Also I possessed flocks and herds larger than all who preceded me in Jerusalem. (nas) Ecl 2:7 ἐκτησάμην δούλους καὶ παιδίσκας καὶ οἰκογενεῖς ἐγένοντό μοι καί γε κτῆσις βουκολίου καὶ ποιμνίου πολλὴ ἐγένετό μοι ὑπὲρ πάντας τοὺς γενομένους ἔμπροσθέν μου ἐν Ιερουσαλημ (lxx) Ecl 2:7 Possedi servos et ancillas, multamque familiam habui: armenta quoque, et magnos ovium greges, ultra omnes qui fuerunt ante me in Jerusalem;(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:7 I haue gotten seruants and maides, and had children borne in the house: also I had great possession of beeues and sheepe aboue all that were before me in Ierusalem.(Geneva) Ecl 2:7 ich hatte Knechte und Mägde und auch Gesinde, im Hause geboren; ich hatte eine größere Habe an Rindern und Schafen denn alle, die vor mir zu Jerusalem gewesen waren;(dhs) Ecl 2:7 I acquired male and female servants, and had servants born in my house. Yes, I had greater possessions of herds and flocks than all who were in Jerusalem before me.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:8 ============ Ecl 2:8 Also, I collected for myself silver and gold and the treasure of kings and provinces. I provided for myself male and female singers and the pleasures of men--many concubines. (nas) Ecl 2:8 συνήγαγόν μοι καί γε ἀργύριον καὶ χρυσίον καὶ περιουσιασμοὺς βασιλέων καὶ τῶν χωρῶν ἐποίησά μοι ᾄδοντας καὶ ᾀδούσας καὶ ἐντρυφήματα υἱῶν τοῦ ἀνθρώπου οἰνοχόον καὶ οἰνοχόας (lxx) Ecl 2:8 coacervavi mihi argentum et aurum, et substantias regum ac provinciarum; feci mihi cantores et cantatrices, et delicias filiorum hominum, scyphos, et urceos in ministerio ad vina fundenda;(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:8 I haue gathered vnto me also siluer and gold, and the chiefe treasures of Kings & prouinces: I haue prouided me men singers and women singers, and the delites of the sonnes of men, as a woman taken captiue, & women taken captiues.(Geneva) Ecl 2:8 ich sammelte mir auch Silber und Gold und von den Königen und Ländern einen Schatz; ich schaffte mir Sänger und Sängerinnen und die Wonne der Menschen, allerlei Saitenspiel;(dhs) Ecl 2:8 I also gathered for myself silver and gold and the special treasures of kings and of the provinces. I acquired male and female singers, the delights of the sons of men, and musical instruments of all kinds.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:9 ============ Ecl 2:9 Then I became great and increased more than all who preceded me in Jerusalem. My wisdom also stood by me. (nas) Ecl 2:9 καὶ ἐμεγαλύνθην καὶ προσέθηκα παρὰ πάντας τοὺς γενομένους ἔμπροσθέν μου ἐν Ιερουσαλημ καί γε σοφία μου ἐστάθη μοι (lxx) Ecl 2:9 et supergressus sum opibus omnes qui ante me fuerunt in Jerusalem: sapientia quoque perseveravit mecum.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:9 And I was great, & increased aboue all that were before me in Ierusalem: also my wisedome remained with me.(Geneva) Ecl 2:9 und nahm zu über alle, die vor mir zu Jerusalem gewesen waren; auch blieb meine Weisheit bei mir;(dhs) Ecl 2:9 So I became great and excelled more than all who were before me in Jerusalem. