύς καθίσατε ἐν Ιεριχω ἕως τοῦ ἀνατεῖλαι τοὺς πώγωνας ὑμῶν καὶ ἀνακάμψατε (lxx) 1Ch 19:5 Qui cum abiissent, et hoc mandassent David, misit in occursum eorum (grandem enim contumeliam sustinuerant) et præcepit ut manerent in Jericho, donec cresceret barba eorum, et tunc reverterentur.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:5 And there went certaine and tolde Dauid concerning the men: and he sent to meete them (for the men were exceedingly ashamed) and the King saide, Tarie at Iericho, vntill your beardes be growen: then returne.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:5 Und etliche gingen hin und sagten es David an von den Männern. Er aber sandte ihnen entgegen; denn die Männer waren sehr geschändet. And the king said, "Wait at Jericho until your beards have grown, and then return."(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:6 ============ 1Ch 19:6 When the sons of Ammon saw that they had made themselves odious to David, Hanun and the sons of Ammon sent 1,000 talents of silver to hire for themselves chariots and horsemen from Mesopotamia, from Aram-maacah and from Zobah.(nas) 1Ch 19:6 καὶ εἶδον οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων ὅτι ᾐσχύνθη λαὸς Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν Αναν καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων χίλια τάλαντα ἀργυρίου τοῦ μισθώσασθαι ἑαυτοῖς ἐκ Συρίας Μεσοποταμίας καὶ ἐκ Συρίας Μοοχα καὶ ἐκ Σωβα ἅρματα καὶ ἱππεῖς (lxx) 1Ch 19:6 Videntes autem filii Ammon quod injuriam fecissent David, tam Hanon quam reliquus populus, miserunt mille talenta argenti, ut conducerent sibi de Mesopotamia, et de Syria Maacha, et de Soba currus et equites.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:6 When the children of Ammon saw that they stanke in the sight of Dauid, then sent Hanun and the children of Ammon a thousande talents of siluer to hire them charets and horsemen out of Aram Naharaim and out of Aram Maachah, and out of Zobah.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:6 Da aber die Kinder Ammon sahen, daß sie waren stinkend geworden vor David, sandten sie hin, beide Hanon und die Kinder Ammon, tausend Zentner Silber, Wagen und Reiter zu dingen aus Mesopotamien, aus dem Syrien von Maacha und aus Zoba.(dhs) 1Ch 19:6 When the people of Ammon saw that they had made themselves repulsive to David, Hanun and the people of Ammon sent a thousand talents of silver to hire for themselves chariots and horsemen from Mesopotamia, from Syrian Maachah, and from Zobah.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:7 ============ 1Ch 19:7 So they hired for themselves 32,000 chariots, and the king of Maacah and his people, who came and camped before Medeba. And the sons of Ammon gathered together from their cities and came to battle.(nas) 1Ch 19:7 καὶ ἐμισθώσαντο ἑαυτοῖς δύο καὶ τριάκοντα χιλιάδας ἁρμάτων καὶ τὸν βασιλέα Μωχα καὶ τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ καὶ ἦλθον καὶ παρενέβαλον κατέναντι Μαιδαβα καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων συνήχθησαν ἐκ τῶν πόλεων αὐτῶν καὶ ἦλθον εἰς τὸ πολεμῆσαι (lxx) 1Ch 19:7 Conduxeruntque triginta duo millia curruum, et regem Maacha cum populo ejus. Qui cum venissent, castrametati sunt e regione Medaba. Filii quoque Ammon congregati de urbibus suis venerunt ad bellum.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:7 And they hired them two and thirty thousande charets, and the King of Maachah and his people, which came and pitched before Medeba: and the children of Ammon gathered themselues together from their cities, and came to the battell.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:7 Und dingten zweiunddreißigtausend Wagen und den König von Maacha mit seinem Volk; die kamen und lagerten sich vor Medeba. Und die Kinder Ammon sammelten sich aus ihren Städten und kamen zum Streit.(dhs) 1Ch 19:7 So they hired for themselves thirty-two thousand chariots, with the king of Maachah and his people, who came and encamped before Medeba. Also the people of Ammon gathered together from their cities, and came to battle.