et l'Eternel le fit mourir.(FR) 7 ׃38 וַיְהִ֗י עֵ֚ר בְּכ֣וֹר יְהוּדָ֔ה רַ֖ע בְּעֵינֵ֣י יְהוָ֑ה וַיְמִתֵ֖הוּ יְהוָֽה׃ Genesis Gen 38:7 But Er, Judah's firstborn, was evil in the sight of the Lord, so the Lord took his life.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:8 ============ Gen 38:8 And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.(KJV) Genesis 38:8 Then Iudah said to Onan, Goe in vnto thy brothers wife, and do the office of a kinsman vnto her, and raise vp seede vnto thy brother.(Geneva) Genèse 38:8 Alors Juda dit à Onan: Va vers la femme de ton frère, prends-la, comme beau-frère, et suscite une postérité à ton frère.(FR) 8 ׃38 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוּדָה֙ לְאוֹנָ֔ן בֹּ֛א אֶל־אֵ֥שֶׁת אָחִ֖יךָ וְיַבֵּ֣ם אֹתָ֑הּ וְהָקֵ֥ם זֶ֖רַע לְאָחִֽיךָ׃ Genesis Gen 38:8 Then Judah said to Onan, "Go in to your brother's wife, and perform your duty as a brother-in-law to her, and raise up offspring for your brother."(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:9 ============ Gen 38:9 And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.(KJV) Genesis 38:9 And Onan knewe that the seede should not be his: therefore when he went in vnto his brothers wife, he spilled it on the grounde, least he should giue seede vnto his brother.(Geneva) Genèse 38:9 Onan, sachant que cette postérité ne serait pas à lui, se souillait à terre lorsqu'il allait vers la femme de son frère, afin de ne pas donner de postérité à son frère.(FR) 9 ׃38 וַיֵּ֣דַע אוֹנָ֔ן כִּ֛י לֹּ֥א ל֖וֹ יִהְיֶ֣ה הַזָּ֑רַע וְהָיָ֞ה אִם־בָּ֨א אֶל־אֵ֤שֶׁת אָחִיו֙ וְשִׁחֵ֣ת אַ֔רְצָה לְבִלְתִּ֥י נְתָן־זֶ֖רַע לְאָחִֽיו׃ Genesis Gen 38:9 Onan knew that the offspring would not be his; so when he went in to his brother's wife, he wasted his seed on the ground in order not to give offspring to his brother.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:10 ============ Gen 38:10 And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him also.(KJV) Genesis 38:10 And it was wicked in the eyes of the Lord, which he did: wherefore he slewe him also.(Geneva) Genèse 38:10 Ce qu'il faisait déplut à l'Eternel, qui le fit aussi mourir.(FR) 10 ׃38 וַיֵּ֛רַע בְּעֵינֵ֥י יְהוָ֖ה אֲשֶׁ֣ר עָשָׂ֑ה וַיָּ֖מֶת גַּם־אֹתֽוֹ׃ Genesis Gen 38:10 But what he did was displeasing in the sight of the Lord; so He took his life also.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:11 ============ Gen 38:11 Then said Judah to Tamar his daughter in law, Remain a widow at thy father's house, till Shelah my son be grown: for he said, Lest peradventure he die also, as his brethren did. And Tamar went and dwelt in her father's house.(KJV) Genesis 38:11 Then said Iudah to Tamar his daughter in lawe, Remaine a widowe in thy fathers house, till Shelah my sonne growe vp (for he thought thus, Least he die as well as his brethren.) So Tamar went and dwelt in her fathers house.(Geneva) Genèse 38:11 Alors Juda dit à Tamar, sa belle-fille: Demeure veuve dans la maison de ton père, jusqu'à ce que Schéla, mon fils, soit grand. Il parlait ainsi dans la crainte que Schéla ne mourût comme ses frères. Tamar s'en alla, et elle habita dans la maison de son père.(FR) 11 ׃38 וַיֹּ֣אמֶר יְהוּדָה֩ לְתָמָ֨ר כַּלָּת֜וֹ שְׁבִ֧י אַלְמָנָ֣ה בֵית־אָבִ֗יךְ עַד־יִגְדַּל֙ שֵׁלָ֣ה בְנְ֔י כִּ֣י אָמַ֔ר פֶּן־יָמ֥וּת גַּם־ה֖וּא כְּאֶחָ֑יו וַתֵּ֣לֶךְ תָּמָ֔ר וַתֵּ֖שֶׁב בֵּ֥ית אָבִֽיהָ׃ Genesis Gen 38:11 Then Judah said to his daughter-in-law Tamar, "Remain a widow in your father's house until my son Shelah grows up"; for he thought, "I am afraid that he too may die like his brothers." So Tamar went and lived in her father's house.