Today's Date: ======= Jeremiah 38:1 ============ Jer 38:1 Now Shephatiah the son of Mattan, and Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, and Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the son of Malchijah heard the words that Jeremiah was speaking to all the people, saying, (nas) Jer 38:1 ἐν τῷ χρόνῳ ἐκείνῳ εἶπεν κύριος ἔσομαι εἰς θεὸν τῷ γένει Ισραηλ καὶ αὐτοὶ ἔσονταί μοι εἰς λαόν (lxx) Jer 38:1 Audivit autem Saphatias filius Mathan, et Gedelias filius Phassur, et Juchal filius Selemiæ, et Phassur filius Melchiæ, sermones quos Jeremias loquebatur ad omnem populum, dicens:(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:1 Then Shephatiah the sonne of Mattan, and Gedaliah the sonne of Pashhur, and Iucal the sonne of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the sonne of Malchiah, heard the wordes that Ieremiah had spoken vnto all the people, saying,(Geneva) Jer 38:1 Es hörten aber Sephatja, der Sohn Matthans, und Gedalja, der Sohn Pashurs, und Juchal, der Sohn Selemjas, und Pashur, der Sohn Malchias, die Reden, so Jeremia zu allem Volk redete und sprach:(dhs) Jer 38:1 Now Shephatiah the son of Mattan, Gedaliah the son of Pashhur, Jucal the son of Shelemiah, and Pashhur the son of Malchiah heard the words that Jeremiah had spoken to all the people, saying,(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:2 ============ Jer 38:2 "Thus says the Lord, 'He who stays in this city will die by the sword and by famine and by pestilence, but he who goes out to the Chaldeans will live and have his own life as booty and stay alive.'(nas) Jer 38:2 οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος εὗρον θερμὸν ἐν ἐρήμῳ μετὰ ὀλωλότων ἐν μαχαίρᾳ βαδίσατε καὶ μὴ ὀλέσητε τὸν Ισραηλ (lxx) Jer 38:2 Hæc dicit Dominus: Quicumque manserit in civitate hac, morietur gladio, et fame, et peste: qui autem profugerit ad Chaldæos, vivet, et erit anima ejus sospes et vivens.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:2 Thus sayth the Lord, He that remaineth in this citie, shall dye by the sworde, by the famine and by the pestilence: but hee that goeth foorth to the Caldeans, shall liue: for he shall haue his life for a praye, and shall liue.(Geneva) Jer 38:2 So spricht der HERR: Wer in dieser Stadt bleibt, der wird durch Schwert, Hunger und Pestilenz sterben müssen; wer aber hinausgeht zu den Chaldäern, der soll lebend bleiben und wird sein Leben wie eine Beute davonbringen.(dhs) Jer 38:2 "Thus says the Lord: 'He who remains in this city shall die by the sword, by famine, and by pestilence; but he who goes over to the Chaldeans shall live; his life shall be as a prize to him, and he shall live.'(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:3 ============ Jer 38:3 Thus says the Lord, 'This city will certainly be given into the hand of the army of the king of Babylon and he will capture it.'"(nas) Jer 38:3 κύριος πόρρωθεν ὤφθη αὐτῷ ἀγάπησιν αἰωνίαν ἠγάπησά σε διὰ τοῦτο εἵλκυσά σε εἰς οἰκτίρημα (lxx) Jer 38:3 Hæc dicit Dominus: Tradendo tradetur civitas hæc in manu exercitus regis Babylonis, et capiet eam.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:3 Thus sayth the Lord, This citie shall surely be giuen into the hand of the King of Babels armie, which shall take it.(Geneva) Jer 38:3 Denn also spricht der HERR: Diese Stadt soll übergeben werden dem Heer des Königs zu Babel, und sie sollen sie gewinnen.