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:8 ============ 1Ch 19:8 When David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army, the mighty men.(nas) 1Ch 19:8 καὶ ἤκουσεν Δαυιδ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν τὸν Ιωαβ καὶ πᾶσαν τὴν στρατιὰν τῶν δυνατῶν (lxx) 1Ch 19:8 Quod cum audisset David, misit Joab, et omnem exercitum virorum fortium:(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:8 And when Dauid heard, he sent Ioab and all the hoste of the valiant men.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:8 Da das David hörte, sandte er hin Joab mit dem ganzen Heer der Helden.(dhs) 1Ch 19:8 Now when David heard of it, he sent Joab and all the army of the mighty men.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:9 ============ 1Ch 19:9 The sons of Ammon came out and drew up in battle array at the entrance of the city, and the kings who had come were by themselves in the field. (nas) 1Ch 19:9 καὶ ἐξῆλθον οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων καὶ παρατάσσονται εἰς πόλεμον παρὰ τὸν πυλῶνα τῆς πόλεως καὶ οἱ βασιλεῖς οἱ ἐλθόντες παρενέβαλον καθ᾽ ἑαυτοὺς ἐν τῷ πεδίῳ (lxx) 1Ch 19:9 egressique filii Ammon, direxerunt aciem juxta portam civitatis; reges autem, qui ad auxilium ejus venerant, separatim in agro steterunt.~(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:9 And the children of Ammon came out, and set their battell in aray at the gate of the citie; the Kings that were come, were by them selues in the fielde.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:9 Die Kinder Ammon aber waren ausgezogen und rüsteten sich zum Streit vor der Stadt Tor. Die Könige aber, die gekommen waren, hielten im Felde besonders.(dhs) 1Ch 19:9 Then the people of Ammon came out and put themselves in battle array before the gate of the city, and the kings who had come were by themselves in the field.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:10 ============ 1Ch 19:10 Now when Joab saw that the battle was set against him in front and in the rear, he selected from all the choice men of Israel and they arrayed themselves against the Arameans.(nas) 1Ch 19:10 καὶ εἶδεν Ιωαβ ὅτι γεγόνασιν ἀντιπρόσωποι τοῦ πολεμεῖν πρὸς αὐτὸν κατὰ πρόσωπον καὶ ἐξόπισθεν καὶ ἐξελέξατο ἐκ παντὸς νεανίου ἐξ Ισραηλ καὶ παρετάξαντο ἐναντίον τοῦ Σύρου (lxx) 1Ch 19:10 Igitur Joab, intelligens bellum ex adverso et post tergum contra se fieri, elegit viros fortissimos de universo Israël, et perrexit contra Syrum.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:10 When Ioab saw that the front of the battel was against him before and behinde, then he chose out of all the choyse of Israel, and set him selfe in aray to meete the Aramites.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:10 Da nun Joab sah, daß vorn und hinter ihm Streit wider ihn war, erwählte er aus aller jungen Mannschaft in Israel und stellte sich gegen die Syrer.(dhs) 1Ch 19:10 When Joab saw that the battle line was against him before and behind, he chose some of Israel's best and put them in battle array against the Syrians.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:11 ============ 1Ch 19:11 But the remainder of the people he placed in the hand of Abshai his brother; and they arrayed themselves against the sons of Ammon.(nas) 1Ch 19:11 καὶ τὸ κατάλοιπον τοῦ λαοῦ ἔδωκεν ἐν χειρὶ Αβεσσα ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ παρετάξαντο ἐξ ἐναντίας υἱῶν Αμμων (lxx) 1Ch 19:11 Reliquam autem partem populi dedit sub manu Abisai fratris sui: et perrexerunt contra filios Ammon.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:11 And the rest of the people he deliuered vnto the hande of Abishai his brother, and they put them selues in aray against the children of Ammon.