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart was pleased because of all my labor and this was my reward for all my labor. (nas) Ecl 2:10 καὶ πᾶν ὃ ᾔτησαν οἱ ὀφθαλμοί μου οὐχ ὑφεῖλον ἀπ᾽ αὐτῶν οὐκ ἀπεκώλυσα τὴν καρδίαν μου ἀπὸ πάσης εὐφροσύνης ὅτι καρδία μου εὐφράνθη ἐν παντὶ μόχθῳ μου καὶ τοῦτο ἐγένετο μερίς μου ἀπὸ παντὸς μόχθου μου (lxx) Ecl 2:10 Et omnia quæ desideraverunt oculi mei non negavi eis, nec prohibui cor meum quin omni voluptate frueretur, et oblectaret se in his quæ præparaveram; et hanc ratus sum partem meam si uterer labore meo.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:10 And whatsoeuer mine eyes desired, I withheld it not from them: I withdrew not mine heart from any ioy: for mine heart reioyced in al my labour: & this was my portion of all my trauaile.(Geneva) Ecl 2:10 und alles, was meine Augen wünschten, das ließ ich ihnen und wehrte meinem Herzen keine Freude, daß es fröhlich war von aller meiner Arbeit; und das hielt ich für mein Teil von aller meiner Arbeit.(dhs) Ecl 2:10 Whatever my eyes desired I did not keep from them. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, For my heart rejoiced in all my labor; And this was my reward from all my labor.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:11 ============ Ecl 2:11 Thus I considered all my activities which my hands had done and the labor which I had exerted, and behold all was vanity and striving after wind and there was no profit under the sun. (nas) Ecl 2:11 καὶ ἐπέβλεψα ἐγὼ ἐν πᾶσιν ποιήμασίν μου οἷς ἐποίησαν αἱ χεῖρές μου καὶ ἐν μόχθῳ ᾧ ἐμόχθησα τοῦ ποιεῖν καὶ ἰδοὺ τὰ πάντα ματαιότης καὶ προαίρεσις πνεύματος καὶ οὐκ ἔστιν περισσεία ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον (lxx) Ecl 2:11 Cumque me convertissem ad universa opera quæ fecerant manus meæ, et ad labores in quibus frustra sudaveram, vidi in omnibus vanitatem et afflictionem animi, et nihil permanere sub sole.]~(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:11 Then I looked on all my workes that mine hands had wrought, and on the trauaile that I had laboured to doe: and beholde, all is vanitie and vexation of the spirit: and there is no profite vnder the sunne.(Geneva) Ecl 2:11 Da ich aber ansah alle meine Werke, die meine Hand gemacht hatte, und die Mühe, die ich gehabt hatte, siehe, da war es alles eitel und Haschen nach dem Wind und kein Gewinn unter der Sonne.(dhs) Ecl 2:11 Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:12 ============ Ecl 2:12 So I turned to consider wisdom, madness and folly; for what will the man do who will come after the king except what has already been done? (nas) Ecl 2:12 καὶ ἐπέβλεψα ἐγὼ τοῦ ἰδεῖν σοφίαν καὶ περιφορὰν καὶ ἀφροσύνην ὅτι τίς ὁ ἄνθρωπος ὃς ἐπελεύσεται ὀπίσω τῆς βουλῆς τὰ ὅσα ἐποίησεν αὐτήν (lxx) Ecl 2:12 [Transivi ad contemplandam sapientiam, erroresque, et stultitiam. (Quid est, inquam, homo, ut sequi possit regem, factorem suum?)(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:12 And I turned to beholde wisedome, and madnes and follie: (for who is the man that will come after the King in things, which men nowe haue done?)(Geneva) Ecl 2:12 Da wandte ich mich, zu sehen die Weisheit und die Tollheit und Torheit. Denn wer weiß, was der für ein Mensch werden wird nach dem König, den sie schon bereit gemacht haben?(dhs) Ecl 2:12 Then I turned myself to consider wisdom and madness and folly; For what can the man do who succeeds the king?-- Only what he has already done.