(dhs) Jer 38:3 Thus says the Lord: 'This city shall surely be given into the hand of the king of Babylon's army, which shall take it.' "(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:4 ============ Jer 38:4 Then the officials said to the king, "Now let this man be put to death, inasmuch as he is discouraging the men of war who are left in this city and all the people, by speaking such words to them; for this man is not seeking the well-being of this people but rather their harm."(nas) Jer 38:4 ἔτι οἰκοδομήσω σε καὶ οἰκοδομηθήσῃ παρθένος Ισραηλ ἔτι λήμψῃ τύμπανόν σου καὶ ἐξελεύσῃ μετὰ συναγωγῆς παιζόντων (lxx) Jer 38:4 Et dixerunt principes regi: Rogamus ut occidatur homo iste: de industria enim dissolvit manus virorum bellantium qui remanserunt in civitate hac, et manus universi populi, loquens ad eos juxta verba hæc: siquidem homo iste non quærit pacem populo huic, sed malum.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:4 Therefore the Princes sayd vnto the King, We beseech you, let this man be put to death: for thus hee weakeneth the hands of the men of warre that remaine in this citie, and the hands of all the people, in speaking such wordes vnto them: for this man seeketh not the wealth of this people, but the hurt.(Geneva) Jer 38:4 Da sprachen die Fürsten zum König: Laß doch diesen Mann töten; denn mit der Weise wendet er die Kriegsleute ab, so noch übrig sind in der Stadt, desgleichen das ganze Volk auch, weil er solche Worte zu ihnen sagt. Denn der Mann sucht nicht, was diesem Volk zum Frieden, sondern zum Unglück dient.(dhs) Jer 38:4 Therefore the princes said to the king, "Please, let this man be put to death, for thus he weakens the hands of the men of war who remain in this city, and the hands of all the people, by speaking such words to them. For this man does not seek the welfare of this people, but their harm."(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:5 ============ Jer 38:5 So King Zedekiah said, "Behold, he is in your hands; for the king can do nothing against you."(nas) Jer 38:5 ἔτι φυτεύσατε ἀμπελῶνας ἐν ὄρεσιν Σαμαρείας φυτεύσατε καὶ αἰνέσατε (lxx) Jer 38:5 Et dixit rex Sedecias: Ecce ipse in manibus vestris est: nec enim fas est regem vobis quidquam negare.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:5 Then Zedekiah the King sayd, Behold, he is in your hands, for ye King can denie you nothing.(Geneva) Jer 38:5 Der König Zedekia sprach: Siehe, er ist in euren Händen; denn der König kann nichts wider euch.(dhs) Jer 38:5 Then Zedekiah the king said, "Look, he is in your hand. For the king can do nothing against you."(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:6 ============ Jer 38:6 Then they took Jeremiah and cast him into the cistern of Malchijah the king's son, which was in the court of the guardhouse; and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. Now in the cistern there was no water but only mud, and Jeremiah sank into the mud. (nas) Jer 38:6 ὅτι ἔστιν ἡμέρα κλήσεως ἀπολογουμένων ἐν ὄρεσιν Εφραιμ ἀνάστητε καὶ ἀνάβητε εἰς Σιων πρὸς κύριον τὸν θεὸν ἡμῶν (lxx) Jer 38:6 Tulerunt ergo Jeremiam, et projecerunt eum in lacum Melchiæ filii Amelech, qui erat in vestibulo carceris: et submiserunt Jeremiam funibus in lacum, in quo non erat aqua, sed lutum: descendit itaque Jeremias in cœnum.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:6 Then tooke they Ieremiah, and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the sonne of Hammelech, that was in the court of the prison: and they let downe Ieremiah with coards: and in the dungeon there was no water but myre: so Ieremiah stacke fast in the myre.