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:11 Das übrige Volk aber tat er unter die Hand Abisais, seines Bruders, daß sie sich rüsteten wider die Kinder Ammon,(dhs) 1Ch 19:11 And the rest of the people he put under the command of Abishai his brother, and they set themselves in battle array against the people of Ammon.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:12 ============ 1Ch 19:12 He said, "If the Arameans are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the sons of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you.(nas) 1Ch 19:12 καὶ εἶπεν ἐὰν κρατήσῃ ὑπὲρ ἐμὲ Σύρος καὶ ἔσῃ μοι εἰς σωτηρίαν καὶ ἐὰν υἱοὶ Αμμων κρατήσωσιν ὑπὲρ σέ καὶ σώσω σε (lxx) 1Ch 19:12 Dixitque: Si vicerit me Syrus, auxilio eris mihi: si autem superaverint te filii Ammon, ero tibi in præsidium.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:12 And he saide, If Aram be too strong for me, then thou shalt succour me: and if the children of Ammon preuaile against thee, then I wil succour thee.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:12 und sprach: Wenn mir die Syrer zu stark werden, so komm mir zu Hilfe; wo dir aber die Kinder Ammon zu stark werden, will ich dir helfen.(dhs) 1Ch 19:12 Then he said, "If the Syrians are too strong for me, then you shall help me; but if the people of Ammon are too strong for you, then I will help you.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:13 ============ 1Ch 19:13 Be strong, and let us show ourselves courageous for the sake of our people and for the cities of our God; and may the Lord do what is good in His sight."(nas) 1Ch 19:13 ἀνδρίζου καὶ ἐνισχύσωμεν περὶ τοῦ λαοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ περὶ τῶν πόλεων τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ κύριος τὸ ἀγαθὸν ἐν ὀφθαλμοῖς αὐτοῦ ποιήσει (lxx) 1Ch 19:13 Confortare, et agamus viriliter pro populo nostro, et pro urbibus Dei nostri: Dominus autem, quod in conspectu suo bonum est, faciet.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:13 Be strong, and let vs shewe our selues valiant for our people, and for the cities of our God, and let the Lorde doe that which is good in his owne sight.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:13 Sei getrost und laß uns getrost handeln für unser Volk und für die Städte unseres Gottes; der HERR tue, was ihm gefällt.(dhs) 1Ch 19:13 Be of good courage, and let us be strong for our people and for the cities of our God. And may the Lord do what is good in His sight."(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:14 ============ 1Ch 19:14 So Joab and the people who were with him drew near to the battle against the Arameans, and they fled before him.(nas) 1Ch 19:14 καὶ παρετάξατο Ιωαβ καὶ ὁ λαὸς ὁ μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ κατέναντι Σύρων εἰς πόλεμον καὶ ἔφυγον ἀπ᾽ αὐτοῦ (lxx) 1Ch 19:14 Perrexit ergo Joab et populus qui cum eo erat, contra Syrum ad prælium: et fugavit eos.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:14 So Ioab and the people that was with him, came neere before the Aramites vnto the battel, and they fled before him.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:14 Und Joab machte sich herzu mit dem Volk, das bei ihm war, gegen die Syrer zu streiten; und sie flohen vor ihm.(dhs) 1Ch 19:14 So Joab and the people who were with him drew near for the battle against the Syrians, and they fled before him.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:15 ============ 1Ch 19:15 When the sons of Ammon saw that the Arameans fled, they also fled before Abshai his brother and entered the city. Then Joab came to Jerusalem.(nas) 1Ch 19:15 καὶ οἱ υἱοὶ Αμμων εἶδον ὅτι ἔφυγον Σύροι καὶ ἔφυγον καὶ αὐτοὶ ἀπὸ προσώπου Ιωαβ καὶ ἀπὸ προσώπου Αβεσσα τοῦ ἀδελφοῦ αὐτοῦ καὶ ἦλθον εἰς τὴν πόλιν καὶ ἦλθεν Ιωαβ εἰς Ιερουσαλημ (lxx) 1Ch 19:15 Porro filii Ammon videntes quod fugisset Syrus, ipsi quoque fugerunt Abisai fratrem ejus, et ingressi sunt civitatem: reversusque est etiam Joab in Jerusalem.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:15 And when the children of Ammon sawe that the Aramites fled, they fled also before Abishai his brother, and entred into the citie: so Ioab came to Ierusalem.