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:12 ============ Gen 38:12 And in process of time the daughter of Shuah Judah's wife died; and Judah was comforted, and went up unto his sheepshearers to Timnath, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.(KJV) Genesis 38:12 And in processe of time also the daughter of Shuah Iudahs wife dyed. Then Iudah, when he had left mourning, went vp to his sheepe sherers to Timnah, he, and his neighbour Hirah the Adullamite.(Geneva) Genèse 38:12 Les jours s'écoulèrent, et la fille de Schua, femme de Juda, mourut. Lorsque Juda fut consolé, il monta à Thimna, vers ceux qui tondaient ses brebis, lui et son ami Hira, l'Adullamite.(FR) 12 ׃38 וַיִּרְבּוּ֙ הַיָּמִ֔ים וַתָּ֖מָת בַּת־שׁ֣וּעַ אֵֽשֶׁת־יְהוּדָ֑ה וַיִּנָּ֣חֶם יְהוּדָ֗ה וַיַּ֜עַל עַל־גֹּֽזֲזֵ֤י צֹאנוֹ֙ ה֗וּא וְחִירָ֛ה רֵעֵ֥הוּ הָעֲדֻלָּמִ֖י תִּמְנָֽתָה׃ Genesis Gen 38:12 Now after a considerable time Shua's daughter, the wife of Judah, died; and when the time of mourning was ended, Judah went up to his sheepshearers at Timnah, he and his friend Hirah the Adullamite.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:13 ============ Gen 38:13 And it was told Tamar, saying, Behold thy father in law goeth up to Timnath to shear his sheep.(KJV) Genesis 38:13 And it was tolde Tamar, saying, beholde, thy father in lawe goeth vp to Timnah, to shere his sheepe.(Geneva) Genèse 38:13 On en informa Tamar, et on lui dit: Voici ton beau-père qui monte à Thimna, pour tondre ses brebis.(FR) 13 ׃38 וַיֻּגַּ֥ד לְתָמָ֖ר לֵאמֹ֑ר הִנֵּ֥ה חָמִ֛יךְ עֹלֶ֥ה תִמְנָ֖תָה לָגֹ֥ז צֹאנֽוֹ׃ Genesis Gen 38:13 It was told to Tamar, "Behold, your father-in-law is going up to Timnah to shear his sheep."(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:14 ============ Gen 38:14 And she put her widow's garments off from her, and covered her with a vail, and wrapped herself, and sat in an open place, which is by the way to Timnath; for she saw that Shelah was grown, and she was not given unto him to wife.(KJV) Genesis 38:14 Then she put her widowes garments off from her, and couered her with a vaile, and wrapped her selfe, and sate downe in Pethah-enaim, which is by the way to Timnah, because she sawe that Shelah was growen, and she was not giuen vnto him to wife.(Geneva) Genèse 38:14 Alors elle ôta ses habits de veuve, elle se couvrit d'un voile et s'enveloppa, et elle s'assit à l'entrée d'Enaïm, sur le chemin de Thimna; car elle voyait que Schéla était devenu grand, et qu'elle ne lui était point donnée pour femme.(FR) 14 ׃38 וַתָּסַר֩ בִּגְדֵ֨י אַלְמְנוּתָ֜הּ מֵֽעָלֶ֗יהָ וַתְּכַ֤ס בַּצָּעִיף֙ וַתִּתְעַלָּ֔ף וַתֵּ֙שֶׁב֙ בְּפֶ֣תַח עֵינַ֔יִם אֲשֶׁ֖ר עַל־דֶּ֣רֶךְ תִּמְנָ֑תָה כִּ֤י רָאֲתָה֙ כִּֽי־גָדַ֣ל שֵׁלָ֔ה וְהִ֕וא לֹֽא־נִתְּנָ֥ה ל֖וֹ לְאִשָּֽׁה׃ Genesis Gen 38:14 So she removed her widow's garments and covered herself with a veil, and wrapped herself, and sat in the gateway of Enaim, which is on the road to Timnah; for she saw that Shelah had grown up, and she had not been given to him as a wife.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:15 ============ Gen 38:15 When Judah saw her, he thought her to be an harlot; because she had covered her face.(KJV) Genesis 38:15 When Iudah sawe her, he iudged her an whore: for she had couered her face.(Geneva) Genèse 38:15 Juda la vit, et la prit pour une prostituée, parce qu'elle avait couvert son visage.