(Geneva) Jer 38:6 Da nahmen sie Jeremia und warfen ihn in die Grube Malchias, des Königssohnes, die am Vorhof des Gefängnisses war, da nicht Wasser, sondern Schlamm war, und Jeremia sank in den Schlamm.(dhs) Jer 38:6 So they took Jeremiah and cast him into the dungeon of Malchiah the king's son, which was in the court of the prison, and they let Jeremiah down with ropes. And in the dungeon there was no water, but mire. So Jeremiah sank in the mire.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:7 ============ Jer 38:7 But Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, a eunuch, while he was in the king's palace, heard that they had put Jeremiah into the cistern. Now the king was sitting in the Gate of Benjamin; (nas) Jer 38:7 ὅτι οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος τῷ Ιακωβ εὐφράνθητε καὶ χρεμετίσατε ἐπὶ κεφαλὴν ἐθνῶν ἀκουστὰ ποιήσατε καὶ αἰνέσατε εἴπατε ἔσωσεν κύριος τὸν λαὸν αὐτοῦ τὸ κατάλοιπον τοῦ Ισραηλ (lxx) Jer 38:7 Audivit autem Abdemelech Æthiops, vir eunuchus, qui erat in domo regis, quod misissent Jeremiam in lacum. Porro rex sedebat in porta Benjamin:(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:7 Now when Ebed-melech ye blacke More one of ye Eunuches, which was in the kings house, heard that they had put Ieremiah in the dungeon (then the King sate in the gate of Beniamin)(Geneva) Jer 38:7 Als aber Ebed-Melech, der Mohr, ein Kämmerer in des Königs Hause, hörte, daß man Jeremia hatte in die Grube geworfen, und der König eben saß im Tor Benjamin,(dhs) Jer 38:7 Now Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian, one of the eunuchs, who was in the king's house, heard that they had put Jeremiah in the dungeon. When the king was sitting at the Gate of Benjamin,(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:8 ============ Jer 38:8 and Ebed-melech went out from the king's palace and spoke to the king, saying, (nas) Jer 38:8 ἰδοὺ ἐγὼ ἄγω αὐτοὺς ἀπὸ βορρᾶ καὶ συνάξω αὐτοὺς ἀπ᾽ ἐσχάτου τῆς γῆς ἐν ἑορτῇ φασεκ καὶ τεκνοποιήσῃ ὄχλον πολύν καὶ ἀποστρέψουσιν ὧδε (lxx) Jer 38:8 et egressus est Abdemelech de domo regis, et locutus est ad regem, dicens:(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:8 And Ebed-melech went out of the Kings house, and spake to the King, saying,(Geneva) Jer 38:8 da ging Ebed-Melech aus des Königs Hause und redete mit dem König und sprach:(dhs) Jer 38:8 Ebed-Melech went out of the king's house and spoke to the king, saying:(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:9 ============ Jer 38:9 "My lord the king, these men have acted wickedly in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet whom they have cast into the cistern; and he will die right where he is because of the famine, for there is no more bread in the city."(nas) Jer 38:9 ἐν κλαυθμῷ ἐξῆλθον καὶ ἐν παρακλήσει ἀνάξω αὐτοὺς αὐλίζων ἐπὶ διώρυγας ὑδάτων ἐν ὁδῷ ὀρθῇ καὶ οὐ μὴ πλανηθῶσιν ἐν αὐτῇ ὅτι ἐγενόμην τῷ Ισραηλ εἰς πατέρα καὶ Εφραιμ πρωτότοκός μού ἐστιν (lxx) Jer 38:9 Domine mi rex, male fecerunt viri isti omnia quæcumque perpetrarunt contra Jeremiam prophetam, mittentes eum in lacum, ut moriatur ibi fame: non sunt enim panes ultra in civitate.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:9 My lorde the King, these men haue done euill in all that they haue done to Ieremiah the Prophet, whom they haue cast into the dungeon, and he dyeth for hunger in the place where he is: for there is no more bread in the citie.