So enjoy yourself." And behold, it too was futility. Also I possessed flocks and herds larger than all who preceded me in Jerusalem. I provided for myself male and female singers and the pleasures of men--many concubines. My wisdom also stood by me. I did not withhold my heart from any pleasure, for my heart was pleased because of all my labor and this was my reward for all my labor. (nasb) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:12 ============ Ecc 2:12 And I turned myself to behold wisdom, and madness, and folly: for what can the man do that cometh after the king? even that which hath been already done.(KJV) Ecclesiastes 2:12 And I turned to beholde wisedome, and madnes and follie: (for who is the man that will come after the King in things, which men nowe haue done?)(Geneva) Ecclésiaste 2:12 Alors j'ai tourné mes regards vers la sagesse, et vers la sottise et la folie. -Car que fera l'homme qui succédera au roi? Ce qu'on a déjà fait.(FR) 12 ׃2 וּפָנִ֤יתִֽי אֲנִי֙ לִרְא֣וֹת חָכְמָ֔ה וְהוֹלֵל֖וֹת וְסִכְל֑וּת כִּ֣י ׀ מֶ֣ה הָאָדָ֗ם שֶׁיָּבוֹא֙ אַחֲרֵ֣י הַמֶּ֔לֶךְ אֵ֥ת אֲשֶׁר־כְּבָ֖ר עָשֽׂוּהוּ׃ Ecclesiastes Ecl 2:12 So I turned to consider wisdom, madness and folly; for what will the man do who will come after the king except what has already been done? And yet I know that one fate befalls them both. (nasb) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:15 ============ Ecc 2:15 Then said I in my heart, As it happeneth to the fool, so it happeneth even to me; and why was I then more wise? Then I said in my heart, that this also is vanity.(KJV) Ecclesiastes 2:15 Then I thought in mine heart, It befalleth vnto me, as it befalleth to ye foole. Why therefore doe I then labour to be more wise? And I sayd in mine heart, that this also is vanitie.(Geneva) Ecclésiaste 2:15 Et j'ai dit en mon coeur: J'aurai le même sort que l'insensé; pourquoi donc ai-je été plus sage? Why then have I been extremely wise?" So I said to myself, "This too is vanity."(nasb) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:16 ============ Ecc 2:16 For there is no remembrance of the wise more than of the fool for ever; seeing that which now is in the days to come shall all be forgotten. And how dieth the wise man? as the fool.(KJV) Ecclesiastes 2:16 For there shalbe no remembrance of the wise, nor of the foole for euer: for that that now is, in the dayes to come shall all be forgotten; howe dyeth the wise man, as doeth the foole?(Geneva) Ecclésiaste 2:16 Car la mémoire du sage n'est pas plus éternelle que celle de l'insensé, puisque déjà les jours qui suivent, tout est oublié. And how the wise man and the fool alike die! (nasb) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:19 ============ Ecc 2:19 And who knoweth whether he shall be a wise man or a fool? yet shall he have rule over all my labour wherein I have laboured, and wherein I have shewed myself wise under the sun. This is also vanity.(KJV) Ecclesiastes 2:19 And who knoweth whether he shalbe wise or foolish? yet shall hee haue rule ouer all my labour, wherein I haue trauailed, and wherein I haue shewed my selfe wise vnder the sunne. C'est encore là une vanité.