From them I also received letters to the brethren, and started off for Damascus in order to bring even those who were there to Jerusalem as prisoners to be punished. He said, Yea.(KJV) Acts 22:27 Then the chiefe captaine came, and sayd to him, Tel me, art thou a Romane? Oui, répondit-il.(FR) וַיָּבֹא שַׂר־הָאֶלֶף וַיֹּאמַר אֵלָיו אֱמָר־לִי הַאֻמְנָם כִּי אֶזְרַח רוֹמִי אָתָּה וַיֹּאמַר כִּדְבָרֶךָ׃ כז Acts Act 22:27 The commander came and said to him, "Tell me, are you a Roman?" And he said, "Yes."(nasb) ======= Acts 22:28 ============ Act 22:28 And the chief captain answered, With a great sum obtained I this freedom. And Paul said, But I was free born.(KJV) Acts 22:28 And the chiefe captaine answered, With a great summe obtained I this freedome. Then Paul sayd, But I was so borne.(Geneva) Actes 22:28 Le tribun reprit: C'est avec beaucoup d'argent que j'ai acquis ce droit de citoyen. Et moi, dit Paul, je l'ai par ma naissance.(FR) וַיַּעַן שַׂר־הָאֶלֶף אָנִי קָנִיתִי לִי זְכוּת אֶזְרָח כָּזֹאת בְּכֶסֶף מָלֵא וַאֲנִי הֵשִׁיב פּוֹלוֹס אֲנִי גַּם־יֻלַּדְתִּי בָהּ׃ כח Acts Act 22:28 The commander answered, "I acquired this citizenship with a large sum of money." And Paul said, "But I was actually born a citizen."(nasb) ======= Acts 22:29 ============ Act 22:29 Then straightway they departed from him which should have examined him: and the chief captain also was afraid, after he knew that he was a Roman, and because he had bound him.(KJV) Acts 22:29 Then straightway they departed from him, which should haue examined him: and the chiefe captaine also was afrayd, after he knewe that hee was a Romane, and that he had bound him.(Geneva) Actes 22:29 Aussitôt ceux qui devaient lui donner la question se retirèrent, et le tribun, voyant que Paul était Romain, fut dans la crainte parce qu'il l'avait fait lier.(FR) וְעַד־מְהֵרָה הִרְפּוּ מִמֶּנוּ הַמְבַקְשִׁים לְעַנּוֹתוֹ וְשַׂר הָאֶלֶף פָּחַד בְּשָׁמְעוֹ כִּי זֶה אֲשֶׁר אֲסָרוֹ אֶזְרַח רוֹמִי הוּא׃ כט Acts Act 22:29 Therefore those who were about to examine him immediately let go of him; and the commander also was afraid when he found out that he was a Roman, and because he had put him in chains. (nasb) ======= Acts 22:30 ============ Act 22:30 On the morrow, because he would have known the certainty wherefore he was accused of the Jews, he loosed him from his bands, and commanded the chief priests and all their council to appear, and brought Paul down, and set him before them.(kjv) Acts 22:30 On the next day, because hee would haue knowen the certaintie wherefore he was accused of the Iewes, he loosed him from his bonds, and commaunded the hie Priests and all their Councill to come together: and he brought Paul, and set him before them.(Geneva) Actes 22:30 Le lendemain, voulant savoir avec certitude de quoi les Juifs l'accusaient, le tribun lui fit ôter ses liens, et donna l'ordre aux principaux sacrificateurs et à tout le sanhédrin de se réunir; puis, faisant descendre Paul, il le plaça au milieu d'eux.(FR) בַּיּוֹם הָאַחֵר נִכְסַף לְבָרֶר־לוֹ אֶת־הַדָּבָר לַאֲמִתּוֹ עַל־מָה יַרְשִׁיעוּ אֹתוֹ הַיְּהוּדִים וַיַּתִּירֵהוּ וַיְצַו לְהִתְאַסֵּף רָאשֵׁי הַכֹּהֲנִים וְכָל־הַסַּנְהֶדְרִין וְהוּא הוֹרִיד אֶת־פּוֹלוֹס וַיַּעֲמִדֵהוּ לִפְנֵיהֶם׃ ל Acts Act 22:30 But on the next day, wishing to know for certain why he had been accused by the Jews, he released him and ordered the chief priests and all the Council to assemble, and brought Paul down and set him before them.