(FR) 15 ׃38 וַיִּרְאֶ֣הָ יְהוּדָ֔ה וֽ͏ַיַּחְשְׁבֶ֖הָ לְזוֹנָ֑ה כִּ֥י כִסְּתָ֖ה פָּנֶֽיהָ׃ Genesis Gen 38:15 When Judah saw her, he thought she was a harlot, for she had covered her face.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:16 ============ Gen 38:16 And he turned unto her by the way, and said, Go to, I pray thee, let me come in unto thee; (for he knew not that she was his daughter in law.) And she said, What wilt thou give me, that thou mayest come in unto me?(KJV) Genesis 38:16 And he turned to the way towardes her, and saide, Come, I pray thee, let me lie with thee. (for he knewe not that she was his daughter in lawe) And she answered, What wilt thou giue me for to lie with me?(Geneva) Genèse 38:16 Il l'aborda sur le chemin, et dit: Laisse-moi aller vers toi. Car il ne connut pas que c'était sa belle-fille. Elle dit: Que me donneras-tu pour venir vers moi?(FR) 16 ׃38 וַיֵּ֨ט אֵלֶ֜יהָ אֶל־הַדֶּ֗רֶךְ וַיֹּ֙אמֶר֙ הָֽבָה־נָּא֙ אָב֣וֹא אֵלַ֔יִךְ כִּ֚י לֹ֣א יָדַ֔ע כִּ֥י כַלָּת֖וֹ הִ֑וא וַתֹּ֙אמֶר֙ מַה־תִּתֶּן־לִּ֔י כִּ֥י תָב֖וֹא אֵלָֽי׃ Genesis Gen 38:16 So he turned aside to her by the road, and said, "Here now, let me come in to you"; for he did not know that she was his daughter-in-law. And she said, "What will you give me, that you may come in to me?"(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:17 ============ Gen 38:17 And he said, I will send thee a kid from the flock. And she said, Wilt thou give me a pledge, till thou send it?(KJV) Genesis 38:17 Then said he, I will sende thee a kid of the goates from the flocke; she said, Well, if thou wilt giue me a pledge, till thou sende it.(Geneva) Genèse 38:17 Il répondit: Je t'enverrai un chevreau de mon troupeau. Elle dit: Me donneras-tu un gage, jusqu'à ce que tu l'envoies?(FR) 17 ׃38 וַיֹּ֕אמֶר אָנֹכִ֛י אֲשַׁלַּ֥ח גְּדִֽי־עִזִּ֖ים מִן־הַצֹּ֑אן וַתֹּ֕אמֶר אִם־תִּתֵּ֥ן עֵרָב֖וֹן עַ֥ד שָׁלְחֶֽךָ׃ Genesis Gen 38:17 He said, therefore, "I will send you a young goat from the flock." She said, moreover, "Will you give a pledge until you send it?"(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:18 ============ Gen 38:18 And he said, What pledge shall I give thee? And she said, Thy signet, and thy bracelets, and thy staff that is in thine hand. And he gave it her, and came in unto her, and she conceived by him.(KJV) Genesis 38:18 Then he saide, What is the pledge that I shall giue thee? And she answered, Thy signet, and thy cloke, and thy staffe that is in thine hande. So he gaue it her, and lay by her, and she was with childe by him.(Geneva) Genèse 38:18 Il répondit: Quel gage te donnerai-je? Elle dit: Ton cachet, ton cordon, et le bâton que tu as à la main. And she said, "Your seal and your cord, and your staff that is in your hand." So he gave them to her and went in to her, and she conceived by him.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:19 ============ Gen 38:19 And she arose, and went away, and laid by her vail from her, and put on the garments of her widowhood.(KJV) Genesis 38:19 Then she rose, and went and put her vaile from her and put on her widowes raiment.(Geneva) Genèse 38:19 Elle se leva, et s'en alla; elle ôta son voile, et remit ses habits de veuve.(FR) 19 ׃38 וַתָּ֣קָם וַתֵּ֔לֶךְ וַתָּ֥סַר צְעִיפָ֖הּ מֵעָלֶ֑יהָ וַתִּלְבַּ֖שׁ בִּגְדֵ֥י אַלְמְנוּתָֽהּ׃ Genesis Gen 38:19 Then she arose and departed, and removed her veil and put on her widow's garments.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:20 ============ Gen 38:20 And Judah sent the kid by the hand of his friend the Adullamite, to receive his pledge from the woman's hand: but he found her not.