(FR) 19 ׃2 וּמִ֣י יוֹדֵ֗עַ הֶֽחָכָ֤ם יִהְיֶה֙ א֣וֹ סָכָ֔ל וְיִשְׁלַט֙ בְּכָל־עֲמָלִ֔י שֶֽׁעָמַ֥לְתִּי וְשֶׁחָכַ֖מְתִּי תַּ֣חַת הַשָּׁ֑מֶשׁ גַּם־זֶ֖ה הָֽבֶל׃ Ecclesiastes Ecl 2:19 And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have control over all the fruit of my labor for which I have labored by acting wisely under the sun. This too is vanity. (nasb) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:20 ============ Ecc 2:20 Therefore I went about to cause my heart to despair of all the labour which I took under the sun.(KJV) Ecclesiastes 2:20 Therefore I went about to make mine heart abhorre all the labour, wherein I had trauailed vnder the sunne.(Geneva) Ecclésiaste 2:20 Et j'en suis venu à livrer mon coeur au désespoir, à cause de tout le travail que j'ai fait sous le soleil.(FR) 20 ׃2 וְסַבּ֥וֹתִֽי אֲנִ֖י לְיַאֵ֣שׁ אֶת־לִבִּ֑י עַ֚ל כָּל־הֶ֣עָמָ֔ל שֶׁעָמַ֖לְתִּי תַּ֥חַת הַשָּֽׁמֶשׁ׃ Ecclesiastes Ecl 2:20 Therefore I completely despaired of all the fruit of my labor for which I had labored under the sun. (nasb) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:21 ============ Ecc 2:21 For there is a man whose labour is in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity; yet to a man that hath not laboured therein shall he leave it for his portion. This also is vanity and a great evil.(KJV) Ecclesiastes 2:21 For there is a man whose trauaile is in wisdome, and in knowledge and in equitie: yet to a man that hath not trauailed herein, shal he giue his portion: this also is vanitie and a great griefe.(Geneva) Ecclésiaste 2:21 Car tel homme a travaillé avec sagesse et science et avec succès, et il laisse le produit de son travail à un homme qui ne s'en est point occupé. C'est encore là une vanité et un grand mal.(FR) 21 ׃2 כִּי־יֵ֣שׁ אָדָ֗ם שֶׁעֲמָל֛וֹ בְּחָכְמָ֥ה וּבְדַ֖עַת וּבְכִשְׁר֑וֹן וּלְאָדָ֞ם שֶׁלֹּ֤א עָֽמַל־בּוֹ֙ יִתְּנֶ֣נּוּ חֶלְק֔וֹ גַּם־זֶ֥ה הֶ֖בֶל וְרָעָ֥ה רַבָּֽה׃ Ecclesiastes Ecl 2:21 When there is a man who has labored with wisdom, knowledge and skill, then he gives his legacy to one who has not labored with them. This too is vanity and a great evil. (nasb) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:23 ============ Ecc 2:23 For all his days are sorrows, and his travail grief; yea, his heart taketh not rest in the night. This too is vanity. (nasb) ======= Ecclesiastes 2:24 ============ Ecc 2:24 There is nothing better for a man, than that he should eat and drink, and that he should make his soul enjoy good in his labour. This also is vanity and vexation of spirit.(kjv) Ecclesiastes 2:26 Surely to a man that is good in his sight, God giueth wisdome, and knowledge, and ioy: but to the sinner he giueth paine, to gather, and to heape to giue to him that is good before God: this is also vanitie, and vexation of the spirit.(Geneva) Ecclésiaste 2:26 Car il donne à l'homme qui lui est agréable la sagesse, la science et la joie; mais il donne au pécheur le soin de recueillir et d'amasser, afin de donner à celui qui est agréable à Dieu. C'est encore là une vanité et la poursuite du vent.(FR) 26 ׃2 כִּ֤י לְאָדָם֙ שֶׁטּ֣וֹב לְפָנָ֔יו נָתַ֛ן חָכְמָ֥ה וְדַ֖עַת וְשִׂמְחָ֑ה וְלַחוֹטֶא֩ נָתַ֨ן עִנְיָ֜ן לֶאֱס֣וֹף וְלִכְנ֗וֹס לָתֵת֙ לְטוֹב֙ לִפְנֵ֣י הָֽאֱלֹהִ֔ים גַּם־זֶ֥ה הֶ֖בֶל וּרְע֥וּת רֽוּחַ׃ Ecclesiastes Ecl 2:26 For to a person who is good in His sight He has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, while to the sinner He has given the task of gathering and collecting so that he may give to one who is good in God's sight. This too is vanity and striving after wind.
