Psalm 44


Psalm 44:1 O God, we have heard with our ears, Our fathers have told us The work that You did in their days, In the days of old.
Psalm 44:2 You with Your own hand drove out the nations; Then You planted them; You afflicted the peoples, Then You spread them abroad.
Psalm 44:3 For by their own sword they did not possess the land, And their own arm did not save them, But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence, For You favored them.
Psalm 44:4 You are my King, O God; Command victories for Jacob.
Psalm 44:5 Through You we will push back our adversaries; Through Your name we will trample down those who rise up against us.
Psalm 44:6 For I will not trust in my bow, Nor will my sword save me.
Psalm 44:7 But You have saved us from our adversaries, And You have put to shame those who hate us.
Psalm 44:8 In God we have boasted all day long, And we will give thanks to Your name forever. Selah.
Psalm 44:9 Yet You have rejected us and brought us to dishonor, And do not go out with our armies.
Psalm 44:10 You cause us to turn back from the adversary; And those who hate us have taken spoil for themselves.
Psalm 44:11 You give us as sheep to be eaten And have scattered us among the nations.
Psalm 44:12 You sell Your people cheaply, And have not profited by their sale.
Psalm 44:13 You make us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to those around us.
Psalm 44:14 You make us a byword among the nations, A laughingstock among the peoples.
Psalm 44:15 All day long my dishonor is before me And my humiliation has overwhelmed me,
Psalm 44:16 Because of the voice of him who reproaches and reviles, Because of the presence of the enemy and the avenger.
Psalm 44:17 All this has come upon us, but we have not forgotten You, And we have not dealt falsely with Your covenant.
Psalm 44:18 Our heart has not turned back, And our steps have not deviated from Your way,
Psalm 44:19 Yet You have crushed us in a place of jackals And covered us with the shadow of death.
Psalm 44:20 If we had forgotten the name of our God Or extended our hands to a strange god,
Psalm 44:21 Would not God find this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart.
Psalm 44:22 But for Your sake we are killed all day long; We are considered as sheep to be slaughtered.
Psalm 44:23 Arouse Yourself, why do You sleep, O Lord? Awake, do not reject us forever.
Psalm 44:24 Why do You hide Your face And forget our affliction and our oppression?
Psalm 44:25 For our soul has sunk down into the dust; Our body cleaves to the earth.
Psalm 44:26 Rise up, be our help, And redeem us for the sake of Your lovingkindness.

Psalm 44:1 We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days, in the times of old. Psalm 44:1 O God, we have heard with our ears, Our fathers have told us The work that You did in their days, In the days of old. Psalm 44:1 εἰς τὸ τέλος τοῖς υἱοῖς Κορε εἰς σύνεσιν ψαλμός
Psalm 44:2 How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; how thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out. Psalm 44:2 You with Your own hand drove out the nations; Then You planted them; You afflicted the peoples, Then You spread them abroad. Psalm 44:2 ὁ θεός ἐν τοῖς ὠσὶν ἡμῶν ἠκούσαμεν οἱ πατέρες ἡμῶν ἀνήγγειλαν ἡμῖν ἔργον ὃ εἰργάσω ἐν ταῖς ἡμέραις αὐτῶν ἐν ἡμέραις ἀρχαίαις
Psalm 44:3 For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, neither did their own arm save them: but thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, because thou hadst a favour unto them. Psalm 44:4 Thou art my King, O God: command deliverances for Jacob. Psalm 44:4 You are my King, O God; Command victories for Jacob. Psalm 44:4 οὐ γὰρ ἐν τῇ ῥομφαίᾳ αὐτῶν ἐκληρονόμησαν γῆν καὶ ὁ βραχίων αὐτῶν οὐκ ἔσωσεν αὐτούς ἀλλ᾽ ἡ δεξιά σου καὶ ὁ βραχίων σου καὶ ὁ φωτισμὸς τοῦ προσώπου σου ὅτι εὐδόκησας ἐν αὐτοῖς
