To the place where the rivers flow, There they flow again. Non saturatur oculus visu, nec auris auditu impletur.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 1:8 All things are full of labour: man cannot vtter it: the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the eare filled with hearing.(Geneva) Ecl 1:8 Es sind alle Dinge so voll Mühe, daß es niemand ausreden kann. So there is nothing new under the sun. (nas) Ecl 1:9 τί τὸ γεγονός αὐτὸ τὸ γενησόμενον καὶ τί τὸ πεποιημένον αὐτὸ τὸ ποιηθησόμενον καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν πᾶν πρόσφατον ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον (lxx) Ecl 1:9 Quid est quod fuit? Ipsum quod futurum est. Quid est quod factum est? Ipsum quod faciendum est.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 1:9 What is it that hath bene? That that shalbe: and what is it that hath bene done? Already it has existed for ages Which were before us. (nas) Ecl 1:10 ὃς λαλήσει καὶ ἐρεῖ ἰδὲ τοῦτο καινόν ἐστιν ἤδη γέγονεν ἐν τοῖς αἰῶσιν τοῖς γενομένοις ἀπὸ ἔμπροσθεν ἡμῶν (lxx) Ecl 1:10 Nihil sub sole novum, nec valet quisquam dicere: Ecce hoc recens est: jam enim præcessit in sæculis quæ fuerunt ante nos.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 1:10 Is there any thing, whereof one may say, Beholde this, it is newe? It hath bene already in the olde time that was before vs.(Geneva) Ecl 1:10 Geschieht auch etwas, davon man sagen möchte: Siehe, das ist neu? Es ist zuvor auch geschehen in den langen Zeiten, die vor uns gewesen sind.(dhs) Ecl 1:10 Is there anything of which it may be said, "See, this is new"? It has already been in ancient times before us.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 1:11 ============ Ecl 1:11 There is no remembrance of earlier things; And also of the later things which will occur, There will be for them no remembrance Among those who will come later still. (nas) Ecl 1:11 οὐκ ἔστιν μνήμη τοῖς πρώτοις καί γε τοῖς ἐσχάτοις γενομένοις οὐκ ἔσται αὐτοῖς μνήμη μετὰ τῶν γενησομένων εἰς τὴν ἐσχάτην (lxx) Ecl 1:11 Non est priorum memoria; sed nec eorum quidem quæ postea futura sunt erit recordatio apud eos qui futuri sunt in novissimo.]~(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 1:11 There is no memorie of the former, neither shall there be a remembrance of the latter that shalbe, with them that shall come after.(Geneva) Ecl 1:11 Man gedenkt nicht derer, die zuvor gewesen sind; also auch derer, so hernach kommen, wird man nicht gedenken bei denen, die darnach sein werden.(dhs) Ecl 1:11 There is no remembrance of former things, Nor will there be any remembrance of things that are to come By those who will come after.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 1:12 ============ Ecl 1:12 I, the Preacher, have been king over Israel in Jerusalem. (nas) Ecl 1:12 ἐγὼ Ἐκκλησιαστὴς ἐγενόμην βασιλεὺς ἐπὶ Ισραηλ ἐν Ιερουσαλημ (lxx) Ecl 1:12 [Ego Ecclesiastes fui rex Israël in Jerusalem;(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 1:12 I the Preacher haue bene King ouer Israel in Ierusalem:(Geneva) Ecl 1:12 Ich, der Prediger, war König zu Jerusalem(dhs) Ecl 1:12 I, the Preacher, was king over Israel in Jerusalem.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 1:13 ============ Ecl 1:13 And I set my mind to seek and explore by wisdom concerning all that has been done under heaven. It is a grievous task which God has given to the sons of men to be afflicted with. (nas) Ecl 1:13 καὶ ἔδωκα τὴν καρδίαν μου τοῦ ἐκζητῆσαι καὶ τοῦ κατασκέψασθαι ἐν τῇ σοφίᾳ περὶ πάντων τῶν γινομένων ὑπὸ τὸν οὐρανόν ὅτι περισπασμὸν πονηρὸν ἔδωκεν ὁ θεὸς τοῖς υἱοῖς τοῦ ἀνθρώπου τοῦ περισπᾶσθαι ἐν αὐτῷ (lxx) Ecl 1:13 et proposui in animo meo quærere et investigare sapienter de omnibus quæ fiunt sub sole. Hanc occupationem pessimam dedit Deus filiis hominum, ut occuparentur in ea.