(KJV) Genesis 38:20 Afterwarde Iudah sent a kid of the goates by the hande of his neighbour the Adullamite, for to receiue his pledge from the womans hand: but he found her not.(Geneva) Genèse 38:20 Juda envoya le chevreau par son ami l'Adullamite, pour retirer le gage des mains de la femme. Mais il ne la trouva point.(FR) 20 ׃38 וַיִּשְׁלַ֨ח יְהוּדָ֜ה אֶת־גְּדִ֣י הָֽעִזִּ֗ים בְּיַד֙ רֵעֵ֣הוּ הָֽעֲדֻלָּמִ֔י לָקַ֥חַת הָעֵרָב֖וֹן מִיַּ֣ד הָאִשָּׁ֑ה וְלֹ֖א מְצָאָֽהּ׃ Genesis Gen 38:20 When Judah sent the young goat by his friend the Adullamite, to receive the pledge from the woman's hand, he did not find her.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:21 ============ Gen 38:21 Then he asked the men of that place, saying, Where is the harlot, that was openly by the way side? And they said, There was no harlot in this place.(KJV) Genesis 38:21 Then asked he the men of that place, saying, Where is ye whore, that sate in Enaim by the way side? And they answered, There was no whore here.(Geneva) Genèse 38:21 Il interrogea les gens du lieu, en disant: Où est cette prostituée qui se tenait à Enaïm, sur le chemin? Ils répondirent: Il n'y a point eu ici de prostituée.(FR) 21 ׃38 וַיִּשְׁאַ֞ל אֶת־אַנְשֵׁ֤י מְקֹמָהּ֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר אַיֵּ֧ה הַקְּדֵשָׁ֛ה הִ֥וא בָעֵינַ֖יִם עַל־הַדָּ֑רֶךְ וַיֹּ֣אמְר֔וּ לֹא־הָיְתָ֥ה בָזֶ֖ה קְדֵשָֽׁה׃ Genesis Gen 38:21 He asked the men of her place, saying, "Where is the temple prostitute who was by the road at Enaim?" But they said, "There has been no temple prostitute here."(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:22 ============ Gen 38:22 And he returned to Judah, and said, I cannot find her; and also the men of the place said, that there was no harlot in this place.(KJV) Genesis 38:22 He came therefore to Iudah againe, and said, I can not finde her, and also the men of the place said, There was no whore there.(Geneva) Genèse 38:22 Il retourna auprès de Juda, et dit: Je ne l'ai pas trouvée, et même les gens du lieu ont dit: Il n'y a point eu ici de prostituée.(FR) 22 ׃38 וַיָּ֙שָׁב֙ אֶל־יְהוּדָ֔ה וַיֹּ֖אמֶר לֹ֣א מְצָאתִ֑יהָ וְגַ֨ם אַנְשֵׁ֤י הַמָּקוֹם֙ אָֽמְר֔וּ לֹא־הָיְתָ֥ה בָזֶ֖ה קְדֵשָֽׁה׃ Genesis Gen 38:22 So he returned to Judah, and said, "I did not find her; and furthermore, the men of the place said, 'There has been no temple prostitute here.'"(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:23 ============ Gen 38:23 And Judah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: behold, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.(KJV) Genesis 38:23 Then Iudah said, Let her take it to her, lest we be shamed: beholde, I sent this kid, and thou hast not found her.(Geneva) Genèse 38:23 Juda dit: Qu'elle garde ce qu'elle a! Ne nous exposons pas au mépris. Voici, j'ai envoyé ce chevreau, et tu ne l'as pas trouvée.(FR) 23 ׃38 וַיֹּ֤אמֶר יְהוּדָה֙ תִּֽקַּֽח־לָ֔הּ פֶּ֖ן נִהְיֶ֣ה לָב֑וּז הִנֵּ֤ה שָׁלַ֙חְתִּי֙ הַגְּדִ֣י הַזֶּ֔ה וְאַתָּ֖ה לֹ֥א מְצָאתָֽהּ׃ Genesis Gen 38:23 Then Judah said, "Let her keep them, otherwise we will become a laughingstock. After all, I sent this young goat, but you did not find her."(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:24 ============ Gen 38:24 And it came to pass about three months after, that it was told Judah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the harlot; and also, behold, she is with child by whoredom. And Judah said, Bring her forth, and let her be burnt.