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:13 ============ Ecl 2:13 And I saw that wisdom excels folly as light excels darkness. (nas) Ecl 2:13 καὶ εἶδον ἐγὼ ὅτι ἔστιν περισσεία τῇ σοφίᾳ ὑπὲρ τὴν ἀφροσύνην ὡς περισσεία τοῦ φωτὸς ὑπὲρ τὸ σκότος (lxx) Ecl 2:13 Et vidi quod tantum præcederet sapientia stultitiam, quantum differt lux a tenebris.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:13 Then I saw that there is profite in wisdome, more then in follie: as the light is more excellent then darkenes.(Geneva) Ecl 2:13 Da ich aber sah, daß die Weisheit die Torheit übertraf wie das Licht die Finsternis;(dhs) Ecl 2:13 Then I saw that wisdom excels folly As light excels darkness.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:14 ============ Ecl 2:14 The wise man's eyes are in his head, but the fool walks in darkness. And yet I know that one fate befalls them both. (nas) Ecl 2:14 τοῦ σοφοῦ οἱ ὀφθαλμοὶ αὐτοῦ ἐν κεφαλῇ αὐτοῦ καὶ ὁ ἄφρων ἐν σκότει πορεύεται καὶ ἔγνων καί γε ἐγὼ ὅτι συνάντημα ἓν συναντήσεται τοῖς πᾶσιν αὐτοῖς (lxx) Ecl 2:14 Sapientis oculi in capite ejus; stultus in tenebris ambulat: et didici quod unus utriusque esset interitus.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:14 For the wise mans eyes are in his head, but the foole walketh in darknes: yet I know also that the same condition falleth to them all.(Geneva) Ecl 2:14 daß dem Weisen seine Augen im Haupt stehen, aber die Narren in der Finsternis gehen; und merkte doch, daß es einem geht wie dem andern.(dhs) Ecl 2:14 The wise man's eyes are in his head, But the fool walks in darkness. Why then have I been extremely wise?" So I said to myself, "This too is vanity."(nas) Ecl 2:15 καὶ εἶπα ἐγὼ ἐν καρδίᾳ μου ὡς συνάντημα τοῦ ἄφρονος καί γε ἐμοὶ συναντήσεταί μοι καὶ ἵνα τί ἐσοφισάμην ἐγὼ τότε περισσὸν ἐλάλησα ἐν καρδίᾳ μου διότι ἄφρων ἐκ περισσεύματος λαλεῖ ὅτι καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης (lxx) Ecl 2:15 Et dixi in corde meo: Si unus et stulti et meus occasus erit, quid mihi prodest quod majorem sapientiæ dedi operam? Locutusque cum mente mea, animadverti quod hoc quoque esset vanitas.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:15 Then I thought in mine heart, It befalleth vnto me, as it befalleth to ye foole. Why therefore doe I then labour to be more wise? And I sayd in mine heart, that this also is vanitie.(Geneva) Ecl 2:15 Da dachte ich in meinem Herzen: Weil es denn mir geht wie dem Narren, warum habe ich denn nach Weisheit getrachtet? Da dachte ich in meinem Herzen, daß solches auch eitel sei.(dhs) Ecl 2:15 So I said in my heart, "As it happens to the fool, It also happens to me, And why was I then more wise?" Then I said in my heart, "This also is vanity."(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:16 ============ Ecl 2:16 For there is no lasting remembrance of the wise man as with the fool, inasmuch as in the coming days all will be forgotten. And how the wise man and the fool alike die! (nas) Ecl 2:16 ὅτι οὐκ ἔστιν μνήμη τοῦ σοφοῦ μετὰ τοῦ ἄφρονος εἰς αἰῶνα καθότι ἤδη αἱ ἡμέραι αἱ ἐρχόμεναι τὰ πάντα ἐπελήσθη καὶ πῶς ἀποθανεῖται ὁ σοφὸς μετὰ τοῦ ἄφρονος (lxx) Ecl 2:16 Non enim erit memoria sapientis similiter ut stulti in perpetuum, et futura tempora oblivione cuncta pariter operient: moritur doctus similiter ut indoctus.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:16 For there shalbe no remembrance of the wise, nor of the foole for euer: for that that now is, in the dayes to come shall all be forgotten; howe dyeth the wise man, as doeth the foole?