Psalm 44:5 Through thee will we push down our enemies: through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. Psalm 44:5 Through You we will push back our adversaries; Through Your name we will trample down those who rise up against us. Psalm 44:9 But thou hast cast off, and put us to shame; and goest not forth with our armies. Psalm 44:9 Yet You have rejected us and brought us to dishonor, And do not go out with our armies. Psalm 44:9 ἐν τῷ θεῷ ἐπαινεσθησόμεθα ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν καὶ ἐν τῷ ὀνόματί σου ἐξομολογησόμεθα εἰς τὸν αἰῶνα διάψαλμα
Psalm 44:10 Thou makest us to turn back from the enemy: and they which hate us spoil for themselves. Psalm 44:10 You cause us to turn back from the adversary; And those who hate us have taken spoil for themselves. Psalm 44:10 νυνὶ δὲ ἀπώσω καὶ κατῄσχυνας ἡμᾶς καὶ οὐκ ἐξελεύσῃ ἐν ταῖς δυνάμεσιν ἡμῶν
Psalm 44:11 Thou hast given us like sheep appointed for meat; and hast scattered us among the heathen. Psalm 44:11 You give us as sheep to be eaten And have scattered us among the nations. Psalm 44:11 ἀπέστρεψας ἡμᾶς εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω παρὰ τοὺς ἐχθροὺς ἡμῶν καὶ οἱ μισοῦντες ἡμᾶς διήρπαζον ἑαυτοῖς
Psalm 44:12 Thou sellest thy people for nought, and dost not increase thy wealth by their price. Psalm 44:12 You sell Your people cheaply, And have not profited by their sale. Psalm 44:12 ἔδωκας ἡμᾶς ὡς πρόβατα βρώσεως καὶ ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν διέσπειρας ἡμᾶς
Psalm 44:13 Thou makest us a reproach to our neighbours, a scorn and a derision to them that are round about us. Psalm 44:13 You make us a reproach to our neighbors, A scoffing and a derision to those around us. Psalm 44:13 ἀπέδου τὸν λαόν σου ἄνευ τιμῆς καὶ οὐκ ἦν πλῆθος ἐν τοῖς ἀλλάγμασιν αὐτῶν
Psalm 44:14 Thou makest us a byword among the heathen, a shaking of the head among the people. Psalm 44:14 You make us a byword among the nations, A laughingstock among the peoples. Psalm 44:14 ἔθου ἡμᾶς ὄνειδος τοῖς γείτοσιν ἡμῶν μυκτηρισμὸν καὶ καταγέλωτα τοῖς κύκλῳ ἡμῶν
Psalm 44:15 My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me, Psalm 44:15 All day long my dishonor is before me And my humiliation has overwhelmed me, Psalm 44:15 ἔθου ἡμᾶς εἰς παραβολὴν ἐν τοῖς ἔθνεσιν κίνησιν κεφαλῆς ἐν τοῖς λαοῖς
Psalm 44:16 For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger. Psalm 44:16 Because of the voice of him who reproaches and reviles, Because of the presence of the enemy and the avenger. Psalm 44:16 ὅλην τὴν ἡμέραν ἡ ἐντροπή μου κατεναντίον μού ἐστιν καὶ ἡ αἰσχύνη τοῦ προσώπου μου ἐκάλυψέν με
Psalm 44:17 All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. Psalm 44:18 Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way; Psalm 44:18 Our heart has not turned back, And our steps have not deviated from Your way, Psalm 44:18 ταῦτα πάντα ἦλθεν ἐφ᾽ ἡμᾶς καὶ οὐκ ἐπελαθόμεθά σου καὶ οὐκ ἠδικήσαμεν ἐν διαθήκῃ σου
Psalm 44:19 Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death. Psalm 44:19 Yet You have crushed us in a place of jackals And covered us with the shadow of death. Psalm 44:19 καὶ οὐκ ἀπέστη εἰς τὰ ὀπίσω ἡ καρδία ἡμῶν καὶ ἐξέκλινας τὰς τρίβους ἡμῶν ἀπὸ τῆς ὁδοῦ σου
Psalm 44:20 If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god; Psalm 44:20 If we had forgotten the name of our God Or extended our hands to a strange god, Psalm 44:20 ὅτι ἐταπείνωσας ἡμᾶς ἐν τόπῳ κακώσεως καὶ ἐπεκάλυψεν ἡμᾶς σκιὰ θανάτου
Psalm 44:21 Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. Psalm 44:21 Would not God find this out? For He knows the secrets of the heart. Psalm 44:21 εἰ ἐπελαθόμεθα τοῦ ὀνόματος τοῦ θεοῦ ἡμῶν καὶ εἰ διεπετάσαμεν χεῖρας ἡμῶν πρὸς θεὸν ἀλλότριον