(Geneva) Jer 38:9 Mein Herr König, die Männer handeln übel an dem Propheten Jeremia, daß sie ihn haben in die Grube geworfen, da er muß Hungers sterben; denn es ist kein Brot mehr in der Stadt.(dhs) Jer 38:9 "My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done to Jeremiah the prophet, whom they have cast into the dungeon, and he is likely to die from hunger in the place where he is. For there is no more bread in the city."(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:10 ============ Jer 38:10 Then the king commanded Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying, "Take thirty men from here under your authority and bring up Jeremiah the prophet from the cistern before he dies."(nas) Jer 38:10 ἀκούσατε λόγον κυρίου ἔθνη καὶ ἀναγγείλατε εἰς νήσους τὰς μακρότερον εἴπατε ὁ λικμήσας τὸν Ισραηλ συνάξει αὐτὸν καὶ φυλάξει αὐτὸν ὡς ὁ βόσκων τὸ ποίμνιον αὐτοῦ (lxx) Jer 38:10 Præcepit itaque rex Abdemelech Æthiopi, dicens: Tolle tecum hinc triginta viros, et leva Jeremiam prophetam de lacu, antequam moriatur.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:10 Then the King commaunded Ebed-melech the blacke More, saying, Take from hence thirtie men with thee, and take Ieremiah the Prophet out of the dungeon before he dye.(Geneva) Jer 38:10 Da befahl der König Ebed-Melech, dem Mohren, und sprach: Nimm dreißig Männer mit dir von diesen und zieh den Propheten Jeremia aus der Grube, ehe denn er sterbe.(dhs) Jer 38:10 Then the king commanded Ebed-Melech the Ethiopian, saying, "Take from here thirty men with you, and lift Jeremiah the prophet out of the dungeon before he dies."(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:11 ============ Jer 38:11 So Ebed-melech took the men under his authority and went into the king's palace to a place beneath the storeroom and took from there worn-out clothes and worn-out rags and let them down by ropes into the cistern to Jeremiah. (nas) Jer 38:11 ὅτι ἐλυτρώσατο κύριος τὸν Ιακωβ ἐξείλατο αὐτὸν ἐκ χειρὸς στερεωτέρων αὐτοῦ (lxx) Jer 38:11 Assumptis ergo Abdemelech secum viris, ingressus est domum regis, quæ erat sub cellario, et tulit inde veteres pannos, et antiqua quæ computruerant, et submisit ea ad Jeremiam in lacum per funiculos.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:11 So Ebed-melech tooke the men with him and went to the house of the King vnder the treasurie, and tooke there olde rotten ragges, and olde worne cloutes, and let them downe by coards into the dungeon to Ieremiah.(Geneva) Jer 38:11 Und Ebed-Melech nahm die Männer mit sich und ging in des Königs Haus unter die Schatzkammer und nahm daselbst zerrissene und vertragene alte Lumpen und ließ sie an einem Seil hinab zu Jeremia in die Grube.(dhs) Jer 38:11 So Ebed-Melech took the men with him and went into the house of the king under the treasury, and took from there old clothes and old rags, and let them down by ropes into the dungeon to Jeremiah.