(KJV) Genesis 38:24 Now after three moneths, one tolde Iudah, saying, Tamar thy daughter in law hath played the whore, and lo, with playing the whore, she is great with childe. Then Iudah saide, Bring ye her foorth and let her be burnt.(Geneva) Genèse 38:24 Environ trois mois après, on vint dire à Juda: Tamar, ta belle-fille, s'est prostituée, et même la voilà enceinte à la suite de sa prostitution. And she said, "Please examine and see, whose signet ring and cords and staff are these?"(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:26 ============ Gen 38:26 And Judah acknowledged them, and said, She hath been more righteous than I; because that I gave her not to Shelah my son. And he knew her again no more.(KJV) Genesis 38:26 Then Iudah knewe them, and said, She is more righteous then I: for she hath done it because I gaue her not to Shelah my sonne. And he did not have relations with her again.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:27 ============ Gen 38:27 And it came to pass in the time of her travail, that, behold, twins were in her womb.(KJV) Genesis 38:27 Now, when the time was come that she should be deliuered, beholde, there were twinnes in her wombe.(Geneva) Genèse 38:27 Quand elle fut au moment d'accoucher, voici, il y avait deux jumeaux dans son ventre.(FR) 27 ׃38 וַיְהִ֖י בְּעֵ֣ת לִדְתָּ֑הּ וְהִנֵּ֥ה תְאוֹמִ֖ים בְּבִטְנָֽהּ׃ Genesis Gen 38:27 It came about at the time she was giving birth, that behold, there were twins in her womb.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:28 ============ Gen 38:28 And it came to pass, when she travailed, that the one put out his hand: and the midwife took and bound upon his hand a scarlet thread, saying, This came out first.(KJV) Genesis 38:28 And when she was in trauell, the one put out his hand: and the midwife tooke and bound a red threde about his hand, saying, This is come out first.(Geneva) Genèse 38:28 Et pendant l'accouchement il y en eut un qui présenta la main; la sage-femme la prit, et y attacha un fil cramoisi, en disant: Celui-ci sort le premier.(FR) 28 ׃38 וַיְהִ֥י בְלִדְתָּ֖הּ וַיִּתֶּן־יָ֑ד וַתִּקַּ֣ח הַמְיַלֶּ֗דֶת וַתִּקְשֹׁ֨ר עַל־יָד֤וֹ שָׁנִי֙ לֵאמֹ֔ר זֶ֖ה יָצָ֥א רִאשֹׁנָֽה׃ Genesis Gen 38:28 Moreover, it took place while she was giving birth, one put out a hand, and the midwife took and tied a scarlet thread on his hand, saying, "This one came out first."(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:29 ============ Gen 38:29 And it came to pass, as he drew back his hand, that, behold, his brother came out: and she said, How hast thou broken forth? this breach be upon thee: therefore his name was called Pharez.(KJV) Genesis 38:29 But when he plucked his hand backe againe, loe, his brother came out, and the midwife said, How hast thou broken the breach vpon thee? and his name was called Pharez.(Geneva) Genèse 38:29 Mais il retira la main, et son frère sortit. Then she said, "What a breach you have made for yourself!" So he was named Perez.(nasb) ======= Genesis 38:30 ============ Gen 38:30 And afterward came out his brother, that had the scarlet thread upon his hand: and his name was called Zarah.(kjv) Genesis 38:30 And afterward came out his brother that had the red threde about his hande, and his name was called Zarah.(Geneva) Genèse 38:30 Ensuite sortit son frère, qui avait à la main le fil cramoisi; et on lui donna le nom de Zérach.(FR) 30 ׃38 וְאַחַר֙ יָצָ֣א אָחִ֔יו אֲשֶׁ֥ר עַל־יָד֖וֹ הַשָּׁנִ֑י וַיִּקְרָ֥א שְׁמ֖וֹ זָֽרַח׃ ס Genesis Gen 38:30 Afterward his brother came out who had the scarlet thread on his hand; and he was named Zerah.