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:15 Da aber die Kinder Ammon sahen, daß die Syrer flohen, flohen sie auch vor Abisai, seinem Bruder, und zogen in die Stadt. So Joab went to Jerusalem.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:16 ============ 1Ch 19:16 When the Arameans saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they sent messengers and brought out the Arameans who were beyond the River, with Shophach the commander of the army of Hadadezer leading them.(nas) 1Ch 19:16 καὶ εἶδεν Σύρος ὅτι ἐτροπώσατο αὐτὸν Ισραηλ καὶ ἀπέστειλεν ἀγγέλους καὶ ἐξήγαγον τὸν Σύρον ἐκ τοῦ πέραν τοῦ ποταμοῦ καὶ Σωφαχ ἀρχιστράτηγος δυνάμεως Αδρααζαρ ἔμπροσθεν αὐτῶν (lxx) 1Ch 19:16 Videns autem Syrus quod cecidisset coram Israël, misit nuntios, et adduxit Syrum, qui erat trans fluvium: Sophach autem princeps militiæ Adarezer erat dux eorum.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:16 And when the Aramites sawe that they were discomfited before Israel, they sent messengers & caused the Aramites to come forth that were beyond the riuer: and Shophach the captaine of the hoste of Hadarezer went before them.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:16 Da aber die Syrer sahen, daß sie vor Israel geschlagen waren, sandten sie Boten hin und brachten heraus die Syrer jenseit des Stroms; und Sophach, der Feldhauptmann Hadadesers, zog vor ihnen her.(dhs) 1Ch 19:16 Now when the Syrians saw that they had been defeated by Israel, they sent messengers and brought the Syrians who were beyond the River, and Shophach the commander of Hadadezer's army went before them.(nkjv) ======= 1 Chronicles 19:17 ============ 1Ch 19:17 When it was told David, he gathered all Israel together and crossed the Jordan, and came upon them and drew up in formation against them. And when David drew up in battle array against the Arameans, they fought against him.(nas) 1Ch 19:17 καὶ ἀπηγγέλη τῷ Δαυιδ καὶ συνήγαγεν τὸν πάντα Ισραηλ καὶ διέβη τὸν Ιορδάνην καὶ ἦλθεν ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς καὶ παρετάξατο ἐπ᾽ αὐτούς καὶ παρατάσσεται Σύρος ἐξ ἐναντίας Δαυιδ καὶ ἐπολέμησαν αὐτόν (lxx) 1Ch 19:17 Quod cum nuntiatum esset David, congregavit universum Israël, et transivit Jordanem, irruitque in eos et direxit ex adverso aciem, illis contra pugnantibus.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 19:17 And when it was shewed Dauid, he gathered all Israel, and went ouer Iorden, and came vnto them, & put him selfe in aray against them: And when Dauid had put him selfe in battel aray to meete the Aramites, they fought with him.(Geneva) 1Ch 19:17 Da das David angesagt ward, sammelte er zuhauf das ganze Israel und zog über den Jordan; und da er an sie kam, rüstete er sich wider sie. But David stayed at Jerusalem. And Joab struck Rabbah and overthrew it.(nas) 1Ch 20:1 καὶ ἐγένετο ἐν τῷ ἐπιόντι ἔτει ἐν τῇ ἐξόδῳ τῶν βασιλέων καὶ ἤγαγεν Ιωαβ πᾶσαν τὴν δύναμιν τῆς στρατιᾶς καὶ ἔφθειραν τὴν χώραν υἱῶν Αμμων καὶ ἦλθεν καὶ περιεκάθισεν τὴν Ραββα καὶ Δαυιδ ἐκάθητο ἐν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ ἐπάταξεν Ιωαβ τὴν Ραββα καὶ κατέσκαψεν αὐτήν (lxx) 1Ch 20:1 Factum est autem post anni circulum, eo tempore quo solent reges ad bella procedere, congregavit Joab exercitum, et robur militiæ, et vastavit terram filiorum Ammon: perrexitque et obsedit Rabba. Porro David manebat in Jerusalem, quando Joab percussit Rabba et destruxit eam.(vulgate) 1 Chronicles 20:1 And when the yere was expired, in the time that Kings goe out a warfare, Ioab caryed out the strength of the armie, and destroyed the countrey of the children of Ammon, and came and besieged Rabbah (but Dauid taryed at Ierusalem) & Ioab smote Rabbah & destroyed it.(Geneva) 1Ch 20:1 Und da das Jahr um war, zur Zeit, wann die Könige ausziehen, führte Joab die Heermacht und verderbte der Kinder Ammon Land, kam und belagerte Rabba; David aber blieb zu Jerusalem.