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:12 ============ Jer 38:12 Then Ebed-melech the Ethiopian said to Jeremiah, "Now put these worn-out clothes and rags under your armpits under the ropes"; and Jeremiah did so. (nas) Jer 38:12 καὶ ἥξουσιν καὶ εὐφρανθήσονται ἐν τῷ ὄρει Σιων καὶ ἥξουσιν ἐπ᾽ ἀγαθὰ κυρίου ἐπὶ γῆν σίτου καὶ οἴνου καὶ καρπῶν καὶ κτηνῶν καὶ προβάτων καὶ ἔσται ἡ ψυχὴ αὐτῶν ὥσπερ ξύλον ἔγκαρπον καὶ οὐ πεινάσουσιν ἔτι (lxx) Jer 38:12 Dixitque Abdemelech Æthiops ad Jeremiam: Pone veteres pannos, et hæc scissa et putrida, sub cubito manuum tuarum, et super funes. Fecit ergo Jeremias sic,(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:12 And Ebed-melech the blacke More sayde vnto Ieremiah, Put now these olde rotten ragges and worne, vnder thine arme holes, betweene the coards; Ieremiah did so.(Geneva) Jer 38:12 Und Ebed-Melech, der Mohr, sprach zu Jeremia: Lege diese zerrissenen und vertragenen alten Lumpen unter deine Achseln um das Seil. (nas) Jer 38:13 τότε χαρήσονται παρθένοι ἐν συναγωγῇ νεανίσκων καὶ πρεσβῦται χαρήσονται καὶ στρέψω τὸ πένθος αὐτῶν εἰς χαρμονὴν καὶ ποιήσω αὐτοὺς εὐφραινομένους (lxx) Jer 38:13 et extraxerunt Jeremiam funibus, et eduxerunt eum de lacu: mansit autem Jeremias in vestibulo carceris.~(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:13 So they drewe vp Ieremiah with coards and tooke him vp out of the dungeon, and Ieremiah remained in the court of the prison.(Geneva) Jer 38:13 Und sie zogen Jeremia herauf aus der Grube an den Stricken; und blieb also Jeremia im Vorhof des Gefängnisses.(dhs) Jer 38:13 So they pulled Jeremiah up with ropes and lifted him out of the dungeon. And Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:14 ============ Jer 38:14 Then King Zedekiah sent and had Jeremiah the prophet brought to him at the third entrance that is in the house of the Lord; and the king said to Jeremiah, "I am going to ask you something; do not hide anything from me."(nas) Jer 38:14 μεγαλυνῶ καὶ μεθύσω τὴν ψυχὴν τῶν ἱερέων υἱῶν Λευι καὶ ὁ λαός μου τῶν ἀγαθῶν μου ἐμπλησθήσεται (lxx) Jer 38:14 Et misit rex Sedecias, et tulit ad se Jeremiam prophetam ad ostium tertium quod erat in domo Domini: et dixit rex ad Jeremiam: Interrogo ego te sermonem, ne abscondas a me aliquid.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:14 Then Zedekiah the King sent, and tooke Ieremiah the Prophet vnto him, into the thirde entrie that is in the House of the Lorde, and the King sayd vnto Ieremiah, I wil aske thee a thing: hide nothing from me.(Geneva) Jer 38:14 Und der König Zedekia sandte hin und ließ den Propheten Jeremia zu sich holen unter den dritten Eingang am Hause des HERRN. Und der König sprach zu Jeremia: Ich will dich etwas fragen; verhalte mir nichts.(dhs) Jer 38:14 Then Zedekiah the king sent and had Jeremiah the prophet brought to him at the third entrance of the house of the Lord. And the king said to Jeremiah, "I will ask you something. Hide nothing from me."(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:15 ============ Jer 38:15 Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "If I tell you, will you not certainly put me to death? Besides, if I give you advice, you will not listen to me."(nas) Jer 38:15 οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος φωνὴ ἐν Ραμα ἠκούσθη θρήνου καὶ κλαυθμοῦ καὶ ὀδυρμοῦ Ραχηλ ἀποκλαιομένη οὐκ ἤθελεν παύσασθαι ἐπὶ τοῖς υἱοῖς αὐτῆς ὅτι οὐκ εἰσίν (lxx) Jer 38:15 Dixit autem Jeremias ad Sedeciam: Si annuntiavero tibi, numquid non interficies me? et si consilium dedero tibi, non me audies.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:15 Then Ieremiah sayd to Zedekiah, If I declare it vnto thee, wilt not thou slay me? and if I giue thee counsell, thou wilt not heare me.(Geneva) Jer 38:15 Jeremia sprach zu Zedekia: Sage ich dir etwas, so tötest du mich doch; gebe ich dir aber einen Rat, so gehorchst du mir nicht.