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 1:13 And I haue giuen mine heart to search and finde out wisdome by all things that are done vnder the heauen: (this sore trauaile hath GOD giuen to the sonnes of men, to humble them thereby)(Geneva) Ecl 1:13 und richtete mein Herz zu suchen und zu forschen weislich alles, was man unter dem Himmel tut. (nas) Ecl 1:14 εἶδον σὺν πάντα τὰ ποιήματα τὰ πεποιημένα ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον καὶ ἰδοὺ τὰ πάντα ματαιότης καὶ προαίρεσις πνεύματος (lxx) Ecl 1:14 Vidi cuncta quæ fiunt sub sole, et ecce universa vanitas et afflictio spiritus.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 1:14 I haue considered all the workes that are done vnder the sunne, and beholde, all is vanitie, and vexation of the spirit.(Geneva) Ecl 1:14 Ich sah an alles Tun, das unter der Sonne geschieht; und siehe, es war alles eitel und Haschen nach dem Wind.(dhs) Ecl 1:14 I have seen all the works that are done under the sun; and indeed, all is vanity and grasping for the wind.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 1:15 ============ Ecl 1:15 What is crooked cannot be straightened and what is lacking cannot be counted. (nas) Ecl 1:15 διεστραμμένον οὐ δυνήσεται τοῦ ἐπικοσμηθῆναι καὶ ὑστέρημα οὐ δυνήσεται τοῦ ἀριθμηθῆναι (lxx) Ecl 1:15 Perversi difficile corriguntur, et stultorum infinitus est numerus.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 1:15 That which is crooked, can none make straight: and that which faileth, cannot be nombred.(Geneva) Ecl 1:15 Krumm kann nicht schlicht werden noch, was fehlt, gezählt werden.(dhs) Ecl 1:15 What is crooked cannot be made straight, And what is lacking cannot be numbered.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 1:16 ============ Ecl 1:16 I said to myself, "Behold, I have magnified and increased wisdom more than all who were over Jerusalem before me; and my mind has observed a wealth of wisdom and knowledge."(nas) Ecl 1:16 ἐλάλησα ἐγὼ ἐν καρδίᾳ μου τῷ λέγειν ἐγὼ ἰδοὺ ἐμεγαλύνθην καὶ προσέθηκα σοφίαν ἐπὶ πᾶσιν οἳ ἐγένοντο ἔμπροσθέν μου ἐν Ιερουσαλημ καὶ καρδία μου εἶδεν πολλά σοφίαν καὶ γνῶσιν (lxx) Ecl 1:16 Locutus sum in corde meo, dicens: Ecce magnus effectus sum, et præcessi omnes sapientia qui fuerunt ante me in Jerusalem; et mens mea contemplata est multa sapienter, et didici.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 1:16 I thought in mine heart, and said, Behold, I am become great, and excell in wisdome all them that haue bene before me in Ierusalem: and mine heart hath seene much wisedome and knowledge.(Geneva) Ecl 1:16 Ich sprach in meinem Herzen: Siehe, ich bin herrlich geworden und habe mehr Weisheit denn alle, die vor mir gewesen sind zu Jerusalem, und mein Herz hat viel gelernt und erfahren.(dhs) Ecl 1:16 I communed with my heart, saying, "Look, I have attained greatness, and have gained more wisdom than all who were before me in Jerusalem. (nas) Ecl 1:17 καὶ ἔδωκα καρδίαν μου τοῦ γνῶναι σοφίαν καὶ γνῶσιν παραβολὰς καὶ ἐπιστήμην ἔγνων ὅτι καί γε τοῦτ᾽ ἔστιν προαίρεσις πνεύματος (lxx) Ecl 1:17 Dedique cor meum ut scirem prudentiam atque doctrinam, erroresque et stultitiam; et agnovi quod in his quoque esset labor et afflictio spiritus:(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 1:17 And I gaue mine heart to knowe wisdome and knowledge, madnes and foolishnes: I knew also that this is a vexation of the spirit.(Geneva) Ecl 1:17 Und richtete auch mein Herz darauf, daß ich erkennte Weisheit und erkennte Tollheit und Torheit. (nas) Ecl 2:1 εἶπον ἐγὼ ἐν καρδίᾳ μου δεῦρο δὴ πειράσω σε ἐν εὐφροσύνῃ καὶ ἰδὲ ἐν ἀγαθῷ καὶ ἰδοὺ καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης (lxx) Ecl 2:1 [Dixi ego in corde meo: Vadam, et affluam deliciis, et fruar bonis; et vidi quod hoc quoque esset vanitas.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:1 I said in mine heart, Goe to nowe, I will proue thee with ioy: therefore take thou pleasure in pleasant things: and beholde, this also is vanitie.(Geneva) Ecl 2:1 Ich sprach in meinem Herzen: Wohlan, ich will wohl leben und gute Tage haben!