(Geneva) Ecl 2:16 Denn man gedenkt des Weisen nicht immerdar, ebenso wenig wie des Narren, und die künftigen Tage vergessen alles; und wie der Narr stirbt, also auch der Weise.(dhs) Ecl 2:16 For there is no more remembrance of the wise than of the fool forever, Since all that now is will be forgotten in the days to come. And how does a wise man die? As the fool!(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:17 ============ Ecl 2:17 So I hated life, for the work which had been done under the sun was grievous to me; because everything is futility and striving after wind. (nas) Ecl 2:18 καὶ ἐμίσησα ἐγὼ σὺν πάντα μόχθον μου ὃν ἐγὼ μοχθῶ ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον ὅτι ἀφίω αὐτὸν τῷ ἀνθρώπῳ τῷ γινομένῳ μετ᾽ ἐμέ (lxx) Ecl 2:18 [Rursus detestatus sum omnem industriam meam, qua sub sole studiosissime laboravi, habiturus hæredem post me,(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:18 I hated also all my labour, wherein I had trauailed vnder the sunne, which I shall leaue to the man that shalbe after me.(Geneva) Ecl 2:18 Und mich verdroß alle meine Arbeit, die ich unter der Sonne hatte, daß ich dieselbe einem Menschen lassen müßte, der nach mir sein sollte.(dhs) Ecl 2:18 Then I hated all my labor in which I had toiled under the sun, because I must leave it to the man who will come after me.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:19 ============ Ecl 2:19 And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have control over all the fruit of my labor for which I have labored by acting wisely under the sun. This too is vanity. (nas) Ecl 2:19 καὶ τίς οἶδεν εἰ σοφὸς ἔσται ἢ ἄφρων καὶ ἐξουσιάζεται ἐν παντὶ μόχθῳ μου ᾧ ἐμόχθησα καὶ ᾧ ἐσοφισάμην ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον καί γε τοῦτο ματαιότης (lxx) Ecl 2:19 quem ignoro utrum sapiens an stultus futurus sit, et dominabitur in laboribus meis, quibus desudavi et sollicitus fui: et est quidquam tam vanum?(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:19 And who knoweth whether he shalbe wise or foolish? yet shall hee haue rule ouer all my labour, wherein I haue trauailed, and wherein I haue shewed my selfe wise vnder the sunne. This is also vanitie.(Geneva) Ecl 2:19 Denn wer weiß, ob er weise oder toll sein wird? und soll doch herrschen in aller meiner Arbeit, die ich weislich getan habe unter der Sonne. This also is vanity.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:20 ============ Ecl 2:20 Therefore I completely despaired of all the fruit of my labor for which I had labored under the sun. (nas) Ecl 2:20 καὶ ἐπέστρεψα ἐγὼ τοῦ ἀποτάξασθαι τῇ καρδίᾳ μου ἐπὶ παντὶ τῷ μόχθῳ ᾧ ἐμόχθησα ὑπὸ τὸν ἥλιον (lxx) Ecl 2:20 Unde cessavi, renuntiavitque cor meum ultra laborare sub sole.(vulgate) Ecclesiastes 2:20 Therefore I went about to make mine heart abhorre all the labour, wherein I had trauailed vnder the sunne.(Geneva) Ecl 2:20 Darum wandte ich mich, daß mein Herz abließe von aller Arbeit, die ich tat unter der Sonne.(dhs) Ecl 2:20 Therefore I turned my heart and despaired of all the labor in which I had toiled under the sun.(nkjv) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:21 ============ Ecl 2:21 When there is a man who has labored with wisdom, knowledge and skill, then he gives his legacy to one who has not labored with them. This too is vanity and a great evil.