(dhs) Jer 38:15 Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "If I declare it to you, will you not surely put me to death? And if I give you advice, you will not listen to me."(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:16 ============ Jer 38:16 But King Zedekiah swore to Jeremiah in secret saying, "As the Lord lives, who made this life for us, surely I will not put you to death nor will I give you over to the hand of these men who are seeking your life." (nas) Jer 38:16 οὕτως εἶπεν κύριος διαλιπέτω ἡ φωνή σου ἀπὸ κλαυθμοῦ καὶ οἱ ὀφθαλμοί σου ἀπὸ δακρύων σου ὅτι ἔστιν μισθὸς τοῖς σοῖς ἔργοις καὶ ἐπιστρέψουσιν ἐκ γῆς ἐχθρῶν (lxx) Jer 38:16 Juravit ergo rex Sedecias Jeremiæ clam, dicens: Vivit Dominus, qui fecit nobis animam hanc, si occidero te, et si tradidero te in manus virorum istorum qui quærunt animam tuam.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:16 So the King sware secretly vnto Ieremiah, saying, As the Lorde liueth that made vs these soules, I will not slay thee, nor giue thee into the hands of those men that seeke thy life.(Geneva) Jer 38:16 Da schwur der König Zedekia dem Jeremia heimlich und sprach: So wahr der HERR lebt, der uns dieses Leben gegeben hat, so will ich dich nicht töten noch den Männern in die Hände geben, die dir nach dem Leben stehen.(dhs) Jer 38:16 So Zedekiah the king swore secretly to Jeremiah, saying, "As the Lord lives, who made our very souls, I will not put you to death, nor will I give you into the hand of these men who seek your life."(nkjv) ======= Jeremiah 38:17 ============ Jer 38:17 Then Jeremiah said to Zedekiah, "Thus says the Lord God of hosts, the God of Israel, 'If you will indeed go out to the officers of the king of Babylon, then you will live, this city will not be burned with fire, and you and your household will survive. So he reported to them in accordance with all these words which the king had commanded; and they ceased speaking with him, since the conversation had not been overheard. (nas) Jer 38:27 διὰ τοῦτο ἰδοὺ ἡμέραι ἔρχονται φησὶν κύριος καὶ σπερῶ τὸν Ισραηλ καὶ τὸν Ιουδαν σπέρμα ἀνθρώπου καὶ σπέρμα κτήνους (lxx) Jer 38:27 Venerunt ergo omnes principes ad Jeremiam, et interrogaverunt eum, et locutus est eis juxta omnia verba quæ præceperat ei rex: et cessaverunt ab eo: nihil enim fuerat auditum.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:27 Then came all the princes vnto Ieremiah and asked him; he tolde them according to all these wordes that the King had commaunded: so they left off speaking with him, for the matter was not perceiued.(Geneva) Jer 38:27 Da kamen alle Fürsten zu Jeremia und fragten ihn; und er sagte ihnen, wie ihm der König befohlen hatte. (nas) Jer 38:28 καὶ ἔσται ὥσπερ ἐγρηγόρουν ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς καθαιρεῖν καὶ κακοῦν οὕτως γρηγορήσω ἐπ᾽ αὐτοὺς τοῦ οἰκοδομεῖν καὶ καταφυτεύειν φησὶν κύριος (lxx) Jer 38:28 Mansit vero Jeremias in vestibulo carceris usque ad diem quo capta est Jerusalem: et factum est ut caperetur Jerusalem.(vulgate) Jeremiah 38:28 So Ieremiah abode still in the court of the prison, vntill the day that Ierusalem was taken: and he was there, when Ierusalem was taken.(Geneva) Jer 38:28 Und Jeremia blieb im Vorhof des Gefängnisses bis auf den Tag, da Jerusalem gewonnen ward.(dhs) Jer 38:28 Now Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison until the day that Jerusalem was taken.
